I don't see it that way. If Billy didn't have this problem most people wouldn't go through this trouble. It's sad but it's the truth. I still have both of my legs, but I can't imagine how hard it is to look at other people doing the thing you love while you can't do it no matter how much you want to. He has to live these emotions through other people, it's not easy.
@@theasmrguy6399 but billy is going through something so hard, and lewis hamilton is taking time out of his extremely busy life to give this kid support. Obviously nobody would be doing all this for someone who is completely fine and normal. But he's showing his support and really helping this kid cope with his situation. How are you so stupid not to see that?
@@theasmrguy6399 you basically said if billy was normal, people wouldn't go out of their way to spend time with him... The original comment said it was pretty cool that hamilton did this and you said it wasn't 😂
Yeah i hear that.. My cheeks got a little wet somehow when i seen the dad pick him up out of the trailer and into the chair. Makes you think of your own boy and how hard thats gotta be for the both of them..
I think his responses after the crash was from all the years of proper emotional responses his family has taught him to have to handle himself after each loss from the races he's been in. His parents taught him well and basically prepared him for this day or any time something bad happens on how to best handle the situations that come his way.
Would love to see Billy in F1 eventually. Not only would it be historical, its very evident he is nothing even close to a pay driver and prooves his success is nothing but determination and persiverance.
I havent cried for a long time - But this had me in tears - as a leg amputee and a former driver in the danish rotax Championship, i cant even understand how mentally strong you are and how quick you came back. Your will power, will without a doubt get you in formula one. You’re a rolemodel.
Sadly No, i did for a year after the amputation, but often amputees experience phantom pain, and between that and rehabilitation it was just a bit too much. This is why im so amazed with Billy - loosing a part of your body is not easy mentally nor physically - and i remember when they told me that i burned 70% more energy a step, and i only lost one leg - Billy is on another level.
@@minyoutubekanaldk respect i raly cannot understand 100%(I never had such experience) how the will to live can be so strong, respect whatever u might do nowerdays i hope you enjoy life and plese keep in mind that life is a gift and bless you all ;)
Fee Schnieder life is a gift for sure, and even though my quality of life might have gone down, I had my family and friends next to me and that’s a huge motivator to press on, full throttle ahead. But I must say, the willpower that Billy has, I wasnt even close to that, so i’m sure he has incredible people around him to motivate him. And I was lucky enough to start and run a succesful business, not as fun as going 120 km/t a couple of centimeters off the ground, but it’s alright ;-)
During his first race back, just goosebumps all over. I ugly cried a ton. Wishing you success, Billy! You are such a wonderful, extraordinary human being
I like how he said “my life didn’t end then, although it changed, my life kind of started then.” Things happen that we can’t control. I love this story. I also thought it was cute that his dog was trying to be sympathetic by limping too. I don’t like how some people think just because you’re disabled that means you’re unable to live a fulfilling life. A girl named Brooke Ellison became a quadriplegic at 11 years old. She successfully graduated high school and went on to Harvard and graduated with amazing grades. I’m so glad he was able to race again.
@@BrooklynBalla yeah I have disliked stuff by accident and it makes me feel so bad when the person put a lot of work into it and they think I didn't like it.
People who dislike this video disliked it because Lewis is in it and Billy is a huge fan! That’s usually the case. Any F1 video that shows Lewis in a positive light gets disliked. F1 fans are petty like that! Go figure!
As an amputee of 10 years (left leg above the knee) at the age of 64, I find this young man to be an inspiration to anyone in this position. I was very positive in my attitude and was walking again within 6 months due to two wonderful young ladies. But unfortunately I was then under a person who took no notice of things that caused me problems. I persevered for almost 5 years. After a number of bad falls due to poor fitting, that caused me to not be able to support myself standing. I packed up the leg and told them where to stick it. I have been confined to a chair and gopher since then. I am still positive have settled into a comfortable life. I live independently in a seniors village in my own unit. I have a routine where I get out every day on my gopher and travel 25 to 30 Km. I am very independent and enjoy my life. Cheers Mike from Adelaide S.A.
This kid is a warrior. Most of us would've given up on life (i know i probably would've) but not billy. This young mans just gained a new fan in me. Wish him all the very best.
If Douglas Bader can become a WW2 air ace with no legs, flying Spifires and Hurricanes, I reckon this lad is more than capable of achieving his dreams.... go Billy. Good luck young fella.
