Actually the last level still remains one if not the most hard level for me ever, beat it scraping the wall at the end with less then 5mm of health. Good times.
I will remember this tutorial for ever... I had a group of 4 friends, each of us could do something different. We gathered one day for a couple hours and we tried over and over again to pass this insane tutorial... at some point we managed to do it, we shouted so loud and jumped everywhere that my bro's father screamed at us to calm down lol, but we didn't care, we were so happy... good old times ;)
Reminds me of the time i couldnt get past mission bomb da base in GTA 3 which opens Staunton Island. I knew my younger cousin had a quicker shot and reflexes than me. When Thanksgiving rolled around that year at my house I gave him $10. We ignored all guests and he beat the mission rather quickly.
Playing games with friends.. passing the controller around.. chatting and enjoying the game together will always be amoung my fav gaming experiences. Good times.
@@RobertHurleyJr which gta game had the mini helicopter mission that made me sterile? It was one of about three games that actually brought me to tears lol Another being level 69 or something on canon fodder with the little car that chucks bombs at you
@@emildoyouwannaliveforever4886 vice city and san andreas. Never got past the vice city one and haven't touched the game since. It took me like 10yrs to finally get past the same Andreas ones and finally beat the game. Beat it a second time a lot quicker after that
Honestly as a 8 year old by himself who only rented this game for a week, I had no chance beating this level. Imagine making the first level the second hardest level in the game.
I had this game for like 3 years and never got past that tutorial. One day a friend and his older brother and I were playing and after like 400 tries, the older brother managed to finish this tutorial, finally unlocking the god damn game for us. Not a single one of the missions after this tutorial was as hard lol. Good times.
@@jorgenambri3192 exactly once you know a few basic manouvers and controls this can be done in under a minute.. it just seems hard at first, this video helped alot
Yeah, i never got past it. 1 it was one of my first games 2 always hit the other cars 3 didn't understand english at that time, so i was like "WTF does reverse mean?!" XD
i remember my brother and i rented this from blockbuster. i was so pissed i couldnt figure it out. my brother was all... let me see it. an hour later we were at blockbuster returning it.
@@lestgo7950 Yeah. But i am more mad that other people take this wrong information. Also, the tutorial is on the fucking menu. I don't get why people don't see it and assume, that the first level is the tutorial. I mean, a tutorial show you how thing work. This first level does not do that. Also back then it was not common to have a tutorial, so why even assume it? I am so annoyed that even big and also older youtuber blow this missinformation arround the interent.
@@lestgo7950 When you recreat the line he is driving no. It's pretty easy. And most will not play it on an emulator. Ok maybe even then is the manual gone, but seriously. It's not like it's something new. People done that also back then. Thats why i am annoyed by it. I am almost telling people it for like 20 years. I thought, by now people would nie. I mean it's a pretty classic game and atleast collectors would also tell this but now. The game got even made fun of for "A morderous hard tutorial" Even its not the tutorial. Sry, by now it's just only dumb by many also so called retro gamer. And it's pretty annoying for me. I can't watch a review without somebody didn't do his homework and telling the truth. So this missinformation even got spread further.... Like a virus. *facepalm*
I had this game when I was a kid, and me and my brother never completed the tutorial during our childhood, despite we tried so hard many times. A few years ago, maybe in my 20’s, I finally did it, I completed the tutorial and I saw the begginig of the game, but I turned the console off, because I felt like I finished the game and I had no interest in the rest of it. I felt myself completed. For me, this tutorial was the whole game itself. Now, I can die in peace.
After giving up on the tutorial back in the day I bought Driver again yesterday in a retro gaming shop and finally passed the tutorial with a bit of help from your video. Lol. Now enjoying the game at 53 years old!
haha yeah, it took us forever to get it done, its a shame, such a crazy obstacle to get thru in order to experience the rest of the game, but thats classic gaming for ya :D
@@TheAeroAvatar I read manuals since i could read. And even before i watched the pictures and ask if i didn't knew something... But whatever. Even older guys seems to not read it. To be 8yo is atleast a valid excuse. XD
It's funny, cuz I just played Darksiders III and they toss you in a boss fight where you need to use a hook shot or she will hurt 70%+ of your health, now that was a bad way to start a game, but, I beat it on second try. This was just a bad tutorial that was kinda pointless, cuz you will do these moves naturally while driving in the levels.
Yeah, I'd say that it's only just aged well though, the gameplay is still excellent. If you like Driver, I'd highly recommend you check out The Italian Job on the PS1 also, it's more of the same
I had an in depth review half finished and the text file went and corrupted for some reason. Then my pc couldn't emulate and use screen recording at the same time so had to just call it off. It's a lot of fun though, I may just point the camera at my TV one day just for a video on it
I actually managed to finish this darn "tutorial" after watching an Episode of Top Gear years later, really unnecessary but found the game to be a hidden gem nevertheless, my only complaint is that it never let me enjoy it earlier. Not the best or worst game in the world but gosh darn it that wasn't a tutorial that was giving a basic Advanced drivers test to a 8 year old to prove they are THE DRIVER. Which I was not at the time. IN CONCLUSION, I rate Driver a Yes out of Maybe.
