Thanks for the video, Dan. Soooo glad you wee able to drive and experience this car. A couple of years ago I brought my 997 Turbo in for service and had to leave it there for the weekend while a part was being mailed in. Porsche gave me a Boxster S to my disappointment and I really wanted to HATE it. In fact, It stayed in my garage for over 36 hours. I later decided to give it a chance and WOW!!! What a car!!! It's not even close to being as fast as my Turbo but the fun factor is WAY up there... AND WHAT AN EXHAUST NOTE?!? Sounds so much better!!! The look on your face during that pull was the same as mine. Ha!!

Great video, Dan... Boxsters got a bad and undeserved wrap with the 1st gen... but with the mid engine, hp to weight ratio and awesome handling (and pretty good storage) a couple year old Boxster S is one of the best bangs for the buck sportscars for someone who loves to carve up some curves. Curt and I both have several cars in addition to the couple of 911s that we have and the Porsche keys are the most popular keys in the drawer. They are easy and responsive and the theatre of driving them is addictive. I mean.. dont get me wrong... they certainly aren’t Jags tho.... lol. James

No they won't..i was one of the unlucky one at 73k mine came apart..and the motor was 9000..and I didn't have it..so mine sat in the yard and got shit on by the birds. And now they are way out of my price range..ill buy a vette

Love that body style & flat 6 Porsche Boxter engine sounds amazing. I owned a 2014 Base and should have got the S. Handles awesome in the turns and the PDK has lightning fast shifting. Great video!

Totally different animal than the jaaaaaaaaag. The jag reminds me more or a refined musclecar where the Porsche is more of a sports car feel.

can't be more agreed when you say pdk is probably the best transmission on market. next level of all other dual clutch transmissions out there. once driven you'll be lovin.

Nice review Dan! While I prefer a manual gearbox, have to agree that the PDK is fantastic. Incredibly fast and smooth. Downshifts are sublime!

Yeah it's more fun banging gears but the pdk is better for almost all other reasons.

I had a 2001 Boxster and really loved the handling. It could do a 90 degree corner so fast it would sometimes startle my passengers. Like you come up on a turn and don’t even slow down, and your passengers are like, “what just happened?” And lots of storage with the two trunks. Just don’t put any chocolate in the back trunk. It gets warm sometimes. But the front will fit two or three bags of groceries no problem. More tossable than the f430 for sure due to the lighter weight of the Porsche. But I’ve never probed the limits of the Ferrari, you need a track for that.

The Ferrari is actually only 3000lbs so it's fairly nimble. But it's not as small a wheel base as the Porsche.

I've noticed that smell from a few Porsches. It's pretty faint normally but it's a little stronger on the boxster.

I am certainly biased (981 Boxster S owner here) but it is certainly worth noting that the bang:buck ratio on these is incredibly high. Even with the recent run-up in prices on the used market, prospective buyers are going to have a hard time finding a better value in the 40-50k space. Maintenance on these is also very reasonable -- our BMW X3 service visits are more expensive!

Dual clutch transmissions are the way to go. I prefer the 2.5T as it's noticeably quicker but you can't go wrong with any set up.

I had a '15 Boxster GTS I ordered in '14. I kept it up until Nov '17. Mine was a manual. Man it sounded great!

@@normalguysupercar I loved the sport exhaust turned on. It sounded great under an overpass and I would down shift to hear the pops of the exhaust. Mine was silver with red interior and a red top. :)

Well it depends... The 997 is more a drivers car but the Boxster is more modern and faster. Both are excellent cars so I'm not sure there's a wrong choice.

I have got a Boxster convertible 2013 S , but haven’t yet tried the Sport plus mode , don’t know how it works . Is the car vibration while running on 60m/ph normal ? And while slowing down the gear shifts from 2 to 1 feel like a sound . I absolutely love the car

Had my plans set on possibly buying an F Type S convertible (2015-17 vintage) this winter/spring as and upcoming summer ride. After watching your videos - I'll pass. Seems others have had the same experience owning pre owned F Type S. Maybe time to reconsider the Boxster 981 again? But I guess you alluded to that the Porsche ended up being a money pit as well not sure what to do?

The smell Dan is because of heat from the exhaust acting on the inner wall of the rear tyres.