One of the biggest aces of the entire war, a Stuka pilot, also was an amputee …Hans Ulrich Rudel….point is…we can make a car that is controlled from the wheel, right? Or conversely, a prosthetic good enough to react correctly to foot peddles…I don’t know. The biggest problem is if the car is designed to accommodate him from the steering wheel, would it change his advantage with the other drivers…would FIA accept it? I don’t know. (I’m talking F1 and remember, I’m a new fan so I don’t know all the nuances of the sport)
Billy, at the height of F125 shifter karting 1990-1999, here in America I contested all of the Southern California series having only one leg. I lost my left leg in a helicopter crash. I was working as a Hollywood Stuntman at the time. Of all the formulas I drove, F-Contential, F-Atlantic, it was driving shifters I found to be more brutal and technical to drive smooth and fast. As an amateur driver, I won 11 out of 12 races. as a Pro 3 out of 7. my first full year. After that, I moved to the longer tracks which Myself and my Teammate Gene Sigal dominated. As an amputee, the biggest issue I had was keeping my butt planted in the back of the seat under hard braking. I still had my right leg so I welded the master cylinder onto the right frame rail. As for a throttle Dave Miller at DMC Racing Anaheim, CA fabricated a paddle that covered the backside of my wheel from 9 to 6as if the wheel was a clock. It worked magnificently. Dave does master quality work. Billy, If you want to drive, seriously, that will to do so, can only come from a burning desire within you. As an amateur driver, I used a fold-up trailer and a Honda Accord to pull my kart to each race. 99% of the time I went all by myself. I had nobody to help me unload, set up the Easy-Up or to help me tune. I wanted to compete so bad I was there to learn. My motivation was my driving force. Billy, without the inner fire to succeed and win...to believe in yourself you will become frustrated and quit driving. But think about what you can accomplish with that energy put to good use. If you want to talk I can relate to what you are going through better than most. I am also a motor builder and have built 13 land speed records GP Bikes and contested Moto GP as a builder for John Hopkins. If you need someone to help you make sense out of all you/we are going through and uplift the minds of other handicap individuals who want to race competitively here's my number, Steve Solo 949-391-0229 We can also start a school for handicapped individuals who want to learn how to drive competitively....to pay for our racing. You are lucky to have survived your crash, as was I. Perhaps we were both put on this earth to raise awareness showing amputees can compete and win against able-body people. Call me and let's change the world.!
I have no words man, that was beautiful. Props to you, your family and anyone that came your way and played their role that has helped you becoming the man you are! Take care, and WOT!! God bless!!
Niki Lauda didn't often take time to talk to people, that says a lot about this young man. You're an inspiration, all the best and I would love to see you in F1
Such guts, character and determination to have such a nasty accident and to be back racing again. Such an inspiration to me. Not all super heroes wear capes.
And still with a smile on his face, you're an inspiration my man, you've brought tears to my eyes. I need to be more appreciative, my whole outlook has changed. I cannot thank you enough, thank you...
This isn't a feelgood story, this is an epos of dedication, the true embodiment of a sportsman, but also a story about a down to earth kid and his loving family. And I'm not crying, you are!
vmaik04 your either there because your rich or there because your da’s rich. They don’t give a fuck unless you have money, I love F1 and most of the drivers but you can’t be a driver unless you pay to be one.
Billy, I had bad accident nov1st 21,my son passed in my arms. Multiple surgeries to try save my rt lower leg failed. You give me hope and inspiration. Thank you and bless you sincerely. Larry Conn
Well, there are people that disapprove of dangerous sports like this, especially for minors. You can see many things in this doc. What I see is an example of perseverance, a loving family and playing the cards life has dealt you. Respect!
@@whiteknob7944 His parents didn't force him to race, they allowed him to follow his passion. What would you do, wrap your kids in cotton wool to keep yourself happy while depriving them of an interesting life? They've obviously done a lot right to raise such an inspirational young man. You mate, have no idea.
This kid has a good heart and is wise far beyond his years. When my father was stricken with cancer I eventually became his arms and legs, but he remained, as always, my strength. He will always be my hero.
What an unbelievable story! I wish this young talent the power he needs to come back into the great sport... you have a lot of fans! Don‘t forget this! Many greetings from Germany!
Billy’s like I crashed lost my legs let’s get back to racing. What an amazing attitude and spirit. Go on you billy. Your attitude will make you do amazing things. Found this video on a fluke glad I watched.
