Shout out to the CSX crew for helping that man with his bicycle. You could see he was older and struggling to get it over the tracks. Props to them for being kind and helping someone.
Drivers in La Grange are going to keep it up until someone gets hit! I wonder if it’d help to have a RR officer patrolling the rails when a train comes through. Maybe catching a few will slow it down at least.
@@Rjbaker83 Even the First/Main intersection is pretty basic. Just a standard crossbuck and gate, and no ped signals in a heavy foot traffic area. Whole town needs an upgrade with the warning systems, or they might not do it in case they're going to reconfigure the tracks.
What gets me is that crossings have to have either quad gates or two gates with curbs in the middle of the road out so far from the crossing to be eligible for a quiet zone but those crossings in La Grange closer to the museum are not signaled. I don't know how they allowed a quiet zone for those crossings.
Whatever one's political beliefs are, I think we can agree KY does things on the cheap. I agree upgrades need to happen, but I don't think the City or State has or wants to put more money into this when it's more convenient to blame novice, and some impatient, drivers.

I'm waiting for the day someone gets seriously injured or killed in La Grange. And not even at the fault of the train crew but the stupidity of the person being so darn impatient. I feel for the train crews that have to go through these instances at no fault of their own and what this has to do to their mental health. A guy I spoke with that used to be an engineer for CSX years ago said he had been through his share of incidents like this and one unfortunate suicide. He said that he saw it coming at the last minute and that there's that terrifying feeling of helplessness knowing there was nothing he could do even throwing the train into emergency and how he sees that incident all these years after he retired. Breaks my heart.
With all due respect, I went to LaGrange last year for the first time, and it is a confusing configuration with buildings and cars parked on the curb where it creates a lot of blind spots. I can see how a novice to the area could get disoriented quickly. If they had the taxpayer base in that area, the city and CSX would have rerouted or significantly upgraded the trackside warnings (they don't even have ped gates at any crossing) years ago. But that's a whole other conversation.

I've always dreamed of owning a private car. I can't imagine the price tag of refurbishing one let alone customizing one. What a way to travel. What is it with La Grange? My fear is that someone there will become a Darwin Award winner. Great Grab Bag as always VR!
Owning and even maintaining a passenger car like in a museum or tourist railroad can be rather involved and expensive but if you run on Amtrak the mechanical and safety requirements are staggering. Add in the insurance, maintenance, etc and then the operating costs and it is not for the faint of heart, or light of pocket book!
Y'know...I dread the day that finally one of these has a cutaway saying...*they didnt make it*...either a fool pullling in front of a train, or someone climbing thru a stopped cut of cars...
La Grange must have the most entitled, impatient drivers in America.. The crossings need CCTV to get the licence plates of these cars so fines can be issued

Lagrange needs an overpass to help reduce the traffic in downtown and the desperation by some to get across the tracks. However, I’m sure some in the business district wouldn’t support it.
Hopefully this isn't a dumb question, but I think I understand that mid/tail end DPUs have to be newer engines with computer screens, but on a train without mid/tail end DPUS, and there's, say, 6 engines at the head end, are the 2nd-6th engines serving essentially the same DPU function, controlled by the lead engine, all between cable hookups between the engines? On the newer engines capable of mid/tail end DPUs, I assume communication with the lead engine is via radio, and I'm wondering if the overall train length (or obstructions) ever interferes with reception by the DPUs. 20:15 What is it with these drivers? If they aren't getting rammed by trains for driving up the street, then they are crossing the tracks inches in front of approaching locomotives. This has to be the worst place in the world for engineers. "You can't fix stoopid." By the way, i have used stoopid so often, my computer doesn't even spell check it anymore. LOL
Last line is "Weights & Measures"; 2nd line looks like Department of Transportation; can't make out line 1. Some kind of scale test car is my guess, but whose is unclear.
some of those are geometry cars, which use lasers to check the tracks for imperfections. A prime example of a geometry inspector is an old box car CSX has called the "DO NOT HUMP" car.
20:14 are reckless drivers a new thing or is it a sign of the times, the de evolution of Americans? Now that I looked up the area and it is Illinois that makes sense.. I moved recently to eastern Iowa and the drivers here are some of the worst, impatient and inconsiderate.. don't be fooled by the hype about Iowa Nice, it fails to apply to when they are driving.
