You do know that they are hiring part time train operators right now right? I applied a few days ago, you should too. It is part time but it's a huge step in the Bart career.

bow arrow : Check out bart.gov and click on the "ABOUT" tab. You'll see a section for job listings. Applications are done on-line. BART used to post new listings each Monday but I'm not sure if they still do it then or on a different day. Pay attention to the "last day to file by" or else your application will be rejected. Because of the pandemic, BART has cut its operations and shuffled personnel around but, remarkably, has managed not to lay anyone off. BART recently offered incentives to entice high seniority employees to consider retirement. I'm sure that once this pandemic recedes and BART ramps up service, they'll begin hiring again. Keep checking the job listings and apply for those which interest you. If you lack some of the qualifications, apply anyway and play up the ones you do have. Let BART tell you "sorry", don't do it for them. Good luck.

On the docklands light railway in London there is no driver and the passenger service agent walks through the train assisting passengers. There is a small cabinet at the front to drive the train in an emergency because just like BART the trains are automatically driven in normal operation.
@ericjamieson
@ericjamieson 6 лет назад
BART is more like the Victoria line, which was built around the same time. Pretty much automatic but the driver still closes the doors and presses "go."

How does the automated Train Operation work on the BART? How does the driver signal the computer to start the train, and then stop it at the station? Does he push some sort of button to start the train, or does he move the throttle lever all the way to start it, and then all the way back when teh train has stopped at the station. How does it work on GOA2 ATO systems?
@abdullaharif6455
@abdullaharif6455 4 месяца назад
The driver initiates the movement of the train from a stop by pressing or long pressing one or more buttons when in automatic mode. The overall driving from one station to the next (including acceleration, speed control, deceleration and stopping) is fully automatic.

How would they move the train manually?
@PlutoRelinquish800
@PlutoRelinquish800 7 лет назад
SuperWorldFan360 These trains usually take orders from speed restrictions programmed in the tracks so they run automatically. If the train loses that signal, the operator must 'manually' run the train without restrictions from the control center.
@sfmike711
@sfmike711 7 лет назад
DoctorMac: "... without restrictions ..."? What are you talking about?? I was a BART T/O for 11 years and am now retired. In road manual the operator never runs without instructions from Central. Never ever (well, one might make a case for a natural disaster with the radio system failed or destroyed - that's a long shot). The T/O also has to repeat verbatim the instructions to the controller before receiving authorization to execute the move. There are always restrictions given by the controller, usually a speed limit, how to proceed, which switch to crank, which track to take, run limit, etc. Never say something unless you know what you're talking about. If you do say something erroneous, someone who actually knows what's going on will call you out and make you look like the big fool you really are ... oh, snap!! ... ouch! By the way, the default speed limit for road manual is set at 25 mph, for yard manual, it's set at 10 mph. You're welcome.
@PlutoRelinquish800

Well that's my understanding from the MBTA. Don't act like a snowflake.
@sfmike711
@sfmike711 7 лет назад
DoctorMac: Snowflake? Aren't you in the wrong season? Upset that someone knows something and you don't? Oh, poor baby! While I'm not specifically familiar with the MBTA's OR&P, I highly doubt that the MBTA operates any differently than BART does vis-à-vis running in manual mode. Railroads are sticklers for making sure any movement is extremely orchestrated so accidents and problems are avoided. Train controllers make every effort to eliminate any chance of error. Major metropolitan rail transit agencies and commuter railroads are pretty much in agreement that any manual operation or movement outside automatic mode is subject to very tight controls. Unlike your mistaken first post, restrictions are indeed a way of life for railroads. That's for your protection and safety. Oh ... you're welcome ... again.
@sfmike711
@sfmike711 6 лет назад
Rick Traveler Smith: Fuck you big time! If that's the case, then DoctorMac needs to write the sentence more clearly to express the desired point. "... without restrictions from the control center" would mean without any instructions or limitations from the train controllers (something which would never be done since they like to run the show as smoothly as possible). Now, if the problem is loss of speed codes to the train's on-board computer from the MUX boxes or Central's computer, then say so. These are two entirely different scenarios. They are not the same. What DoctorMac wrote is not what you "explain" it to mean. There's nothing douchey about what I said. The response based on what DoctorMac wrote is correct. You, apparently, are the one with his head up his ass - along with his equally small-minded prick.
