What happens when the car egresses the water and loses Fb? It will be too heavy to move. You saw what happened to the tow rope. It's already too heavy.

@@ajcsanders Uncle C said for try #2 it would be even better sealed than before but the water that entered was actually helping him supplement his ballast deficit. The way the water distributes evenly as a ballast is actually less stressful on the car than solid ballast. I agree it is already too heavy because it is a crazy idea in the first place but to actually achieve the crazy goal it still was not heavy enough. That rope broke because it was a flimsy welfare rope and there are straps that are strong enough to handle the strain with ease. Because the frame was designed to handle the G-forces of dynamic loads I would expect it to technically support the weight without breaking on its bottomed out suspension since we are talking just a bit more than doubling of the original mass. As uncle C pointed out the volume gets more buoyant as it sinks and so the reality is to make it sink all the way that tesla needs to have a weight equivalent to 2 full size pickup trucks one way or the other. Whether it is water or solid ballast doesn't matter but to achieve the spirit of the mission I take it that he wants to keep the cabin relatively dry like a james bond lotus submarine. About it not being able to move, with it being a plaid model that car has a horsepower equivalent that is well above a 1000hp car and with it being torquey electric motors I know it would have more than enough power to keep on moving despite having to weigh as much as 2 trucks as long as the systems remain functional! Because even with 2k more pounds of ballast it would be just neutrally buoyant, it would need to weigh even more to actually have additional negative buoyancy so the tires don't merely spin out on the bottom from lack of traction because it can't just merely touch the bottom but needs to literally press on the bottom to hook. The rope is 25,000 lbs winch line stronger than steel. It was the knot that made it fail. But Yeah it will work just needs more weight. Once it enters the water the weight is nullified by the buoyancy and i hope to have 500-1000lbs on the tires. If i blow out a shock or two i dont care it will still drive itself out. Only thing I worry about is a “water safe plug” made by tesla fails and the mission is a loss. If it does what its suppose to do then it will happen when we retry in a couple of days.

@@ChillinwithChet That's right Uncle C if you achieve the 500-1000lbs of negative buoyancy when it is in the water the suspension will not be bottomed out at all the ride height will be actually higher than normal because it would need the 4.5klbs of negative buoyancy to compress down to even regular ride height. It would be the before and after the pool that it would be bottomed out and bottoming out a shock slowly doesn't hurt them at all it is only when they are bottomed out very fast like when hitting a curb that blows them out. If it isn’t reliable then it isn’t much help. Spending a few hundred a month in repairs to keep a car going adds up to enough money to cover a lease on a cheap new car. Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture and see what the better option is.

Fill the tires with water, that is a TON of buoyancy.... many cu. ft. of air.

add some harbor freight bilge pumps to pump the water out as it comes in ther so cheap and a couple of those would probably provide enough drainage to keep the cab dry
