I own a 2012 Cube SL model fully loaded and Love it. Really comfortable smooth riding compact car with some great luxury car features. The audio system is fantastic and the seats provide the ride of the old Cadillac without the excessive gas expense of the V8 luxury cars. I love the engineering that went into this car its a real unique design with a solid feel to it.
I think you are missing the point of the fridge style door even with a regular hatch you wouldnt be able to open it either parked so close to the pickup. But with the fridge door at least you can stick your arm in and get something without resorting to getting on your knees with a regular hatch.
Because the opening is closer yo the ground vs to the side. Next time you in a vehicle with a conventional hatch back it up against a wall as far as it can go then try to get an item in the vehicle. You can try from the side but since its hinged from the top it will also narrow the opening at the top. The one benefit of having a side opening hatch is that even in a tight confine the narrow opening is even from the top to bottom. Considering most ppl park head in, the point is moot anyway .
I have the same car, It is awesome no problems at all 140 000 miles runs like new. I flush all the fluids, change all filters, changed all spark plugs and spark plug wires. Ceramic brake pads. Go to a great mechanic and have them do a 3 step fuel fuel injection cleaning service. Make sure they use BG products. It gets rid of all carbon build up The car roars now. Also use royal purple engine oil it is better then mobil 1 one oil. It drives like a race car now!!!! Also use Trico Titan wipers they work the best. ALso buy the royal purple oil filter and change serpentine belt every 80 000 miles to be safe.
