I was raised in South Florida and heard them for the first time when they opened for REM in Miami. No one there knew who they were and neither did I. As soon as they started playing I knew I was watching something special. Most of the people there were not even interested. I couldn't believe people were ignoring them. I was like are you people crazy? Dont you hear that sound? Almost 40 years later and I live in Georgia now, and they are still one of the greatest underated bands ever.
These guys are not unknown among artists. They have been very involved among the actual artist bands like ZEBRA from New Orleans. Even bigger maybe was they led the fight and raided funds to get GREAT WHITE released from jail with the charges dropped because the band itself was not responsible for that horrific fire event where people died in South Carolina. There was an event where the band's equipment trailer was stolen and you would not believe the mega guys & gals that all DONATED EQUIPMENT so they ended up 100 times better then when they started. This song particular is 1 of the greatest rock anthems of all time hands down. Hell in 87 we were blowing up 100 amp speakers over this stuff.
@jg1007 I was at that show too. Heard of them but never knew their work. You're exactly right - before they finished their first song I was hooked! Blew REM off the stage. Been a fan ever since.
I'm sorry to hear you're having a difficult time. Just like the good times the hardships do not last. Sometimes they linger on but good times will come again. You're not alone, ✌
I hope you have worked through them! To give you some perspective; this song, and the album, helped me a lot in getting through probably the hardest times times I'll ever go through. It was when this album came out, in '89. This is my favorite song on the album.
When the honeysuckle blooms in the deep south the air is filled with the sweetest scent you`ll ever smell and you can`t get enough of it. I`ve been all over the country, that scent is in few other places plus never seen sky bluer than the south. The south will always be my home. This song simply tells it like it is.
NE Tennessee!!! In the Appalachian mountains!!! Gotta love the Carolina blue sky, fresh clean air, honeysuckle blooming on just about every row of fence you see. GOD bless this sweet Southern home.
Early 90’s on the river in Alabama throwing horseshoes, riding jet skis this was the jam. Kids today, you missed out on the best time to be a teenager.
I used to drive a truck and when I would get to delivery and if someone saw my ga license plate and they had been here before, they would smile and say I love georgia. You could see them come back here in their mind. I'd answer them by saying I wish I could take you back with me.. tears would always well up in our eyes, mine because I was going home when I left. Sitting here at home in cohutta right now thinking there's no gift more beautiful than giving someone a ticket to Georgia simply because.. he's never been. 53 years born and raised and will die a peach. Go Dawgs!

@@SteveA61172 I woke up hearing "Straight to Hell" this morning and longed for it to be 1989 again... And how much I miss those days of living in TN & GA.
@@victoriac1299 , South Florida has it's charm. I'm from Wisconsin. I lived in Atlanta, then Miami, Pompano Beach and Palm Beach Gardens. I'll take South Florida any day!
He and his band got me through a six month stay in the hospital with sepsis in 2015. a friend told me when I got out (which was in some doubt at the time that I would get out) we'd go see them n concert.
Southern born & raised. 1 of the Best damn underappreciated rock bands of the south & of North America! REM, Indigo Girls & Drivin & Cryin speak for the talent pool that emerged from north GA❤ I'll die a southern boy with D&C in my soul even though I no longer live there❤😊 **Edit** I left out the B52s & Guadalcanal Diary in my original post (shame on me)speaking of N. Georgia's talent that emerged along with D&C, IG & REM back in the day. So many GREAT memories associated with those amazing bands! Side note -wikipedia lists Guadalcanal diary as a pop band🤣😆GD WAS a rock band thru&thru!
The bass player is Glenn Burns son in-law. Glenn was the weather man on Channel 2 for years. Glenn is also a hell of a fisherman. Had his own magazine for awhile. Loved that magazine!
Kevn played this, at my personal request, for my 27th birthday in Tuscaloosa Alabama. He visited with me and my friends in between sets and asked what we wanted to hear. Honeysuckle Blue and Scarred but Smarter is what I requested. He opened the next set with both!
Blackbeard said it all - or at least what this southern man was gonna say - God bless these boys from Marietta. Southern Pride boy - aint nothn like it.
