This is my home town. 25 years ago Santa Ana had some areas that you did not want walk at night but looking at this video it looks a lot better than 25 years ago. This the city of Olds school funk and low riders. Beautiful city.
Not all of Santa Ana is bad, same can be said about Long Beach or even La I grew up in Evergreen and it honestly not only looks like a slummy la project but also gets a lot of shootouts because of Del Hi being right around the corner (2 major rivals, Evergreen is smaller)
I've been a Santa Ana resident since 1995. And like most sort of big cities, it has plenty of issues. Crime wise the city is way safer than it used to be in the 90s. Indeed it is a family city. Downtown is now a big attraction for partying young people. And there are some notable neighborhoods with really nice houses: Floral Park, Wilshire Square, Northeast Santa Ana, and there's South Coast Metro with the High Rise apartments . All within a five mile radius . Santa Ana is also the county's municipal seat and the federal courts are here, so whenever there's some federal crime case in the news, it's reported from here, giving impression that crimes happen here all the time.
That's exactly what I was trying to say, most outsides (in the comments below) still call it ghetto simply because they don't experience living here day to day 🤷🏻♀️
Honestly it really depends on the area you live in, the part of Santa Ana I live in can be very sketchy at times, few years ago there was gang related drive-by near my house, this one drugged up lady started cursing at me one time when I was walking home from work, etc. To be honest living in Santa Ana my whole life (minus these ten years where I was living in Orange) I'm not bothered by it that much anymore, to the point I could joke about it to other people who don't live in Santa Ana. Also my best friend lives in Irvine, so every time I visit him, I always tell him how cleaner Irvine is compared to Santa Ana, lol.
From 86 to 93 lived in Placentia abt 20mins N on 57 fwy. Yea we heard it was rough but a lot of places in SoCal were experiencing crime spikes that time. Its hard to undo that programming as I am sure its safer today
I grew up in Santa Ana my mom still lives there, it’s ghetto! They have to put their trash bins in the street so someone don’t park In front of their houses. It’s also a sanctuary city.
@@theamericanexplorer when there’s 10 people living in one house they all have cars. They park all over the neighborhood , no parking ever for the actual homeowners.
@@olg06I knew a homeless dude there, walking home from the market he told me how he used to live down the street but was evicted due to rent be overdue and it’s crazy because they didn’t live that far from me A lot of Santa Ana’s homeless is just because of homes becoming too expensive, this gentrification bullshit makes the rich richer and the poor even more poor smh nothing good about it
Nothing wrong with old houses the ones in my neighborhood are remodeled but still retaining that 50's charm they are so cute & beautiful & sell close to a million. Also these older homes usually have big backyards something new constructed houses don't have.
Some parts are super ghetto, some are really nice. I lived right on the border and could tell the difference when I crossed north of 17th st. I lived by Logan and South of that it got ghetto. Even worse now with all the tents.
Santa Ana is definitely ghetto in some areas, unfortunately. Drive through Townsend, Minnie in the evenings. You crossed into fountain Valley at the end, i took that little bridge to my job at fountain valley hospital daily. You missed north santa ana too, you'll notice the diffrence from south santa ana. As a resident, it is ghetto, at our own fault.
I was probably the only white guy around when I got an airbnb for work. Loved the culture. The food carts with the horns and music at night gave it its own vibe to appreciate. Some homeless approached me but i don't speak spanish so i couldn't really help out. No sketchy moments. Definitely a lot of families especially since i was by the school.
Yeah lots of families just surviving and minding their own business! There are parts that are more shady but you won’t see them is you stay away 🤷🏻♀️ the area bordering with Costa Mesa is really nice! Lots of food places and shopping!
Let’s be honest. If you live in Irvine, Santa Ana is somewhat of a downgrade. An apartment in Huntington Beach may seem more attractive . If you are ok with the Latin culture, and the positives like the hard work ethic, food and culture, you’re probably going to be ok. If you’re of a different culture and can’t stand being around certain types of people, then this is not a neighborhood for you. My humble opinion. People tend to go where their own people are. Asians by in large would prefer Irvine not just because it’s nice, but because you’ll find a community of Asians. That’s inevitably how it seems to work.
I live in Santa Ana, and my best friend lives in Irvine. So yeah every time I go visit him, I always noticed how much of an upgrade Irvine is compared to Santa Ana.
I love my city. Born and raised there. My parents bought their first home in 1952. My parents still live there. Santa Ana is not outdated. You’re welcome to stay away.
I’ve lived in Santa Ana it’s not nearly as bad as it was in the late 90s early 2000s there were certain parks you could not go to at night now I take my kid to play soccer and the parks look a lot better and are well lit and cleaner
What is your definition of “ghetto”? Is the homes being old? The race of the ppl who live there, or crime in the area? The idea of what’s “ghetto” is a relative term depending on who you’re talking to.
