Just stumbled on this video as I was researching my upcoming cruise. Great video! One of the best I’ve seen so far. Your easygoing delivery is wonderful.
Thank you so much!!! That means the world to us!!! We are heading out next week on Rotterdam for an 11 night Caribbean cruise. Make sure you come back and visit us again!
We did the same thing in Skagway. There's a great couple from Minnesota that summers there and we rented a Jeep from them and had the best time! Loved being able to pull over and do our own thing wherever we wanted. Emerald Lake was amazing!! Musher's camp is so cool - giggling at "Partners in naps". We had snow on the summit! Brrrrr...
We are leaving for Seattle for our cruise on August 1st, simply can't wait! We have rented a car in Skagway to do exactly what you did in this beautiful video. How long did it take you round trip with all your stops? We have to be back to town for a waterfall excursion by 2:30, I don't want to miss that either! So much to see in such a short time! Thank you in advance for your help!
That’s awesome! We picked up our rental car right at the port when we got off of the ship. It was exactly 8:30 AM. We dropped off the car at 4 pm. Our adventure would have taken less time if we did a few less pullover stops for photos, or a little less time at Caribou Crossing. Since our ship was in port longer, we took our time. Every turn had a new beautiful view that we had to stop and take pictures of! Let us know if you have any other questions! We are happy to help!
Loved this video! Thank you so much for your detailed explanation of the trip as well as tips and ideas for this excursion! We just rented our car for our Late June cruise to Skagway. ❤🏔
I haven't had my channel very long and I just found your channel.. I've watched this video and it was great so I plan to watch more.. My mom and I drove to Skagway from Tennessee and took the ferry to Sitka where I worked on an Allen Marine tours wildlife viewing boat. We lived in my mini van at a marina for the season. We then took the ferry from Skagway to Haines and drove to Anchorage where we lived for two and a half years.. I have worked several places in Alaska in the last 15 years.. including the Premier Alaska Wilderness Express railroad dome car.. If you ever get the chance I highly recommend taking the ferry.. We Road the ferry from Whittier AK to Bellingham Washington. It took almost 7 days and it was amazing.. Good luck with your channel and thanks for sharing your Alaska trip.. 👍👍 PS.. I'm like you Ciara. I research everything.. If you ever want to plan another trip to Alaska I'm very familiar with all parts of Alaska and would love to give you some Alaska travel tips if you ever want me to. I'm not a travel agent or anything and I don't charge for info.. I just enjoy sharing with people.. Happy Travels.. 🧳🎒 Your pictures were beautiful by the way..
Thank you so much for watching and all of the positive feedback! Wow! You have led a fascinating life! I can’t wait to visit your channel and learn more about Alaska! What has been your favorite Alaskan city so far? In every stop we spoke with locals and love learning about life there. It’s so beautiful, and there’s so much wildlife! We both agreed we want to go back one day, and would definitely need to include more land travel. So we would either have to do a land and sea cruise, or a big road trip. Either way, I would love advice when the time comes. Now I know who to reach out to! Again, thank you so much! 💛
Your trip was very beautiful. The clouds and snow on the way up took my breath away. I loved seeing all of the animals and that you got to pet and or slobbers from. Thanks for sharing.
Driving through clouds. Nice! Beautiful views. Oops, forgotten passports. Wow a desert next to snow cap mountains. That’s super cool. My goodness this lake is beautiful 😍. Thanks for sharing.
Driving through the clouds was pretty cool, but it was also a little scary. It was just like driving through really thick fog. You couldn’t see too far ahead of you at some points. The passports was so close to being a massive disaster 😂. The lake was my favorite part! Thank you for the comment and all of your awesome videos! I love visiting your channel!
Denali is on our bucket list too! We will have to go back and do a land NC cruise or just a road trip. We haven’t seen the aurora borealis yet either. Thanks for your comment!
Hey there! My wife and I made that same drive on May 29th. Clear blue skies and sunshine. Bought water and snacks from the jewelry lady. Emerald lake was incredible! We stopped at the Suspension Bridge, also. It was so amazing to do that on our own. Thanks for sharing the day of your adventure!
@@AdventuresFromTexas Hi there. Emerald Lake was NOT thawed - it was amazingly Emerald! The only frozen lake we saw was closer to the US/Canadian border at a much higher elevation. If you're driving from Skagway up to the Yukon, be aware you lose an hour when you cross the Canadian border. Of course you get it back on the return trip. We were sailing northbound on the Grand Princess last year when we made the drive. Happy and safe travels!
Wow... The scenery keeps changing and is all snow... Amazing view and great roadtrip... Beautiful vlog...and then came the desert...it keep changing...Keep vlogging 👍
Oh this makes me want to book another Alaskan cruise!! I wish flights weren’t so expensive because the cruises are so affordable right now! Thanks for sharing, renting a car at ports is a great and economical option!
