in this video, we show our stops and sights along the way, driving from Granite Falls, North Carolina, to Siesta Key, Florida. We have many yearly traditions of things we do along the way, and we also did a couple of new things.
It can actually be driven in a day. We drove home from Florida yesterday. We just took our time and made a lot of stops on the way down, because we wanted to make several videos and see several things along the way.
The main reason I got away from carrying too much of it (although we did carry some this trip), is because of the convenience of using cards which rack up the rewards points, and then just pay them with the cash I would have brought. Also, the fear of losing it, because cards are easier to replace, if lost. But since so many places are now starting to charge extra fees, then I guess we'll have to start carrying more of it again.
I luv that drive..our summers were either St. Petersburg, FL to Highlands, NC or to St. Louis. I still go back to Highlands to see those waterfalls on route 64.
Just curious if you have ever been to Highlands around Christmas time, and if they decorate it up really nice? That's one of the places we were considering trying to do a Christmas lights video.
Yes! Its amazing ..all the shops participate and the lamp posts and all are dressed up nice. They do a Christmas parade with Santa Claus@@NCMemoryMakers Its really nice and when I hit that lotto I'm definitely buying a 2nd home there ! lol. My first winter there was'93 the year of the no name storm when NC got snowed in real good, I left back to FL before the heavy snow came though..I'm sure ya'll remember that. They had the National Guard help take supplies to the Hospitals.
@jakethebarber1 Yes, around home we remember that as the "Blizzard of 93", and the "Storm of the Century". I remember it quite well. Thanks for the information!
Derrick and Shawnasi. Brenda and I enjoyed this trip video and we enjoy all your videos. We have watched them all. Haven't been commenting much at all lately. But wanted you to know we still watch. We are doing our best trying to care for our mothers. Please continue to pray for Ruby Brenda's mother and Janet my mother. Their health isn't good. Have a safe trip home. Maybe we will see you Sunday morning. We always watch your church livestream while we are getting ready to go to our church.
We certainly understand, and we will remember them in prayer. Thank you for commenting and touching base. We won't actually be home until tomorrow night, as we are meeting up with some friends tomorrow for lunch in Brunswick, Georgia, after their church service. We will be traveling home tomorrow. Pray for us to have safe travels. We appreciate it.
Enjoyed your video. We live in the upstate of SC. I hate 85 with all that construction. Seems like they are never going to get finished. 26 from Hendersonville to Asheville is almost as bad. Its been years since we've been to Hamricks there in Gaffney. I almost had a panic attack just watching you all drive through Atlanta. I've been enjoying the pictures that you've been posting on Facebook. Hope you have a safe trip back home.
Thank you very much for your kind comment. We are so glad you enjoy our videos. That construction there around Gaffney, has been going on for way too long.
It was so awesome to meet y'all today! My grandma was from Cordele, GA, in South Georgia on I-75. We used to always go through Shelby to go through Gaffney too. We always got a kick out of that water tower too!
We went right through Cordele on the way to Florida last month. Know that area well. It was great to finally get to meet you today, as well. We'll have to get together.
I know that big peach well, an uncle of mine thought we needed to see it up close and personal. We always stop at Strawberry Hill as well. However it is the one off 11 near Chesney SC and is much closer to our home in NC state in the Forest City area! Hamrick's is a favorite shopping place for much of my extended family! Love your Videos, have a Great trip to Florida! PS, we like to hit Atlanta in the early morning hours!
Thank you so much for watching. Yes, Atlanta is much better in the early morning hours. We had a full day, and just managed to get there right at rush hour. We ended up stopping just south of Atlanta for the night. So, it all worked out.
I have to agree with Derrick about Indiana having construction from one end to the other, he referred to it in one of the Minnesota videos!!! Since we live just west of Indianapolis, we seem to always hit Louisville a lot during rush hour as we head home to NC. No fun! I always say I feel better once I cross the Ohio River as it seems to me like the divide between North and South! My Dad was in the Military and was stationed in Fort Knox a couple times so I also have a fondness for that area too. Safe travels to you both ❤️
Hey guys love the vids, the restaurant is called the sundial(, been there many times growing up)unless they changed the name. going north to PA. To visit Fam. When I saw the peach that meant Mom&Dad were doing ALL!! THE roadside stands. Loved every second. Back in the early 80's the peach was just like the real thing fuzzy had the bump at the bottom. God bless stay safe and happy travels. Can't wait until winter vids.
Yes, you are correct, that it is The Sundial. We would love to experience it one time. Glad that this video brought back many memories for you. I remember that peach being there for about as long as I can remember. I also remember the bump at the bottom, and hadn't even noticed it not being there now. Looking forward to Fall and Winter videos. Hopefully, we'll get lots of snow. Planning on going back to St. Augustine around Christmas.
@@chadstansfield9402 Yes, it is called Fort Matanzas, near the Matanzas Inlet. The Matanzas Inlet is one of the prettiest places anywhere. Thanks for watching.
Didn't think Hamricks would be in a vacation video, lol! We have one here in Winston but we don't go to it that often anymore. Loved this road trip video! I remember when I first saw the peach water tower on my way to Covington Georgia about 10 years ago.
Yes, we included Hamrick's because that's a place we always have to stop on the way down. Haven't been to the one in Winston, but the one in Hickory is not that great.
