In the Eastern United States we have gray squirrels, fox squirrels, and red squirrels. The red squirrels are very small and not hunted, but the gray and fox squirrels are very popular small game. The gray squirrels are very abundant. The fox squirrels are less common, but are much bigger than the gray squirrels. Squirrels can be hunted by still hunting or stand hunting with .22 rimfire rifles or shotguns, and in the South there is a breed of dog called the mountain cur that is used for squirrel hunting. The dog trees the squirrel so the hunter can shoot it. Squirrels can be fried like chicken or used to make stew, and the meat is very good.
Here in the Midwest U.S. we hunt American Grey and fox squirrels. Very good eating. We hunt by stalking and it is a great way to get young hunters involved. We hunt them with either .22 caliber rifles or small gauge shotguns.
If one wants to be a good stalk or still hunter, then the squirrel woods is a great teacher. Of course there's nothing wrong with finding a tree the squirrels are cutting and posting up for a limit either. The squirrels taste good either way. Good luck and God bless.
I live in the middle of Germany the state is called "Hessen". We have a lot of red squirrels here, we always had them. We dont hunt them, but they eat a lot of singing birds eggs...
We hunt grey squirrel here in the uk, they carry a disease that affect our native red squirrel and it kills them. The grey squirrel can live with the disease. Its also an envasive species.
Yes we have Squirels in our area of upstate New York, they are the Grey Squirrel and the small Red Squirrel, both of which we hunt for the meat, they are good eating.
//Tobias
From Texas in the US. We have MILLIONS of squirrels but they're called Fox & Cat squirrels. Yes, there is a season for them and people eat them. When I'm Whitetail hunting they're always jumping around, making noise and getting into everything.
We don't shoot the red squirrels in Switzerland. They are protected. But in some arears (Southern Switzerland) the getting more an more grey squirrels in from Italy and they we are shooting because they are invasive (came from USA). Normally bad things coming from China - but not those ;-)
//Tobias
Sir how about on your next video you show us the different stance or posture while you wait during driven hunts. The way you position your body and rifle to get the best shot... thanks
;-) //Tobias
Yeah, they are old ;-) It is stones picked to clear fields so farmers could farm the land. They put the stones as dividers between fields and properties. Over the years the fields have been abandon and the forest grown back. //Tobias
Hi, No, I am not crazy... ;-) I got a .375 Ruger for a buffalo hunt in Zimbabwe, it got delayed due to the COVID situation and I just wanted to try it out in some way and I actually like it a lot. With a silencer and comb-raiser, the recoil is not so bad and the bullets deliver a deadly punch to whatever it hits... ;-) //Tobias
Here in Alberta, Canada we have Red Squirrels and I remember my dad having a few hang out in his backyard, they are interesting to watch but I know some people hunt them for the meat
Transplanted Sasky boy living in Alberta. I wouldn't recommend trying our red squirrels unless you enjoy the taste of sinewy spruce resin. You need those fatter southern squirrels to start getting some palatable flavour.
Here in California we do hunt squirrel ... meat is good like chicken but they are the ones in the mountains or forest about 3-4 times the weight of the squirrel you showed
@@RedMooseHunting Thank you Tobias. Unfortunately not available in Czech Republic. It's not that easy to get any solid working radiostation for the hunting purpose for reasonable price.
Tackar! //Tobias
Here in Germany we do have 2 kinds of squirrel the native red squirrel and the American grey squirrel which is invasive and actually revivals our native ones but still we don’t Hunt them as we are Not allowed
//Tobias
Hi, The rifle Oliver and I use is a Steel Action HM with a grade 4 wooden stock. It is a german built rifle that is pretty new on the market. Extremely high quality at an affordable price. www.steel-action.de It is a straight-pull mechanism. //Tobias
MVH Tobias
We are shooting in driven hunts the roe deer with the shoot gun. Max. distance 30/35 meter with about 4 mm shoots / pellets. That works very well. They get killed immediately. We using also dogs (small once) to push out the roe dear to get them in front of a hunter. regards from Switzerland
We can also hunt roe deer with shotgun here in Sweden. It works as you say very well. However, since we have wild boars as well, we often chose a rifle. //Tobias
You guys can hunt with shotguns? That is amazing! I have had the privilege of hunting whitetail deer here in the U.S. using dogs and shotguns with what we call buckshot (approximately the same as 4 mm) and it is truly an amazing experience. My dream is to one day experience a European driven hunt. Absolutely love what y'all do!
@@graydoncarruth5044 Hi, We can use shotguns for roedeer in Sweden and a few other European countries. In Sweden, we can't use shotguns with buck shots for red deer, fallow deer or wild boar. We can use single-barreled shotguns with slugs for wild boar and fallow deer. Hope you can come over some day! ;-) //Tobias
