One of the things I always loved about the story is that instead of following the cliche of keeping his powers a secret, Tanner actually tells people immediately that he can shift and help police find Jericho, and he actually convinces his partner that he has powers. That makes their chemistry pretty fun. Another fun thing is that the first times he shifts Tanner doesn't know how to react when he has a passenger in the car. But as the game progresses he starts to play along and even get smug with the people he drives around.

Lets noto forget when passengers start asking Tanner what he's doing, and why he's just laying there, adding to the reveal for Tanner of him being in a coma. It's more we get to see him find out what we already know, which is cool

The part that I could never get over is the fact that this was the only open world driving game with real AVERAGE everyday cars that you could just mess around in or relax and vibe with. I mean name any other game where you can roll around in a 1999 chevy blazer, GMC 1500 truck, GMC kodiak ambulance, Cadillac DTS, Dodge grand caravan, Basic Ford f150 and crown vics, Ford superduty, and even lincoln town car. All stuff you saw on the road EVERY where and now can be driven in game. That I love.

That is true, that moment where i first realize that i can drive these commuter cars and just hoon them around the street, i knew from the get go that it'll be a memorable game for me. I know there's Gran Turismo and City Car Driving but since when these games allow you to do stunts with them on real streets, detailed visual damage and all.

I feel like the main reason they won't make a sequel is because they just don't know where to go with it. The game is a totally different vibe compared to past titles. Would they use the same mechanics such as "Shift" but in a different city? Would Jericho still be the main bad guy? Would the story and dialogue still be as goofy and lighthearted? I feel like the studios just aren't confident that they can pull it off and I can't blame them

To this day, this is the only racing game I can say has an actual good story. Sure, NFS had a few really scummy villains, but san francisco genuinely had me anxious and excited for where the story would go next.
@fessin555

I love that this story has so many threads. One is the fact that Jericho can be considered the embodiment of death that came for Tanner during his coma (which makes sense, after all, a coma is a state between life and death). This game seriously proved that a racing game can have a good and strong, interesting story with deep themes.

A lot of games have licensing issues with the music when rereleasing them, this game has fully branded cars, I imagine the licensing to rerelease this game would be an absolute nightmare if not impossible, car companies would want their recent cars being portrayed, not outdated ones. Then you might as well just make a sequel instead, but for some reason they don’t wanna do that. To be clear I’m 100% with you, I want this game back, luckily I can still play it on ps3

For the traffic, each chapter has its own "pool" of select traffic vehicles. Or at least on PC. On console I think it just picks one of the pools randomly on game start. It'd be nice to have more diverse traffic and have more variation instead of a pool of a couple specific models, which we tried looking through in PC modding, but I don't think it's even possible.

This game is easily one of the most underrated 7th generation titles. It’s great to drive around the huge map, completing little tasks and such to go even further through San Francisco, and the Shift feature is very original, too. It was a great return to the roots for the franchise - except Ubisoft barely uses it nowadays and the fact it’s delisted digitally. Glad to own the Xbox 360 version, and I’m surprised why I missed out on a fun racing game until two years ago. I don’t have any opinions on the Wii version because I’ve never played it.

I think San Francisco has the best driving physics in the whole series. The cars felt slightly more weighty and would kick out in the corners a lot more compared to the previous games but I think that was a good choice considering these games are supposed to be homages to those classic tail out movie car chases. But hey that’s just my opinion

Although I'm bias, Driver had, has the best driving physics bar none, and the damage physics don't even compare to anything else you can buy out there. I have replayed the story 0ver 30 times easily and have become one of the fastest players in the world on nearly all the movie missions and racing tracks and time trials. Driver SF's driving physics leave any previous, current and most likely future open world physics for dead, it's not even a competition for me.

This is one of my favourite casual driving games of all time. Driving was just realistic enough while still allowing you to hoon around, without stupid mechanics like tap brake to drift, the dialogue and story was bad enough to be genuinely funny, and I liked the overall film grain look and the missions, it was fun the kinds of things you could do with the cars. I also liked the fact that it felt like it wasn't taking itself seriously. I had high hopes for The Crew because of this game, but both 1 and 2 left me feeling cold compared to this. Not even the driving is as fun. Cars feel like they're on rails all the time, and even the driver (no pun intended) animations are worse on the new games.

Ubisoft could 100% make a new Driver. They're afraid of making them because next-gen games are so expensive but they're only thinking of the AAA market. Make a Driver game that looks like a comic book from the 70s or 80s, live action cutscenes with the cheese to the max, tweak a driving engine to be heavy on the corners and bam, you got yourself a framework for a 30$ game that cost 10% of a AAA release.