We got back in okay. The guy at the booth was shocked that they let us into Canada, but he just looked at our IDs and told us it was dangerous to stop and take pictures of the caribou that closely 😬. Then he sent us on our way! 😊
Great video! We (my wife, brother & sister in law) are taking an Alaskan Cruise in July and are are going to be renting a car as well and exploring this area on our own terms. This is VERY helpful. What dates were you in Skagway?
Thanks for the video. I have been researching if this trip is possible for me.We will be in skagway from only 7a to 2p and have always wanted to go to emerald lake, but I'm worried it isn't enough time. I wouldn't need to stop at the desert or the house you visited but may want to do briefly just for pictures. What are your thoughts? Too risky?
It’s definitely doable! Since the desert and house are not that far from Emerald Lake, I think you could stop at the house first, visit Emerald Lake, and if you have enough time, pull off at the desert too. We probably spent the most time at Caribou Crossing. If you skip that, you have plenty of time!
If you have the opportunity to do a Glacier excursion, like Tracy arm fjord or Endicott arm, something like that, definitely do that one! Best excursion available in Alaska! You’re going to have a blast!
Beautiful scenic route!!! We r also planning to rent a car annd do a trip like u did. I have a quick question: what is the restroom situation there? Thanks
We used the restroom before getting off of the ship and then didn’t stop again for a restroom break until Carcross. There was a restroom available at Robinson roadhouse, and then again at Caribou Crossing. There aren’t many options between Skagway and carcross. All restrooms were clean and had running water. They weren’t Porter potties. Thanks for watching!
@@ThereToHereTravels Thank you very much for a detailed reply. Any information on Juneau area . We r renting a car there too. Thank u for you time and help.
@@sandeepsohal4141 sorry, we did not spend that much time in Juneau. That was the same day we spent six hours in Tracy Arm Fjord. When we got back to Juneau, we just did a little walk around the town. I know Mendenhall glacier is a really popular spot there.
We were in port from 7:30 AM to 8 PM. We took our time getting off the ship though and got to our rental car at 9:30 in the morning. We dropped it off at 4:45. We also took a lot of extra time pulling over and taking photos. It can be done quicker.

Emerald Lake is so beautiful. At what point on the highway did you turn around? At Welcome to British Columbia sign? I am just worried about breakdowns in the wilderness. Was there phone signal along the highway? Were there other cars and buses along the highway? I don't find that in your video.
We turned around after Robinson house. That was the furthest point in our trip. The entire drive was a very smooth and wide highway. Although there’s not a lot of traffic, there were definitely plenty of tour, buses, and other drivers along the way. We did not have any cell service because we have a US carrier only for our phones. If we had an international plan that included Canada, I am sure that there would have been service at least near the towns. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!
@@ThereToHereTravels Hi, Great Trip. What car rental agency did you end up using? How far from the ship was the car pickup point? Thanks for the video.
@@chrisboyd8316 we used Drive About Car Rental and the car was very close! In the very beginning, when I turn around and you see a white van over my should in front of a fence, our car was right next to that. Thanks for watching! driveaboutcarrental.business.site/?
It’s 45 minutes in. It’s in the British Columbia portion of Canada, not Yukon. Even though it is named the Yukon suspension bridge. Since most of the things we did was in the Yukon, it would be either a first stop or last stop, if you were trying to accomplish everything else.
We took our time getting off the ship. We were in the car by 9:30 in the morning and back to the port at 4:45. After we dropped off the car, we dropped off our souvenirs on the ship and then went back out into Skagway for a little bit! We hope you have an amazing time!

I have a few questions if you don't mind. We are going to be doing this same trek in early June. We have rented a mini van for our group of 6. Just wondering if there are any spots for rest room breaks? Does the jewelry lady only take Canadian currency? I don't think we are going to go to the museum/petting zoo/dog place. Is there anywhere else to eat? Did y'all go up into Caracross? Thanks so much.
The first bathroom break was Carcross. We didn’t stop at the gas station on the main highway, we pulled into carcross, and used a public restroom there in Carcross Plaza. It’s an hour and a half drive without any stops. We stopped quite a bit so by the time we got there, we definitely had to go. I suggest taking it easy on the coffee that morning lol. The jewelry lady took my US cash. I did not bring any Canadian money. There are places to eat in Carcross. We did not eat during the day though. We really should have gotten something, because by the time we dropped off the car and walked around to the different breweries, we were drinking on an empty stomach. *Theres video proof of that 😂. I had planned on grabbing food from the deli on the ship and packing it in my collapsible lunchbox. But just like I forgot the passports, I forgot the lunch too 😂.