I thought the same thing .... how is it possible that a car stopped in the middle of the track is not reported in some fucking way????? I can't believe it😤
there was like 2 or 3 seconds between the carlin car stopping and Billy crashing into it so it all happened in like 4 seconds or so and even in f1 they have like 5 sec delay between the incident and the flag. Amd this happened in a smaller occasion so it was just the unfortunate circumstances that the poor boy lost his legs.
@@adamgungl7454 Omg😵😱🥶🥶 5 seconds delay sound like a huge time. I'm not an F1 expert but if you consider the speed of those cars a delay of a few seconds can mean a disaster..😱. I really hope you are wrong my friend...
@@alexsiliano3978 even if the flags were waved by the Martians. The drivers need to see the flags, and react. Let’s say all that happens in 2 seconds. He would’ve had either Jerome the car away from the crash, potentially causing another bigger crash, or trying to stop the car enough to not meet him. It was an unlucky situation, and was extremely unlucky :/
My respect skyrocketed for Lewis when he started taking photos of him at the ceremonies, when he first got back in a car, when he first got the letter at the hospital. They are amazing guys, both Lewis and Billy
The parents and sister are legends. Like, how lucky could this kid get to have family like this? It’s crazy. I’m not even related to him or know him and I’m proud of him and his family. Like holy crap. Family’s like this only come once very blue moon. This is true family.
I’ve seen Billy on the F1 shows and never knew his story. I’m glad I watched this documentary. He’s an incredible young man and showed such strength. Honestly cannot believe how he took everything in his stride. Great support from his family, motorsport and it’s supporters. To the 15 people who gave this video a thumbs down, you should be ashamed of yourselves
I saw the crash at Donington Park and followed every single part of the story through social media and up until the first race back and I have to say what an inspiration you are to millions of people! Keep that spirit alive and I hope that one day we will see you on the F1 grid ❤️ #BillyWizz
June 24 2019 I met in an accident. A taxi driver did a U-turn and almost end my existence. Even up to this day I don't remember the accident happening at all. I woke up in the hospital feeling a lot of pain and I was trying to figure out if I fell off my bicycle or my motorcycle.when the visiting hours came I later found out what took place while I was heading back home on my motorcycle. I didn't know that three days had past and I can't remember anything that my family members said that I told them, they said that the first day when they came to see me I was saying that I need to pay my rent. I can't believe I could have died and all that was on my mind was to pay my rent which is due on the 25th of each month. I am much better now but my scars are very much visible and I've accepted that I have a few scars but I also have my life still. BILLY MONGER I truly admire your determination, mindset and will power. Your truly inspiring to me and many others. 💪💯👍👌
This popped up on my feed and I am so glad I watched it (big racing fan here). What an absolutely incredible story of an even more incredible young man.
dude i cannot stress enough the amount of times I was impressed by his tone and like the overall way he was handling things...very good mindset at such a early age with do wonders in the long run
For someone of Billys age hes very mature and determined to get bacl ro racing doing what hes loved all his life fair play to him hope he achieves many things going forward
Billy monger.... my lord you are a dead set legend!!! You have touched many people through your story. I love racing but you have it in your spirit. Many more people will have drive to learn through difference by hearing your story. You are an inspiration brother and I sincerely hope to meet you one day
That was such a nice moment seeing niki and monger meeting each over one how lost his legs and one how suffered burns. RIP niki lauda and Get well soon billy glad ur back winning again :)))
This is part of the issue people only see the driver side of Lewis. To use his own words 'the cut throat racer" he becomes when his visor shuts and it's go time. There is a nicer more normal side to Lewis which his friends and family see away from the pressures and expectations of a race weekend, which you get an insight into here
The problem with the world we live in, is that people only see what they wanna see... But when you take the time to actually open your eyes you see the real character within a person...
what an amazing story, the maturity of Billy's outlook, Mr & Mrs Monger, you have done yourself very proud with your son!!! what an inspiration to everyone. Well done Billy, keep up the great work.
Wow, I’m at a loss. This video just came up on my feed. I stopped watching most motor sports around 2016, except for Supercross, motocross and mx gp in Europe. I had no idea about you or your accident Billy. It seems that you are a rare breed young man. With the trauma you sustained, never allowing it to depress you or to deter you from your goals is just amazing. I’ve tried to raise my son to keep striving for his goals as well, no matter what obstacles are put in front of him. After watching this video with him, I see the expression on his face, and I feel he finally sees what overcoming adversity looks like. Thank you for this, your drive has touched another young mans life. Even though you probably would never meet, you have turned on something in my son that nothing can extinguish. God bless you for that.
