In this video we will show you Chamunda Devi Mandir , Baijnath Mandir & Mahakaal Mandir - Himachal Pradesh
Chamunda Devi Mandir :
Shri Chamunda Devi Mandir is also known as Chamunda Nandikeshwar Dham. The temple is popularly known as Chamunda Nandikeshwar Dham among devotees as it is believed to be the home of Lord Shiva and Shakti.
At a distance of 14 km from Dharamshala, 19 km from Palampur, 24 km from McLeod Ganj and 30 km from Kangra, Chamunda Devi Temple is a renowned Hindu Temple located at Padar on the banks of Baner River in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.
This ancient temple dates back to the 16th century. The temple is dedicated to Chamunda Devi, an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The word Chamunda has been derived from two words, Chanda and Munda. As per the mythological legends, goddess Kali killed two notorious demons Chanda and Munda in a fierce battle at this place in ancient time. Hence, the goddess is known and worshipped as Chamunda.
The temple complex is a beautiful spot with scenic views of Dhauladhar, Baner Khad and Dadh. The main shrine is adored by the images of Lord Bhairav and Lord Hanuman on its sides. This place also has a beautiful bathing ghat and a small temple across the bridge joining the ghat. A trek of about 16 km up in the Dhauladhar ranges is the location of original site of ancient Chamunda Temple. The conveyance of Shri Chamunda Ji is corpse, that is why She is called Hearse of Corpse . As per ancient tradition every day one dead body is burnt in great cremation rites of deceased for the salvation of the dead here .
Baijnath Mandir:
Situated on the foothills of the Dhauladhar Ranges on the left bank of the river Binwa lies Baijnath. Originally known as Kiragrama, Baijnath was a frontier post, as far back as the beginning of the 13th century. The name suggests that the village owes its origin to a settlement of Kiras, a war-like tribe from Kashmir.
It is believed that during the Treta Yug, Ravana tried to propitiate Lord Shiva by performing penance at Kailash. When his prayers went unanswered he went to Kurah (believed to be Manimahesh in Chamba Distt.) and started sacrificing his ten heads. Lest he attained Rudra status and became immortal and invincible, the Devas prayed to Lord Shiva to stop Ravana, . At the behest of the Devas, Shiva not only stopped Ravana but also restored his ten heads and hence came to be known as Shri Vaidyanath.
Mahakaal Mandir- Baijnath :
Just 5 kilometers from Baijnath Mandir is another Shiva temple, whose name is Mahakaal Temple. It is believed that the Shivling here appeared from the radiance of Lord Shiva.Another special thing about this temple is that it is considered the center of Aghori sadhaks and Tantra Vidya. It is said that Mahakali also resides here indirectly along with Shiva. Earlier there was a belief that if a dead body was not brought here for cremation, then an effigy of grass was burnt.
It is also believed that when the Saptarishis were on a visit to this area, seven ponds were established. Out of these, four ponds- Brahma Kund, Vishnu Kund, Shiva Kund and Sati Kund are still present in the temple. Three ponds- Lakshmi Kund, Kunti Kund and Surya Kund are outside the temple premises. It is said that the water of Brahma Kund is used for drinking. Mahakal is anointed with the water of Shiv Kund and this water can also be used for bathing. The water of Sati Kund is not used. It is said that at one time 3 queens had committed sati here.