This game is a masterpiece. Incredible attention to detail is something that comes to mind after enjoying fun gameplay. This game has more recorded dialogue than Mass Effect 2! Every single time you switch to a car with a passenger - they have dialogue, but not one, multiple version, so you wouldn't hear the same one. And they react to your every move - crash, drift, gain police attention, lose it, jump, whatever - they will comment in a witty one liner manner. There are even easter eggs hidden in those lines, and most players would never hear them - characters are "type casted" into particular car, so Mexican mechanic would be driving old pick-up truck, and rich Arab will drive a sportscar. So many dialogue, it's insane. And it's not quantity over quality - it's genuinely funny and memorable

No This game is being unique in every single aspect, from a story perspective, and gameplay seriously Shift feature is like a Shadow Of Mordor / War nemesis feature of racing games, being unique in every single way especially it is supported by the whole story of the game itself where you literally play in the head of Tanner's coma situation at this point he can release his soul possess many people in San Francisco Not to mention this is a few racing games that has the best cockpit camera perspective, you got full animation movement, from 360 steering, changing gear, even details like pressing the horn and the driver being reacted to the crash, only two games for me that has the best Cockpit view in terms of animations which is Driveclub and this game

As a massive Driver fan, I remember picking this up for the 360 when it was new. I played the first two games, I tried to play the busted mess that is Driv3r, I played the hell out of Parallel Lines, so I was excited for this. Overall, I thought it was pretty good, but I did have some gripes: 1. I don't like how slippery the cars feel. I felt like I was constantly on ice whenever I turned. 2. Most of the side missions range between mediocre and just flat out awful. I could live with all this if they weren't all mandatory to just beat the story mode, which is a shame because the story missions are genuinely great. Look at those last few missions with Tanner waking up and then just hurling cars at Jericho with his Jedi mind powers. 3. Something I discovered only after beating the game: There's no New Game+. I can't just go back and replay whatever missions I want. If NG+ was actually in the game, I'd definitely think more highly of the game. So yeah, I could probably get used to the slidey vehicles, but because of the lack of a NG+, I don't feel like I can go back and do those awful side missions again.

Honourable mention to the designers who modeled the interiors of ALL the vehicles in the game, including the vintage vehicles which were up to 60 years old at the time of release! The licenced music soundtrack was also quite nice! I wish they remastered the game with more diverse traffic (system limitations prevented from having all models in the traffic spawn), increasing the draw distance and why not throw in a day/night cycle?

I hardly doubt reflections don't want to make a new one and ubisoft is just holding them hostage. That's, how it usually goes, between developers and publishers. They sell themselves to them, to be able, to make a game and then aren't allowed, to make a new one. Also goobishit are shitheads, since the game got taken down most likely, because of licenses running out. Not keeping a game up in storefronts, because of greed is a very scummy thing. But apart from that, I consider Driver 1 and SF, to be the best racing games ever.

Well, at least it was better than Parallel Lines and 76 (from what i remember. I havent played SF in over a decade.....but yeah, i beat it). But honestly, i dont think this surpassed the first 3 Driver games......yeah, even Driver 3 with its beyond broken on foot gameplay. But hey, one thing Reflections knew NOT to do in SF was exactly that: On foot gameplay. Driver 2 had weird movement and Driver 3 was, again, broken. Parallel Lines worked way better but that was more a GTA wanna-be than a proper Driver. And 76 wasnt even by Reflections so.....oh well... I dont know how the Wii version is (yeah, its also Driver SF but supposedly its a different game) but its still safe to say that PS3/360 Driver SF is, at least, a nice attempt to return to their Driver roots.

One of my favourite games ever! It's the BETTER GTA. I never understood why it was removed from sale, I guess it's because the songs' licenses expired (while featured car brands are common brands in videogames, their licenses shouldn't be as problematic as songs'). I downloaded an abandonware copy from SteamUnlocked (since copies reached crazy prices) and I still play it to this date! I'm even making a stunts compilation which I'll upload on RU-vid. My second favourite game ever, after Asphalt 9 Legends. This game needs to return on sale, or Reflections should reform and separate from Ubisoft, or even better: sell the Driver firm to some better company than Ubisoft! This series shouldn't be forgotten

DSF and MCLA are the best arcade driving games of all-time. I guess i could put a classic NFS and Forza Horizon on there too. And shoutout to Driveclub for still having the best graphics and being bold enough to include bikes. Only in today's gloomy state of the racing genre can we really appreciate how excellent and diverse it used to be. Now, all there quite literally is are Forza, GT, NFS, F1 and The Crew. Mostly always-online DRM too

I've had a driver San Francisco disk for the XBOX 360 for a long time. But if your in the UK your in luck because the game costs about £10 in CEX. and if it isn't in your local shop delivery isn't expensive.