I have no idea how 6 year old me figured this out nearly 22 years ago. It took me hours upon hours but I finally got it. Then, naturally, I had no idea what to do and would just spend my time driving around, hiding from the police when I’d get caught. That was the game to me. Good memories.
I got this game in 2002 off the bargain bin at gamestop. I hadn't gotten the PS2 yet and wanted something with cars and open world to make up for not being able to play the new gta games. Never got past this first part, got pissed the fuck off and went to get my money back. They said no refunds, so I was stuck with this fucking game. Fast forward 20 years tonight! I find my old playstation and decided to play my old games. Then I find that fucking Driver game in PRISTINE condition as I hadn't touched it in 2 decades. I remembered I had trouble with it as a kid but I'm a 32 year old man now and no way a ps1 game is gonna get the best of me! Fast forward 20 minutes. I'm yelling "WHAT THE FUCK!" as the black guy tells me I can take him grocery shopping for the 10th time. I rage quit and look up this video. I fucking hate this game.
@@a55a55inx I never did, always remembered owning this when I was real young and giving up after like 15 tries, I didn't even understand it was a tutorial.
@@kylro6021 I don't blame you, it was very frustrating. I use the term "tutorial" in this game very loosely, as it didn't really teach you how to do many of the required driving maneuvers
I knew what a slalom was as a kid, but I still couldn't get past this. I don't even think this tutorial really even helps out at all teaching players how to actually play either.
If you’re struggling with sharper turning such as the slalom or 180° like this video, hold L1 as you turn. It increases the turning circle as this is the ‘full lock’ button. Great for last minute handbrake turns into alleyways during cop chases too!
Wow! This brings back memories. The amount of attempts this took me 😅 back when games would give you a substantial challenge! There was no RU-vid back then so you couldn't search for the answers. That 180 I must have tried 1000 times and it got to the point where I wasn't even sure if that was the right move! Still I persisted lol kids have it too easy these days. These games taught us resilience to have a "never give up" attitude.
As a kid I easily beat that phase and loved the game. When I was older, I had a nostalgic kick and wanted to play again.. and I couldn't beat that damn tutorial and was suprised how the hell I beat that as a kid xD
At 9 years old I somehow managed to get past this level. I never beat the game because some of the later levels were pretty hard too. But getting through this was one of my biggest gaming achievements because it took so many tries.
@@jhwhthemerciful wait. What was I thinking? There was no way I was 9. It was more like 12. Because my uncle had given me his old PS1 when he got a PS2 and Driver was one of the games that he gave me with it. But the rest of my story stands. I tried it again as an adult and gave up hahaha
Got the game as a kid when it came out. Tried to pass the tutorial, but didnt know what to do for some of them (especially slalom), and gave up on the game. Then, months later tried to give it another go. Got lucky by getting slalom marked off the list by just screwing around. Was so excited
I beat it over and over just so i could drive around the city for 90 seconds before the demo ended. Id always try explore a little bit further until i had seen all that 90 seconds had to offer. Never played the whole game sadly Loved losing hubcaps and driving through the white picket fences ❤
I remember trying this mission over 20 times, I put down the game and haven’t played it since 2004, I played it again for the first time last Saturday when I found it in a box
Man, I just played this on my PS1 for the first time and while this wasn't too hard I had no idea how to get a few of the tricks counted. I don't know if it was possible to bypass this tutorial or something but I played this on my PC as a kid like close to 20 years ago and there's no way I would've ever passed the tutorial because I'm pretty sure I didn't know how to read yet let alone read english as it's not my native language. I don't know if I ever even got to the missions and just free roamed because I didn't know how to do anything, although I do remember doing some slalom thing with cones on some desert road so I have no idea if that was a part of a mission, in that case I'd be impressed if I managed to pass these things as a 4-5 year old. Guess I'll find out as I get further in the game. EDIT: just started another mission and got a different car, I definitely never touched anything else than the stock car in the game so I guess that answers that.
Don't you think it would have been funnier to fail at the end and hear that sweet voiceover about needing a ride to the grocery store?!?! Why is every video about this seemingly a perfect run?
Lol I remember when I was a kid I bought Driver 1 used at GameStop after playing Driver 2 for years. I was ecstatic to play the first game in the series. Never got past this initial test and I don't think I've tried playing it since.
I don't want to sound elitist, but I keep seeing people saying it was insanely hard. Maybe because I had over 2000 hours in Gran Turismo 1 this looked a piece of cake for me
Yeah a lot of these tricks are pretty common racing game techniques that other games teach you. If you know how to do them already it makes this way easier. The real difficulty comes from doing it all in 90 seconds or less in a cramped space
When I was a kid, I knew what slalom meant but I would have been stuck as well as I wouldn't have known what kind of slalom the developers expected me to perform.
After being stuck for months, I had to use the mode where it shows you the moves, write the buttons pressed, and how long they were pressed for. Got through the game and never beat the presidents run.
