We've done some insane rally races on The List, but in an effort to continually out-do ourselves this might be the craziest yet. It's called the Gambler 500 and the idea is that 2000+ participants take $500 cars and drive them 500 miles across Oregon, mostly off-road. Join our hosts Jessi and Patrick as they take the gamble and find out whether or not their $500 jalopy will survive through the most treacherous route in the rally, "The Devil's Butthole", as they check drive the Gambler 500 off their list.

Dude said it cost just under $1000 for the Miata and the tires and suspension are not cheap. Even if the roll cage was home built and the paint was done with rattle cans, this thing was not $500.

That offroad kit looks to be the Paco motorsports one with the AFCO coilovers, that's 5K in itself. Add the cage and the tires and it's well over 6K.

either way the Miata doesn't qualify, but I hear there is an exemption for unusual cars.

there's no rules. it doesnt matter. the spirit of the event is 500$ cars, but you can bring your moms escalade if you wish. im bringing a ford tempo down from alaska and no im not buying a 500$ car to travel thousands of miles. im buying a car that'll make it there.

My super secret emergency repair exhaust MUST HAVE.........Plumbers Strap....ask for it BY NAME!!!! The stuff is ONLY around $2 and with a couple of twists with a pair of pliers or a couple of small screws and a few small nuts and your exhaust WILL NEVER FALL OFF EVER AGAIN!!! Just double nut EVERYTHING!!!! LOL!! I have repaired more exhaust systems with Plumbers Strap that you can EVER IMAGINE!!!! LOL

So, did they buy that car from the promoter for $500? In order to keep the field level, it should be required that you also sell your car to the promoter at the end of the event for $500, if the promoter requests it, that way people won't bring $20,000 cars to 'compete' with junkers.

$500 lol hahahaha a lot the cars are like $10,000 not $500. that miata .... is one of those examples lol 1000 for the car, 1500 plus for suspension, 1500 for those tires, 500-1000 for the roll bar, that car is an easy $5,000 minimum.

Maybe the rules say paid for it...hell..I got better stuff than that in the barn! It’s worth more than I paid for it... half the time it was free... I fix a tractor tire for a neighbor and he gives me a set of tires from a new Chevy he did not want cause he put a lift, wheels and bigger tires on his.. you can get a lot of good stuff for nothin or for cheap...