@@theamericanexplorerin that case Santa Ana is ghetto lmaoo it has one of the highest homeless populations in the whole country, del hi literally has couches and trash everywhere, crime wise stabbings and shootings do happen but I say just start in the nicer areas Santa Ana has good and bad, i grew up sadly on the rougher area but I now live in Long Beach
I was born and raised in Santa Ana. It always felt safe in the 1950-1960's. In the 1970's -1980's the Skinheads started some troubles with teens. There were always Hispanics, mostly farmworkers. Some illegals. In 1968 I rented a duplex just of Harbor Blv. and 5th Street for $50.00 a month in 1973 I lived in an apartment for $128.00 a month. My folks purchased a nice home on Figeroa Street in the 1960's for $8,000.00. When I left California in 1993 my rent in Buena Park was about $700.00 a month. I have a lot of history and great memories in Santa Ana. I had family in all the connecting cities. I remember when all the orange groves. I wish Santa Ana the best. Inflation is at the highest ever, I cannot imagine living in California anywhere now.
Facts man, once you see those those tight ass project apartments by mcfadden or the ones in pico lowell that’s how yk u in the ruff areas, i grew up in evergreen so honestly I’m used to it but man I visited my uncle place is all tagged and couches everywhere now there’s more kids dressing like that it’s insane where are there parents at why are they drinking so young But to each there own I guess
East LA is tiny compared to SA, area wise and population wise, theres evidence of over 800,000 people living there most undocumented. Its more like Mini Mexico here
@@Omw2fyb This year 2023 Santa Ana made the list of safest cities in US with a population of over 300,000 thousand at # 13, right between Arlington TX and Omaha NE
@@astrozooSanta Ana ranks #7 on most dangerous cities in south California so you’d be wrong, San Bernardino ranks #1 in Socal, it’s literally the most dangerous city in OC i thought everyone knew this
@@user-di7vl3ol8r I live in Santa Ana it's not that dangerous. Once in a while something happens, but not too often. I've lived in and visited much more dangerous places. If someone is trying to be a bad ass and get in trouble, anyplace will be dangerous for them.
You picked a nice neighborhood. But in all actually, most of Santa Ana is pretty trashy and plagued by home/vehicle thefts, drugs, a rampant homeless problem, and gang related crimes. You couldn't pay me to live in Santa Ana the way it is right now.
Edimger and raitt is ok but theres Little streets that are the danger like townsend and well i live by 2nd and raitt so this area is alot more ghetto cuz u got druggys n stuff but where ur filming its just schools and the good area
@@pepeeltoro1759 looking to buy a small house with my young daughter, possibly on flower. What areas would you say aren't safe? No one seems to give specifics.
Lived at ball and hourbor Ani the of cypress in Santa Ana and I'm born and raised in the philly and NYC area... living there was the worst. Everything was far away like simple things like food. NYC much better.
VERY different states, in NY you can take the subway to get to somewhere, here you HAVE to have a car...Once you get to know your surroundings and shortcuts it gets easier. I prefer NY too lol
SA got way too expensive. I remember when people didn't really didn't want to live in SA. Now people don't care and are willing to pay more rent. Too bad there's no rent control in OC
I know thats crazy!!! I lived in Irvine just by the edge of SA, my rent was $2600 for a ONE bed apartment. I moved out and now its for rent for $3800!!!!!!!
@@theamericanexplorer that's insane rent price! This is why some people in OC live with family. It's just too damn expensive to live on your own. Even the ghetto is too expensive 🫰 😕 lol
All I see is comments from old people who used to live here. I currently am 23 loved here since I was 7 and let me tell you. It’s ghetto. For example, 9 of my middle school friends are dead because of gang violence. Fuck what y’all portraying of Santa Ana we need help stop lying. We need assistance it’s not safe here. I’ve been jumped my dad almost got mugged in the street once. I almost got kidnapped.
@@eriksolano2091 Forbes list of most dangerous and safest cities in the US. But you are right, Santa Ana has ghetto elements. Just this week, there was an attempted robbery on my neighbor in broad daylight, lol.
Santa Ana is neither ghetto or nice I just don’t like how it really changes from one neighborhood to another. One house can ruin the entire view of the street! I just don’t like how they have fences on their front yard it takes away the look.
It is ghetto because we have a lot of illegals. Which make up the traffic, random pop up taco stands etc. There just an overall lawlessness here, much more evident on friday nights and weekends. Go down first street by zoo and you'll see the beginnings of our very own tenderloin. The dog running around is evidence of that. Just people dont care. The parks are over run with gangs and homeless/ druggies. I dont want to live there but i do😢. I usually hang out elsewhere. It is not a quiet area to go to honestly.
It's a Mexican city, but it's pretty safe. This year 2023 Santa Ana made the list of safest cities in US with a population of over 300,000 thousand at # 13, right after Arlington TX, and before Omaha NE. All in all Santa Ana is quite boring.
You sound very ignorant....illegals? Man you wanna be white so bad huh... remember these lands are from the natives...same people, just speak a different language....think about what you will type next time
Really? My friend and her family has lived on one of the streets for years in the video and said besides sometimes loud parties, they never had an issue :O
@@theamericanexplorerit just depends where you live. You’ll see nice neighborhoods, bad neighborhoods. It’s depends, it’s not what it used to be like in the 90’s, it has problems it some sections of the city but not as bad.
@@theamericanexplorer i just realized this video is 1 year old. They did a gang sweep there so It might safe now. But about 10 years ago. Things were different.
I think its extremely overpriced for Santa Ana! But so is everything right now unfortunately. But if it was cheap, more people would move here which would make traffic even worse!