I can't imagine what losing only one limb could do. Nevermind two legs. I had heard about this story as it happened and instantly connected it to Zanardi's crash at Nurburgring. All the best to him and hope he can continue to race in any circumstance. Kid had and still has talent.
In Australia I had never heard of this story so glad it came on my feed to watch. What an amazing story what an incredible human at such a young age. Being a parent but a kid at heart I feel I could relate to both the parents and billy . I’m still on wow good luck with everything in life champ
I’m 57 and this lad is an inspiration to me, so all you youngsters out there should take a good look at billy and be inspired from this incredible young man. God bless ya mate and I’m a huge fan of yours even before the accident, now I feel even more of a fan. I sincerely hope you reach your goals, if anyone can do it, it’s Billy Monger.
you're my hero Billy. i have a condition called Elhers Danlos Syndrom. its a condition that makes my whole body less strong, so muscles, skin en organs are a lot more weak than 'normal' people and that makes racing karts really hard because my energy level is very low(because of the less power in my muscles). But im racing in Rotax Senior class and i love it. i keep fighting every time i get on track to get better and better. I knew that this documantery was online but never wanted to look at it because i thougt i maybe get emotional. But now i watched it and never skipped a second, and yes i got emotional but jesus man, what a man you are. There is so much spirit in you. It motivates me so much to get everyting out of my, not only on the track, but also in life. There are so much lovely things you can do with a handicap but that doesnt make it less fun. I wanted to say you're a huge inspitration to me as a racer but also as a person, and many others with me. cheers Billy and keep drivin!
Damn YT and their algorithm, it's 3am and my eyes are filled. Sir, we need more stories like yours, a family that comes together in full support of their own, and a young man who didn't give up and go looking for a safe place. Wishing you all the best!!
3:15am on my end I have to bring my son to the kindergarten in 5 hours. But this documentation about him makes me thinking about if I will give him the same support Billy got.
As a father of two myself, I can not put into words how proud he must be. Not a religious person, but I see a gift from God when I see one. Absolutely insane story and amazing man.
well done billy as someone in a wheelchair with spinabifida and stenosis had a laminoctemey c1 to c5 to help with cramps and muscle spasms and pain as well,i lost my right leg above the knee and cant stand up due to weakness in left leg and no balance,i miss walking soooo much im 54 years old and lost my walking ablility at 48 years old ,and lost my leg 4 years ago due to blood clot and sepsis shock, good luck billy and keep walking lad keep going
I broke my back in 90 and got back to walking with calipers and crutches after a couple of years I classed myself as hampered not disabled. Fantastic what you've achieved Billy, with a fantastic family and friends around you. Keep striving.
crying my eyes out right now. played college hockey and due to too many concussions, doctors won’t let me touch the ice anymore. so glad bill got to recover and continue doing what he loves. I will always be involved in hockey, just not in the way I was ever expecting :) life is great and there’s always something to look forward to. even when times seem very hopeless
WOW. After seeing him as a commentator on Channel 4 F1 for the past season and a half I always wondered what his story was. What an Inspiration and what a great little documentary 👍
This family are absolute legends. So strong and so close its a real credit to them. For the parents to raise such grounded and mature kids is a huge credit to them. Wishing the family all the best By the sounds of it iv just cried more watching this than billy has from his accident 😂
I remember watching live as the crash happened. I still cringe at the memory. Idk how many know but the crash played out live on TV. Billy your a hero, an inspiration, a fantastic driver and 1 hell of a human being. Keep on going son, the world is behind you.
Never heard of Billy before seeing him on C4 F1 today. Genuinely the best documemtary I've seen in a long time - this lad needs to be in F1, what a driver
Im not crying.. your crying! sniff An absolute legend. I remember watching Billy racing in 2017. Thought he seemed VERY quick and a really really nice lad too. Then I heard about the crash.. I'm so proud of you Billy and everyone I know is. Youve got so many more fans than you know. Keep shooting for the stars kid.
Who else was smiling, heart racing a bit and a small tear watching him rock that track for the first time since the incident? What an amazing story of perseverance and drive... Gorgeous lad is going places in life and won't fail at anything he seeks out to do
What a wonderful attitude this young lad has had through his ordeal, he took everything in stride without blaming anyone or being bitter. This attitude is taught and learned borough having a strong family bond. Some parents could teach the world how to raise your child to be accepting of the good and bad in life, without blaming the world and losing control of your life from there. I have nothing but respect for this entire family for teaching each other, thru love, to be the best person you can be.
