I remember playing the PC version as a kid and I had the controls mapped a bit different, so for me I would press the 'Shift' key and the cops would suddenly turn on their lights even when stationary or right behind a cop. I guess it's because doing a hand break triggers the Police A.I thinking your leaving tire marks on pavement.
That's the flawed PC version's fault. On PS1 police will definitely give you a chase after running a red light or driving on wrong side of the road/sidewalk etc. I think you can also press a handbrake without alerting them. Pressing O and doing a burnout will, so it's the opposite on PC. I've always found the PC version to be much worse. I believe it was developed by another team on different engine and it really shows. Driving is worse on PC as cars don't feel as "weighty" and they also look like crap. They have the most low res textures I've ever seen on PC game and every car is like plastered with that weird "reflection like" effect. It looks terrible especially at night. Same goes for environment. Even grass is greener on PS1, like literally. There are 2 solid reasons to pick a PC version tho: one is an additional game mode where your car has infinite mass enabled and you plow through traffic for points. It also works as a cheat for free ride. The other one is ability to pick different cars after completing the storyline/enabling cheats. Other than that PS1 version is superior in my humble opinion.
In gta you feel like whatever around cops but in driver its genuinely horrifying to be next to a cop. You feel like you would in real life, like you could be caught on anything in a second, you get all cautious 😂
Damn lol reading your comment reminds me when I played this game as a kid. Back then I used to be scared of the cops because they would literally chase and hunt you down like angry wasps
Maybe it's just the version of the game you have. When I played they'd chase you for running red lights (there's radio chatter for it, "Suspect has run a red!," that also increases the felony bar). I think they'd chase you if you drove on the wrong side of the road, too. Everything else is accurate. Fun fact is that there's unused dispatcher audio you can easily find in the PC version. There's also 2 slightly different sirens. If you're on Discord, I can send you stuff for it if you're interested. In any case, you certainly do good work.
You're right, I think that when Thekillergreece thought he was running red light at 6:49 by turning right, in fact he did it legally because he had a green light for his direction. I also remeber from my childhood that running a red light in Driver was a violation. And I think that driving on the wrong side of the 2-lane road was legal (as shown at 6:53), but if you did that on a 4-lane road, it was a violation. But maybe you're right, and it's depending on the version of the game.
I Always wanted to know how players can avoid police in driver, so in general you don't need to fake being a common vehicle on the street, just don't crash and don't run above 60 mph close to them(and don't press Spacebar from some mysterious reason)
