Filmed on Sunday, December 3 2023, I drive around Downtown Oklahoma City, OK to see what's going on.
Oklahoma City was settled on April 22, 1889, when the area known as the "Unassigned Lands" was opened for settlement in an event known as "The Land Run". On April 26 of that year its first mayor was elected, William Couch. Some 10,000 homesteaders settled the area that would become the capital of Oklahoma. The town grew quickly; the population doubled between 1890 and 1900.
By the time Oklahoma was admitted to the Union in 1907, Oklahoma City had surpassed Guthrie, the territorial capital, as the new state's population center and commercial hub. Soon after, the capital was moved from Guthrie to Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City was a major stop on Route 66 during the early part of the 20th century.
Before World War II, Oklahoma City developed major stockyards, attracting jobs and revenue formerly in Chicago and Omaha, Nebraska. With the 1928 discovery of oil within the city limits (including under the State Capitol), Oklahoma City became a major center of oil production.
Residents of Oklahoma City suffered substantial losses on April 19, 1995, when Timothy McVeigh detonated a bomb in front of the Murrah building. The building was destroyed, more than 100 nearby buildings suffered severe damage, 168 people were killed, and more than 600 were injured. McVeigh was executed by lethal injection on June 14, 2001.

Kind of misleading….to truly measure how big a city is…you have to add the whole Metropolitan Area

Hopefully they've repaired the interstate coming in from the west. It used to beat you up pretty good.😃

couldn't tell ya, I came from Joplin and I don't think I even saw the west side of town, wish I had more time to spend in these places, once I get enough footage for a decent video it's off to the next city.

We're from LA and just came back from visiting OKC and many other surrounding towns. We really like it there. Way less traffic, less congestion, less stress. Nice open country, lower cost of living. A whole different world compared to LA which has become crazy and out of control.

@@18andlikeitOf course you liked it, we're a clean Conservative Republican city that's isn't being destroyed by extreme socialist policies. I hope you don't think we are interested in becoming the next LA.

Bob Dylan sang a great song called Desolation Row. He must have been referring to Oklahoma City, I have never seen such desolution in my entire life. Not run down, but desolute. Something spooky about this place, it's very off putting seeing a city w/ no people in it. Is the entire city like this?

Don’t move to Oklahoma City. Not that it’s bad. The surrounding towns are getting over populated since there’s too many people moving here. And none of the locals really like it. And we don’t really want to be more overpopulated with out of state people moving in. Fix your state or go somewhere that’s not Oklahoma. I’ve heard that Nevada and Canada are nice.

Nevada? Las Vegas is a prime example of a place becoming becoming overcrowded

@@RickyMoss People have been entering the Oklahoma City area recently. Like a lot. And over population was already kind of an issues. But now it’s worse. Like a lot worse.
