My Dads early dash cam driving around Jackson Tn. on Dec, 28th 1987 around 11:50 AM. Dad drives from Hollywood Drive, down Parkway, onto Old Hickory and turns onto Highland. I end it after driving thru Hicksville. More to come!
When the radio came on in the service merchandise parking lot around 8.5 mins or so, the woman on the radio who requested the song (Sheila Stansell) is my Aunt who passed away in Dec. 2000. So crazy! My husband was watching this video yesterday and noticed it. Who would've thought about 31 years later we would hear her voice one more time!
Wow that is so cool i worked for SERVICE MERCHANDISE here in Chicago from 1983-1988 was an awesome store which was founded in Nashville Tenn by the Zimmermans
Yeh that is so great to hear a lost loved ones voice from such an obscure source. Needle in a haystack. I think that kinda makes sense. Lol!!! Truly very cool tho.
It felt like time stood still in this video! I used to work there at the Service Merchandise store a few years before that time and remember when the parking lot was full of cars like that. That's no more now! Also, I see now that quite a few restaurants and other well-known establishments are still up and running even after all these years...and in the same location too! Thanks for the memories!
I could watch these all day long. I just discovered these. I was 11 yrs old and had gotten my first professional skateboard ssnta cruz/ jeff kendall and wouldve been around the carriage house / wallace rd area at the old bull market wall skating. It rained alot that christmas because we ended up skating ip undervthe old wal mart sidewalk down around revco and that shoe store.
These videos bring back so many memories. I'm looking forward to seeing the one that picks up where this one left off, as your dad was just entering the edge of the neighborhood that I grew up in. Thanks again for posting these..
Where would we be without Parks Belk Sounza Music and Service Merchandise, we were going to one of those places weekly! Thanks for sharing, I’m proud to hail from Jackson TN as I get introduced from there nightly performing at the Terry Fator Show in Las Vegas.
It's pretty wild; a lot of this stuff is way before my time, but oddly enough, it seems like a lot of stuff back then is still here, minus Davis Kidd and some others. The northeast area, though -- I distinctly remember there being nothing out there, and now it's filled with restaurants and stuff. Mall's been dead for a while, though, and downtown still carries that same melancholic feeling I'd felt since I was a kid living in south Jackson. I guess some things never change.
Downtown motel! Such an interesting building to look at but it became such a hell hole. I remember seeing a room with the mattress on the floor. Pretty sure I was therr to buy some weed. I didn't touch other stuff but it was definitely there.
