It's wonderful that a relic like this, over a century old, runs on modern electrified track. I thought it was a train that could only run on older track. Even the sound of the train horn warning that it is arriving at stations or grade crossings is funny.

They had K183 and the Tait doing this run this year. I wonder why? Must've put some stress on the Tait to drag along the locomotive behind it. And I commented to the staff that the Eltham -> Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen -> Hurstbridge sections must be the closest thing we have today to riding a train along the Warburton line. Snaking through bushland and fields, very scenic.👌

I know im a bit late, but how does the train depart from hurstbridge? Is there just another loco on the end? (if so which one) Or do you somehow run the loco around? (Also love these videos its so great to see it from this angle)

interesting sleepers at 37:40. similar to sleepers ive seen on french high speed tracks. is there a tunnel or sewer or water main or something beneath them? of course i see the tunnel on the line ahead so its unlikely to be a road beneath.
@driver667
@driver667 8 месяцев назад
I don't think there is anything beneath them. They have been there for decades. I think they are what was the flavour of the time as far as sleepers for this situation. 👍😀
@vsvnrg3263
@vsvnrg3263 8 месяцев назад
@@driver667 , so these sleepers may be a trial. just like theyre doing trials with recycled plastic sleepers. or just like the trial with concrete sleepers done back in the 30's or 40's. they were trialled at caulfield. dad and his fellow driver friends told me about them in the late 70's, and they couldnt understand why they werent used throughout the entire system. i have seen pictures of them years ago. i have noticed that the modern concrete sleepers often develop cracks at the centre. this is bad design. whenever i have to catch a train here in perth i walk the platform looking for cracked sleepers and always find at least one. the cracks are not dangerous but do allow water to seep inside to start rusting the steel rods. the novel sleepers in this video have no need for pre-stressing bars which is a big advantage when they are being made..
@driver667
@driver667 8 месяцев назад
@@vsvnrg3263 yes, I think they were a trial at the time. It's a pity they didn't use concrete across the network much earlier. 👍😀

Why do some buffers have chunks missing?
@Physigist
@Physigist 8 месяцев назад
iirc, it's to allow the loco to couple up to passenger rollingstock without the buffers pinching the flexible walkway walls between each carriage (Don't remember the proper name for them)
