Come ride along on the amazing Shafer Trail, off road from Canyonlands National Park back to Moab, Utah via Potash Road. Shafer Trail is a hair-raising 4x4 drive that kept us on the edge of our seats the entire way down into the canyon. We drove it in a 2008 Chevy Silverado with three small kids in the back seat.
With steep cliffs, sharp switchbacks, and amazing views, this is one drive that will make you feel glad to be alive.
Thanks for watching! If you like videos that inspire you to get outside and work with tools and machines, check out my channel!
Although I'm driving my pickup truck in this video, I also have a 1978 CJ5 JEEP that you can check out in this video. • 1978 CJ5 Jeep Off Road

Would really like to take this trail in the future. We have alot of recreational land here in missouri because of the Mark Twain national forest. A lot of long beautiful ozark trails. If you ever find yourself and your family this direction you should really check it out.

That sounds awesome. Maybe we'll plan a trip to head out that way next time.

I'm going to goneMoab and have this trail on my schedule. After watching a couple videos, I think I will pass. I do not like drop-offs like that. Yikes! Thanks for posting this.

Awesome scenery! Thank you for sharing your adventures. Kinda curious: Did you have AT tires on that trail?

Good job. Next time, air down your tires. You should drive UP this trail and then drive DOWN nearby LONG CANYON. Chicken Corners and H*ll's Revenge are must do trails in Moab. I would rent a UTV to do H. Revenge and C. Corners or go with a guide. H. Revenge is much more challenging, but fun. I've done it twice with no prior experience and was mostly fine. Just take your time and stay in the tire tracks. H.R. is still very steep. Relatively speaking Shafer is nothing by comparison. Also, don't worry about those big ole cliffs. The fall never kills you. It is the sudden stop at the bottom. Never drive too close to the edge- just under the surface is wet clay aka infamous Moab Red Mud. The locals know all about this. As you said, you can have good brakes but keep sliding. Air down, go slow and have good rubber.

Air down to go up too?

@@ryebread702 Yes. It makes the tire a little softer so you get better traction. Don't overdo it, but letting a little air out will definitely help with your grip. Are you planning to visit Moab? If so, what trails are you considering? Shafer is a pretty easy trail. I ran it in a FWD rental, with snow on the ground and I did not even air down. Other trails like Hell's Revenge require you to pull out all the stops.

@@MOAB-UTCool thanks. Yeah I'll be driving to Moab from Vegas in a couple weeks for hiking and climbing but might do some off-roading too. Thinking of hitting the Shafer on way back. Any recommendations for other easy/moderate trails near Moab?
