You gotta hand it to Chicago, I expected far more decaying buildings. Seems like they have bulldozed a significant amount. I just assume every empty lot formerly hosted an abandoned building.
I grew up in the south side of Richmond as a little toddler, then I moved to 80th in laugh land around 3rd and 4th grade. I hated it there but luckily my parents moved to the suburbs in 2016 and it just made a big difference on my life and it was so much better. I really use to hate the city 😭
20:53 That "Nicholson Technology Academy" shown at 60th and Peoria is the site of my former elementary school, William G. Beale Elementary School which I attended Kindergarten through 8th Grade, graduating in 1975. The building is essentially the same, with some updates and additions, but during my time there, that building was known as the "new building", which housed the K-5th grade classrooms as well as the only cafeteria on campus. The original school building, located across the schoolyard closer to 61st and Sangamon was an ancient 4 story structure which we referred to as the "old building". It was officially known as the Wm. G. Beale Upper Grade Center", housing grades 6-8. It was in the UGC that we began having homerooms for each class in each grade and going to different classrooms and teachers for various subjects as opposed to spending the entire day in one class with one teacher covering various subjects. The old building was torn down some years after I graduated, and from this, I can assume that the Beale School that I knew is long gone.
Must be a Midwest thing, because Chicago hoods are not like the hoods on the East Coast. You go to NYC, Philly, Newark or Baltimore, and the hoods look like a bomb was dropped.
Is it safe to go to the king von memorial and take a couple of very quick pictures? 😮 I go to Chicago with my husband once a year. I want to do that and I've seen other people's pics but I'm not sure if I should. Especially having an outta state plate (Kentucky) on my car. I am the biggest Von fan, my husband says if he was still alive I'd leave him for Von lol 😂😂 I bought the blue coat from the broke opps video a few years ago lol! Anyway I wanna know I always feel like my trip is incomplete when we leave because of that. Sorry soo long. @fatboydayoungan
@@deltajohnson6604 it’s in O’Block on 64th, but it is not safe especially if u don’t know people and what kind of affiliated gangs will come to that store. I would say NO.
Most of the parts of Englewood you showed were already black in the 1960’s. You never touched the white Englewood that was totally destroyed by the blacks!
