Sport evo engine specs: Standard M3: 2302cc Sport evo: 2467 cc Each cylinder bore was enlarged from 93.4mm to 95mm. Meanwhile, stroke was lengthened from 84mm to 97mm which necessitated the installation of a unique long throw crankshaft. Special nozzles were also installed that sprayed oil under the pistons to keep them cool. Other new equipment included more aggressive camshafts, larger inlet and exhaust valves (the latter now sodium-cooled) and a big bore exhaust manifold. Come on over to my channel if anyone wants to learn the more detailed features of the Sport evo, just received mine and will have an indepth video soon. 👍🏽

18:09 - A "dog box" transmission is completely different from a "dog-leg box" transmission. You're dealing with a dog-leg transmission there (the placement of 1st gear is downward to the left, like a dog's leg when peeing). This is preferable in motorsports because 1st gear is rarely used so its placement is sacrificed to make the much more common 2nd-to-3rd shift (and back again) much easier. A "dog box" is one with exceptionally wide dog teeth on the selector collars making clutch-less and/or on-power shifting trivial. It has nothing to do with where the gears are placed in the gate. The steering wheel and shifter are supposed to look like that. They aren't Alcantara or suede as that hadn't yet been popularized in cars in the 90s. BMW calls it Rough Leather, it's basically the unfinished backside of the leather

@@ObsessedGarage That's 100% "rough leather." They put that in the e34, and was also offered on the e36 on the GT. I bought a rough leather shift knob from the dealer last year. I am pretty sure rough leather is just suede. That's what suede is, the backside of the leather.

Where are you guys getting your numbers? Nice Sport Evos trade in the low-200s all the time. And $100k for a regular M3 with a ton of miles? C'mon. The old EAG is gone. Those cars aren't that mint.

Great video Matt! So jealous you got to drive that beauty! Oddly enough, I always thought the Us-spec S50 is a good candidate for a fun E30 m3 swap (in the right chassis of course). Not too much power to throw off the "character," but a lot more torque for enjoying it on the street.

I’m was grinning ear to ear watching Matt drive the Evo. I have an E30 325is, S50 swapped with Koni Ground Control and Good Brakes. As Jeremy Clarkson would say, “What a Machine!!!” 🤓😂 PS: The rev matches are really that easy and it makes for such a fun time!

Every new episode makes me wish I didn't sell my '91 E30 318is in Alpine white. Nowhere near to the level of the M3 or Sport Evo but it was super simple and just enough.

The EVO sounds much better through the revs and shifts an seems to have tighter suspension based on movements inside w/ cameras. Maybe try a out a very well sorted Volvo 850 T5R sometime?

I commented on your previous video, re swapped e30 m3. If you can, try drive a swapped s54 or euro s50 e36 or e30. Done correctly with oem engine mounts etc, feels like factory 👍👍

bmw basically made a s54 swapped e30 m3 already with the z3m\coupe. Makes the swap into a e30 relatively easy too if you can find the parts.

I used to have an 88 Hannah red tan interior when I was a senior in high school we bought it used at the auction for 24,000 and I went to sell it the year after and it got stolen on a test drive while I was out of town got it back I still got the gear shift knob LOL and a picture of me driving it add a scca Martin Marietta Orlando Florida event

What gearbox is it in that one, I seen the video that 1 gear is up left. 🤔On real european M3 the gearbox is upside down. 1 gear is down left

If you are interested in good build quality, Matt, you should treat yourself to a classic Benz. I have owned them along with E30s. They're another level above the E30, or even an air-cooled 911. I'm partial to the W114 and W123 sedans myself, but anything made up until 1993 or so will have the same no compromise engineering philosophy. I think you'd be blown away.

Nice. I don't think the evo is worth 200k more than the standard car though, not by a long stretch. You could have the standard M3 with a few mods and potentially have something better than a stock evo M3.

If you want the experience of a E30 M3 without spending 300k, just buy a regular good chassis E30, do some suspension mods and swap a K20/K24 into the car. There are plug and play harnesses and kits (engine mounts etc.) for an easy swap. You could build your own OG E30 which i think would also be very interesting to see on the channel

Tbh, to troll the E30 M3 purists I would K swap one for a better driving experience. If I was to tune one with the genuine BMW feel, I’d pay Ide-San from iDing Power. Such an underrated tuning shop!

Matt needs to drive a 190e 2.3-16 which came prior to the M3. It is objectively better driving than the e30 m3

Unpopular/Unsolicited opinion: The "base" e30 m3 is overrated. I understand the collector appeal, but overall.. performance wise it seems underwhelming. The evo is definitely the car to have but 300 is steeeep lol
