Great video! I was there on their opening weekend to ride and film the speeders. As I’m typing this I’m watching NCR 6076 pass by 😄🚂💨

If NCR stands for Northern Central Ry, wish I was there to see it too! Ridden those speeders myself a few years back. Told the train crew I was doing video, and they made sure I had the perfect spots on the "train!" Only one other place I've seen a speeder operating-at Cass WV. Thanx for viewing!

@@bullfrog1954 I think they only run speeders on Sundays in the summer months. They told me MPA is looking into getting a GE center cab for excursions.

Glad you like them, but they're really video taken on a tripod making them look like stills. Still, thanx!

Thanks for checking in -- by way of this video! Good to see something new from ya! Really enjoyed seeing those train relics at Muddy Forks. I really liked those intricate etchings on the windows of that one train car. Also... Awesome capture, getting that hot-air balloon on chip :D Hope you and the lady are doing ok! Can't wait for more odyssey action in the future. My virtual wanderlust itch could use a scratchin'! Haha. Be your best bullfrog every day, good sir!

You're quite Welcome-Thank You for riding along! Been studying the Ma & Pa for decades! Made many videos on it, and on the Preservation Society's video page, more of mine are featured than others! When I last rode the line, they made sure I had perfect position for best video! Also got access to spots tourists normally don't! Great to have a little 'fame' there... Been doing the wanderlust thing for many decades, and will continue to as long as health allows. Have had to slow down a bit but I'm still active! Took great Odyssey a couple Sundays back! Now in the process of editing, along with a concert by a local rock band. But, yeah, I'll be out there whenever I can... I really hadn't paid a lot of attention to those window etchings till you pointed them out, but now that you mention it, that is rather interesting! Guess aesthetics mattered more back then than now. And that balloon over the road reminded me of all those eye checkups I've had! Thanx again, and stay safe!

Thank you I Love the Ma & Pa railroad history. You can stop at our family house on Deer Creek Rd we have the Stewartstown Railroad that runs thru our property.

You're Welcome! I've been big on the Ma & Pa since "rediscovering" it in the early 70s, wondering what once ran on that grade I'd see on my drives-then thinking hard remembering in my kid days I actually saw it while it was still there, on family drives from Parkville to Towson. Started buying books and studying as much material on Ma & Pa history as I could from that point on (70s, that is)! Even met Charles Mahan; considered Mr. Ma & Pa of Maryland! You might say I'm big on Ma & Pa! BTW Interesting the Stewartstown runs through your property! Rode the New Freedom Special back in 2016! Posted the video; have a look and see if your property's in it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v048uByycWs.html

Always fun to visit Ma & Pa territory. Thanks for another great vid, Gus. My how Jacksonville has changed. I remember the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The bus from Ridgely dropped us off in front of my mom's gift store across from the Jacksonville Pharmacy where a few years later I was a 15 year old stock boy. The TV was on covering all the events in Dallas that day. Our Jacksonville Boy Scout Troop hiked the Ma & Pa many times. - Paul in Nashville

Thank You very much! I too remember the JFK assassination too-was 9 yrs old in elementary school. I've passed through Jacksonville many times but can't remember if I saw the pharmacy. But-I do remember all that TV coverage! Quite a bit has changed since then...imagine if back then we had all the recording devices we have today! There would be literally millions of videos to sift through from every angle! Would have probably been live-streamed as well on some social platform. All this-instead of just one 8mm movie!! Talk about mind-boggling! Yes, things have changed for sure... P.S. Was a scout myself!! Camped Broad Creek many times!

Another swell video! Great Job, Gus! Yesterday, my Mother & I went to Canton to see the Liberty Ship "John Brown". And it was very interesting. I would ❤ to visit Muddy Creek Forks, PA. Anyway, Happy Labor Day.

Thank You, Danny! Much appreciated! Muddy Creek Forks is great, and the Ma & Pa Preservation Society is advertising my videos on their website! They have others' vids too, but most are mine! I have video posted where they allow me access to places no one else is allowed so viewers can only see them in my videos! I do get an occasional 'exclusive.' Happy Labor Day to you too! Sunday (the 5th)...Dolly's birthday!

Thanks for the ride Gus. I rode on the Ma & Pa back in the late 60's. We left from downtown York in the evening in openside carriages. Mostly what I remember is seeing the backside of the city and getting burned by flying embers.

You rode the Ma & Pa in the late 60s? I thought they stopped running passenger trains in 1954-unless you rode something special. There were some steam excursions around that time. Those flying embers can get you! Got me once while riding the WM out of Cumberland! Went in my eye and it hurt for a while! Fortunately I can still see. Glad you liked the ride!

Check your tires. As we rode it felt like your right front was one pound low. 🤣 Take care
@bullfrog1954
@bullfrog1954 3 года назад
Thanx! I've checked the tires since, but it was the left front that took that pound of air rather than the right! Took a drive to WV last Sunday and all seemed fine. Made another Day Odyssey; will begin editing soon.

I wonder if farmhouses are built to face their (longer) driveway?
@bullfrog1954
@bullfrog1954 3 года назад
I never considered that possibility, but maybe! Apparently it's a semi-common practice, as I've noticed it in MD and PA, and other states as well. The house in the video faces south, so maybe aligned that way to take advantage of the sun's rays in winter to aid in heating.

A lot of these small towns don't have groceries stores ?
@bullfrog1954
@bullfrog1954 2 года назад
Yes, they did. Many stations of short lines contained stores to help income a bit...revenue from train tickets-and profits from the stores! Even if folks didn't need to ride the train-they still needed groceries and dry goods! Convenient for the public-and kept the money coming in! Pretty smart, huh!
