When I moved to Phoenix in 1971, we learned city swimming pools were full of warm water and many people. We went to Canyon Lake and got relief from summer heat, cooling off in the clean, refreshing Lake water. Good memories.

back then the whole area was still pretty remote.

@@mcsdog No boat docks or buildings at Canyon or Apache Lake. I remember the boat ramps being dirt and gravel.

@@mcsdog You all did a really great job on the video, the filming, the editing, the cheerful music, choosing the time of day for the lighting, the attention to scenery and landscape that the person did holding the camera, all of it. It's a keeper to enjoy time and again! 😁😍

Why did you turn back at Toritlla Flat? Why didn't you go through to Roosevelt Dam? I will be driving the Apache Trail next month from Apache Junction all the way to Roosevelt Dam. I will keep on going oast where you turned around at Tortilla Flat. I think it turns into dirt, dusty and bumpy roads from there on to Roosevelt. Good for high clearance vehicles, but I have seen some RU-vid videos with very many regular 4 door sedans on the dirty, bumpy and dusty road to Roosevelt Dam. When I get to the Dam, I will make a left and drive up to Flagstaff, AZ.

You can see a number of Apache Trail videos in my large Arizona playlist, where they drive it all the way. The Apache Trail has its own section in the playlist as it's organized in an endeavor to follow the map as best as possible, area by area. You will want to keep abreast of the news to see if the road is open at the time you plan to go. The road from Roosevelt Lake north (188) doesn't go up to Flagstaff, but hooks up with the Beeline (AZ-87) and goes north to Payson. Continuing north there turns into "AZ-260 West" to Pine and Strawberry, then to AZ-87 again that leads to Forest Service Rd 3, also known as Lake Mary Road, leading up to Happy Jack and beyond into Flagstaff. It's been a beautiful route. You can see a fair amount of this journey in my playlist, the videos being in various sections, not together as a whole.