Georgia....ain't no better place to live. I was born here, but I've traveled and lived many places...and no place is as beautiful as Georgia. Scatter my ashes around 285!
Amen brother... I've lived in Cherokee county all my life (42 years) and this is where I want to die....and when I do I want my ashes scattered on the Etowah River....my favorite place on Earth... there's no place I'd rather live... I seen drivin n cryin a few summers ago in Woodstock Georgia and Kevin Kenny tossed me a guitar pick with his name on it... unfortunately I had a hole in my pocket and it fell out while I was walking home from the show drunk lol....but I feel very fortunate to have seen them perform live front row... I love drivin n cryin and I love Georgia
96 Macon street parties and colesium events marked my soul in a way that shaped me and what I expect from concerts and festivals. In one year one city delivered Screaming Cheetah Wheelie's, D&C, Molly Hatchet, Kenny Wayne Shepard, BOA, Mountain, Iron Butterfly, and Foghat. Unfortunately I have never been influenced or satisfied by any music festival or venue in the same way since.
@@fishboy3179 seeing DNC and Screamin Cheetah Wheelies this summer at the Caverns festival. Should be one hell of a show!! Can’t fucking wait to see both live. SCW is the best band of all time and DNC hopefully will be at the top! DNC has already gained a new fan!
"D'Agostino's late last night. . . " You know, there's an earnestness here, that's been lost, even just since the late 80s/90s. Does anyone make music like this anymore?
Well this song is just a superb piece of art. Hard for anyone to come close to doing something like this. But your right, not much this day and age that has such a moving vibe.
I live in Texas grew up in Belvedere/ North Augusta, SC great music very regional though I have played it everywhere and everyone likes it but never heard of them. Its alot like Texas red dirt if you dont live there probably not going to hear it.
Saw these guys Feb 15 2020 in WI, just before the virus thing hit. Fly Me Courageous got me there. But WOW! Didn't realize what a collection of awesome songs they had. Can't turn them off. If you get the chance to see them, just do it! Better live than the albums.
I miss being shitfaced with my friends in the early 90s at DnC shows. Just listened to four albums of theirs straight in an attempt to get it back. Ramones meet Country, forever.
Use to love the song just like momma said when I was in high school, just get high above the clouds and jam driven and crying black crowes skynyrd just southern boys doing what we do
OMG!!! I absolutely LOVE this!! I've never been to Georgia but, it's on my bucket list of states to visit! Congratulations and THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for bringing home to me the purity and heart and soul of TRUE beauty and love of life and open country living!!! This is truly amazing!!!!
I met Kevin Kinney at a small town”professional wrestling event” the event was soo small venue very small there stood Kevin Kinney supporting small town wrestling along with some of husband mates! Very nice guys who take time with their fans when they don’t wanna be recognized!
#KevinKinney #drivinncryin #singersongwriter Happy Birthday Kevin Kinney a true American gem. One of my all time favorite southern rockers. I have been a huge fan since the late 80's. I never tire listening to his music. #ForYou is an perfect song and I implore you to check out this band. Kevin come tour the north east we miss you man. #mygeeklife
So glad to see folks only having good things to say. Beautiful music and lyrics. Brings me back to a wonderful and beautiful place. Shared w/friends out west bc all they know is Lynard Skynard and possibly Black Crowes (NO DISRESPECT to those bands either btw). Thanks for posting this video. Just awesome!
Too bad the innocent days of small Southern town. Blue Ridge Georgia is beautiful. Too bad drugs take over and small towns like this. Meth is killing our kids.
I grew up in Cherokee county myself and would go to blue ridge every opening day of trout season every year...one of the prettiest places on Earth...that I've seen anyway... I hope to move there one day
one of the best bands of all time! they are so underrated, they need to be up there with "the ramones" or "AC/DC"...gonna go see them tomorrow 12/26/09
+Peter DellOlio Pete!!! Jeez! Long time, eh?? Hey, man! Do you remember that time Mike started crying after he drank just half a beer? Terry once told me that was the same night you wet yourself in his passenger seat on the way home. Crazy times, huh? Those were the good old days.