No way! I've been playing this lately too! Such a shame you have to go through TOTALLY LEGITIMATE ways to get it these days which some may be put off by (don't be). But I don't feel too bad as I've bought plenty from them, and had it on 360 in the day.

I might be the minority but the original driver and driver 2 are far superior. The difficulty I feel was what really identified you, the protagonist. You are a DRIVER. Skilled, fast, expert. The time limits and ramping difficulty really pushed that agenda. I get why many might not like it, I for one, miss hard arcade racers. On another note, you should do one of these on “The Italian Job” for the PS1. It’s a driver knock off based on the Italian job movie

Anyone who likes the idea of a Driver show, check out Life on Mars - here's the US version's opening titles ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NjPNWPqUPRE.html&ab_channel=TVThemes ). Brilliant concept which I think Driver SF was inspired by, many episodes have trippy elements - enjoy! ;)

I love this game as a kid. Damn I have so many great memories of the whole franchise, even Driv3r 🥺 I got a unsealed PC copy next to me & yeah, I‘m tempted now. I got the Collectors Edition with the Car model at home, but it was the Xbox version, which I cannot play anymore, because I don‘t have a Xbox anymore. But my sealed PC version feels like a relic now xD Thanks for this video 🍀 Now let‘s start a petition to bring them back from supporting. It‘s time for a second installment. Jericho‘s been planning alot over the years

See, my hopes for the series has been that they would either remake Driver and optimize and modernize the game based on the complaints it originally received while keeping it true to the legacy or remastering Driver SF by enhancing the models and textures to be closer to the cutscene quality giving that game a new lease on life. If EA can relicense everything to port NFS Hot Pursuit 2011 to newer consoles, what's stopping Ubisoft? Also, as a support studio, Reflections has been responsible as the lead dev on the vehicle mechanics and open world aspects of every Watch Dogs game (including building San Francisco a second time for WD2) and some of the newer Ghost Recon titles. Edit: I should also add that Reflections work on Watch Dogs world and vehicles also explains why they saw fit to make an Uber parody in WD2 that acts as a mini game of sorts called "Driver: San Francisco" where characters even have conversations similar to the game the mode is named after. Clearly someone at Ubisoft has love for the title.

After the release of Driver SF, the lead desginer and creative director left Ubisoft Reflection, then the development of the game's sequel was eventually scrapped and became Watch Dogs. Then Ubisoft Reflection were downsized from lead development studios into support studio for various Ubisoft games since.

I was lucky enough to snag a PS3 copy for 10usd at GameStop like 7 years ago. I had never heard of it so went in blind and had an amazing time. Only learned it had been delisted and it was almost impossible to get a digital copy. The only thing I can think of that I don’t like about it is the fact that the Skyline GTR is left hand drive despite it saying RHD in the name but then again The Crew Motorfest has that same problem

SF trying to be silly and funny and Tanner not being Madsen/Jericho being a Wilson Fisk hulking dude rip off and not quiet Mickey Rourke, was very distracting to me. I never consider it a real “Driver” title. Driving was a blast tho, so thank goodness for that.

I miss driver but even if ubisoft bought a lot of reflections developers. I feel like their passion is gone and they've been relegated to a ubisoft support studio with no unique vision. If they did bring driver back... i don't think it'll be the same. Not a fan that they used real manufacturers though. Just means it'll be more costly to keep to keep renewing the licence Driver san Francisco seems like it forgotten its identity. It got rid of the overly dramatic movie style car handling, tanner has been tranformed into a generic protagonist, no sense of seriousness. Just isn't the same game imo

Your video helped me realize why I couldn't get into this game for all these years. Its main gimmick and main plot twist destroy any trace of sense of belonging to the world. Nothing is real, nothing is yours, nothing to anchor yourself to, and thus no immersion. And it's a damn shame cause the physics is very fun and the world is quite cool.

Say what you want, I LOVED parallel lines! I absolutely claim that as an incredible game. Driv3r may be not as good but man i loved it! Never played driver 2 but driver was awesome when i was a kid! San Francisco was great and such a creative game at the time and didnt get the love it deserved

finding out reflections worked on the crew 1 finally explains why that game was so good and the sequels are so mid. leave it to a company like ubisoft to buy a legendary driving game developer and then make them stop developing driving games.

Driver: San Francisco Remastered would be best thing that could ever happen along with restoring the online feature. I remember how much I played this on my PS3 until I lost the disc one day. it hooked me for days so much so the loading screen and the UI sound effects and design are engraved into my mind

I had interest in this game until the moment I saw that it had this "possesing"mechanic. The reason why I always loved Driver was that feeling of a 70's action movie, but DSF cut that immersion for me; it's sad because the driving mechanic seems good
