Driving On WA SR-161 North In 1984 (Puyallup)

Back in 1984, The Washington State Department of Transportation drove North on SR-161 and recorded video to document the highway. This was part of a project that photographed/videotaped the states highways every couple of years. This video now resides at The Washington State Archives who were kind enough to share it.

House of Kee, chinese restaurant. closed recently, after47 years. You can see the Pagoda-like roof over their sign at 2:16, right after the pedestrian standing on the right side shoulder.

Yup, it cost me $10 to fill my Plymouth Champ but ten bucks was a lot of money back then. I remember when cigarettes were 55 cents in a vending machine at the gas station. 1975😅

This was before south hill mall opened in 1988. Wild to see how much the lanscape changed around the area where Walmart and Bradley Lake Park are now.

Miss the old NW. Now, all that beautiful green land is replaced with overpriced cookie cutter houses and apartments. Sadly, the massive influx of out of state people moving up here at an alarming rate has ruined everything.

My new favorite channel, I loved the anti abortion sign 17:31----this was a better place then, I miss it dearly. The arco's became AM/PM arco, the only place i bought gas, and you'd see the tanker trucks always into the '90s. Thank G for 720p, it would have been great to read all the signs, oh well.
