These are so valuable to me, I love watching the ones you’ve posted. it’s interesting to see whats the same currently and what has changed. It’s kind of shocking to me how much IS the same, though I know a lot of people would disagree. Nonetheless It’s one more piece of learning the history around here and I bet whoever filmed these in the 80’s had no idea a young guy like me in 2022 would appreciate them so much. Again, thank you
It was nice to see Teo's Mia Roma again in Kenmore, where my family ate quite often when I was a kid. Some things are still on this route and it was fun to see the different signage for certain existing businesses. I forgot that there was a Pietro's Pizza (I think that is what the sign reads) in Kenmore at one time and now that building is actually Bothell Ski and Bike. Some of the signs are a little hard to read but all in all this was a great trip down memory lane.
2:05 - On the left: Cooper's Alehouse. In 1987 when this was recorded, Cooper's was one of a small number of taverns that carried the latest and greatest "microbrews" from Washington and Oregon. And in 1987 I could frequently be found inside Cooper's with a pint.
Gone are the days you can cruise down 522 on a Thursday afternoon and roads are pretty much bare. Also I can’t get over how much Kenmore has changed. Now the videos I’m waiting for from the era are of Clark and Cowlitz counties.
This is fantastic! Thank you for posting. By any chance, do you have the rest of it? It cut off just after Hwy 9 but I'd love to see it all the way to Monroe - I drive that stretch all the time as I live outside Monroe.
Love these things, they're great if it's somewhere you frequented back in the day. No doubt the closest thing we'll ever have to a time machine. I wonder if the green VW bus about 4 minutes in was our neighbor there in lovely Lake City.
I'd love to see the rest of 522 towards Monroe if it's available. Any chance you have highway 9 between Woodinville and Snohomish? Thank you so much for sharing these videos!
Same here, I have asked a couple times but no answer. I do know, what they have is what's given to them from the Archives. If they receive more, they will upload it (I hope)... So cool to see Woodinville area
Whoops, my apologies! I have that route marked as one of interest for future uploads. At some point I believe the State Archives will start uploading these videos to their own website but I'm not sure when that process may begin. I am planning to reach out soon and see if they have interest in sending anymore after I finish with these videos.
I drove this a thousand times growing up and into my 20's (around the time of this film). It's still blows my mind that there is this HUGE lake immediately to the right for most of this route and you barely know it's there.
That took a long time.. people who lived in those places did not want the bus coming there because of traffic and other reasons, so they would vote no. There are still places in Snohomish County where people have signs, No Bus, No Annex. Luckily, they put in the Burke Gilman Trail, people could walk or ride bikes to places around Lake Washington.
You're quite right. I lived just off Lake City Way, close to the Fred Meyer store at NE 130th from 1992 to 1998. I wouldn't live there now. it's no longer safe. Plus, like you pointed out, the traffic is much worse.
1987 was the year my parents moved into my childhood house. 8:16 - It is way cool to know that the Fred Meyer on Lake City Way exists in 1987 and still does today in 2024. 10:04 - The Taco Bell on Bothell Way NE and NE 145th Street existed in 1987 and still does today in 2024. 10:10 - The ShowGirls existed in 1987 and still exists today in 2024. 11:02 - The Sheridan Market existed in 1987 and it still exists today in 2024.
Fred Meyer was called Marketime in the 70s. If you look closely Fred Meyer is actually two separate stores on opposite sides of 130th. There's the main store on the south side and the later added home improvement center on the north side. Not too long after this video the main store closed down and the home improvement center became the main location as it is today. They added a second floor in the early 90s so you could access it from 35th as well. I lived a couple blocks from this location as a kid. And I remember that piano store next door as well!
Married in Tacoma 1981 Got divorced in 91 then moved back to North Seattle and settled down in Kenmore 14years in a mobile park right off the slue...best years of my life!!! Wouldn't go back to that rotten infested area for a million bux!!!!!😖😖😖