Enjoy your videos as my parents vacationed at Cades Cove and Townsend all through childhood in the 80s. Cool you passed through our area of Warner Robins. (120 gas pumps at Buc-ees). Safe travels and we enjoy your informative and entertaining clips. God Bless.
Thank you for watching, and for your kind comment. Warner Robins was our very first Buc-ees experience (last year), and since then, we have been back through your area 2 more times and stopped. God bless you and yours, as well.
@@NCMemoryMakers Your Christian values shine through your clips. If you pass through take a few minutes and check out our Museum of Aviation about 10 minutes from Buc-ees. Completely Free. Great reviews and content.. makes me want to visit some of your previous destinations. Have a great weekend!
Jaemoor Farms main location is on GA Hwy 365 just north of Lula Ga. It’s a huge place with vineyards and lots of growing produce they sell. I like to go at least once a month and see what new goodies they have.
I'm up just across the NC line near Lake Chatuge. Thank you for the video as usual. When we go on vacation I think we are racing the clock to get there and back and don't stop along the way usually. Some day maybe we will have time to stop and smell the roses along the way.
Awwwww that’s where my husband and I got engaged! Is the Lobster Pot still there? If so, you have got to try the Lobster Duchess! When we got engaged my husband had the restaurant set up a table with a waiter for us on the beach at sunset and proposed to me. He knew that was my favorite restaurant and asked the owners if they would do that. It was sooooooo sweet and memorable. That was in 2004. I am hoping they are still in business.🦞❤
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful story. I'm glad this video brought back a memory for you. Yes, the Lobster Pot is still there. We make a trip down here yearly, so we will have to make it a point to do that and try that the next time. We are having to leave out this morning, because we are going to St. Augustine for the final stretch of the trip. But thank you for sharing.
In fact, there will be another video that will hopefully be up in the next week or so, where we do a walk-through of Siesta Key Village. I think I recorded some of the Lobster Pot from the outside in that one.
Yay!!! So glad it is still there. We have GOT to go back there. The first time we went there this lady to me not to tell anyone about Siesta Key. They wanted to keep it a hidden gem. Well 22 years later, I think the secret is out.😂 Mike and I love watching y’all. You two are just “good people.” If you do go next summer definitely go there and get the Lobster Duchess. It is their specialty and sooooo good. It’s huge! Anyway, y’all be safe and we will be watching for your St. Augustine video. I’m sure it has grown like crazy there too.🏝️☀️🌊
Also, I just thought about this. Have y’all ever been to the Ringling Brother’s museum there? It is spectacular. Something you would never think about them. When I hear Ringling brothers, I always just think about the circus. They have a house there and museum filled with art. It’s like Rockefeller money. You’ve got to go if you’ve never been. Also, another restaurant we loved West Columbia in St. Armand’s Circle. I’m sure you’ve been there, but that is another one of our favorites.
@angietucker316 We actually have never done the museum. We have driven by so many times and talked about it. I know on one of the trips when I was a kid, my mom went to it, but I stayed at the room for some reason. I think my dad didn't want to go. We have always typically done the Sarasota Jungle Gardens, and this time, we mixed it up and went to the Mote Marine Laboratory. Video to come on that. One of the performing show birds at the Jungle Gardens was named Frosty. He is in his 80's and just recently retired from performing. I told Shawnasi that as long as he was still alive and still at the Jungle Gardens, we would go every single trip. Because I remember him from my first trip there back in the 70s. We actually have eaten at St. Armands Circle, at the place right beside of The Columbia... Cha Cha Coconuts. We have eaten at the Columbia Restaurant in St. Augustine.
What did y’all drive to Florida and back? I’m about to drive to Orlando from Raleigh nc next week and have that weird thought that my 2018 Chevy Malibu won’t make it?
I don't know what's going on with your mic, but the audio is horrendous compared to other channels. Anyway, welcome to Florida! Lol, it's been very 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for telling us how bad we sound. Usually, the people who only make one comment on the channel, are usually negative. Not using a microphone. Just talking and letting the camera do its thing. You're the only person who has ever said anything about it. Thanks for the welcome.
@JentleRain Thank you. Not trying to overreact, but we have people all the time to just come by and leave one comment, pointing out something that isn't right. Perhaps we do need to start using microphones, but as of now, we just haven't. As we are still traveling and haven't really had a chance to watch this on our TV yet, we didn't realize it even sounded bad. I realize the part where we were driving through a storm was bad, but I thought the rest of it was okay, at least on my phone. We appreciate your watching, and your welcome to the state.
It is still at Bayfront Park. I actually didn't walk over there to it this time, but I did mention it in our Bayfront Park Review from either last year, or the year before. I think I may have even mentioned some of the controversy surrounding it.
@lindablair919 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TeEER9z3t8I.html There is the link. It was a little tough for me to search for it earlier, as I was driving up a crowded Interstate in Orlando, and my wife was asleep. But the statue should be somewhere near the beginning of this one.
Derrick finally joined the Buc-ee shirt club, way to go. By the way Mcdonalds sells 8 lb bags of ice at most locations usually around $ 1.50 you can get it through the drive thru, I didn't know if you knew or not.
No, you don't "have" to. But that is the route we take, since we're going to the west coast of Florida. If we were going to the east coast, we would have gone a different way. We enjoy going through Atlanta. It is an impressive city.
