I can’t wait to see that JT in action!! And being from NY im am super excited to see how everyone handles the kind of trails we have. 🤞 hope you didn’t get any body damage. There’s a reason why you see a lot of built up cheap Jeeps on our north east trails. Keep up the awesome work. I really appreciate everything you do for the Jeep community!
Toll roads were the worst part about driving across country. Being from Nevada as well, we had never experienced toll roads. Talk about highway robbery! Some of the worst roads I have ever driven on I had to pay to drive on...🤦🏼♂️
The worst thing about flying into Chicago is dealing with all their toll roads. One time after being home for about 4 weeks I get a ticket in the mail. I got stuck in the wrong lane and went through the toll booth and did not have one of those doohickies in the rental car that pays for the toll.
That's a long haul!! Looking forward to the next video, and I must say your video and edit quality is one of the best on youtube. And I watch a ton of channels! as I like everything from off-road to rc cars to car channels, everything with wheels really and then some.
Hope you end up in some Virginia Red clay in amongst the trees this provides westerners a small learning curve. Not to mentionTennessee and Kentucky. Good luck
Love it, "What the Hell's this guy from Nevada Doing". Yes, when you're from the east side of the country you get an EZ-Pass. But I can relate to the joy's of driving cross country from our trip west to Moab for this year's Easter Jeep Safari (we met you guys at Dixie 4x4). Safe Travels and God Bless!
@@wayalife yes, Moab was awesome. We also meet up with Brad and his buddy Marco from Trail Recon and Fred from Dirt Everyday. Pretty cool. Of course the trails there are spectacular. We also met David Adams one of the finalist on Truck Night in America. Won't make it back to EJS in 2020, but we will make it back. Too awesome to not go back.
Smarter Than You YES. IT was even pumpkin flavored. The spouse went on a pumpkin fit and there’s still pumpkin scones to devour. Hopefully next video released here I’ll be dipping that in my coffee. Lol
Hey, just curious are you 100% sure the tazer is correcting your miles and not just the mph calculation? I ask because I think I remember you saying your JL went down to 15 on 37s, and it seems like everyone is getting the tazer at the same time as 37s or bigger. I have the manual so haven’t gotten it yet and running 37s on Hutchison rock monsters and 2.5 lift getting 15.5 if I’m nice but usually 15, which calculates to around 17mpg.
Absolutely love cross country trips! I know you guys are doing it quick; but still there is just something about driving across the US. And not to mention in one bad ass rig!! Love your videos guys! ❤️🐞
are you skipping the 500mi diff oil change then? i've always been under the impression with ANY new gear set you replace the gear oil after about 500 mi to get rid of any metal shavings from the gears meshing together...
Seriously? People are wondering about MPG on a fully mod'd JT with 40's? This my friends is NOT a Prius & not meant to be. Enjoy your Bad Ass rig & pay the minor price of being cool to the max! 😎
Wayalife even tho I completely agree with this even on my 33s. If I’m going 85mpg in my Dodge Ram 1500 I only get 15mpg. The only way to improve fuel economy for me would be to have a lower gear ratio and to not exceed 70mph. The same would be for the Jeep. Putting in a v8 would not help. A diesel would however.
So be honest, you haven't watched too many of our videos. You know, the ones where we show ALL our breaks and how we fix them on the trail or in a parking lot.
LOL - well sure, some of it can be written off but it doesn't make it free or anything. I still have to front the money and all it really means is that I can pay less taxes.
Wayalife right off course but as an established company with multiple vehicles you use for your business you can afford to front your expenses through the business financial accounts and then come tax season you can write off up to 90% depending on how often the vehicle is used personally. If you use it strictly for RU-vid (a business) and nothing else then you can write off everything to do with that vehicle 😎
LOL - so I've been told a few times now. Sorry about that. I'm from Nevada and don't know much about your neck of the woods. We did spend MOST of our time to the north and New York was just the starting point.
Dang i wish my dad could be like edd cause i have some big dreams of lifting and off-roading a truck and welp we have a Jeep Gladiator.....but no money, but understand my parents situation but one day ill get a job and rack up enough money and have a great time with my dad in our Jeep Gladiator Rubicon that i call Ruby and btw The truck color is Sting Gray and i love it man but yeah hope i can achieve the dream of putting a lift kit and if not put in a long arm kit and slap on some 37's and have a great time with my dad
Wow, what a trip. I can’t wait and being a Wayalifer and catching a glimpse from the forum, this should be another epic adventure. You guys rock and your videos are the best out there. Thanks for sharing👍👍👍🇺🇸
We have a jeep wrangler Rubicon jk 4door lifted on 40 tires Dana 60 floating axels front and rear lockers hemi engine and 8 speed automatic transmission. We get between 12 to 13 miles per gallon at 75 to 85 mph here in texas.and across country trips unless we hit a bunch of head wind.no vibrations or wobbling either.
UGH. I HATE toll roads!! So inconvenient. You got lucky, seems like everytime I encounter them I get the “EZ PASS ONLY” section and there’s never an option for a CC... and I NEVER have cash. Wish the world would update the technological capabilities... let me do Apple Pay everywhere.
Honestly, it rides amazing. As you can see, that was doing 80+ mph and driving one handed. Couldn't have done this long drive with anything less or at least, not without getting beat up.
That toll road is crazy. We have many here in Texas but most are on video that scans you license plate then mails you a bill. The rest have an attendant that, again, will bill ya by mail. Last time I was through the Ohio, Illinois, Indiana area, I managed to avoid the tolls.
I agree with your "I am liking the 3.6 w/8spd combo" comment. With as much power engines are making these days... that thing is making the same amount of HP as big block V8s used to. Less torque though but with a better curve. Here is what helps that out though... you have the 8spd gearbox! It is a torque multiplier. I have a 3.6 w/8spd in my Chevy Colorado and it has been nothing short of AMAZING. I would not mind a re-gear though. Not because it is lacking power for towing or anything... but because it will take strain off of the ENTIRE drive train and make it last longer. I want to keep this puppy for at least 250k miles. Ergonomically it has been my most favorite vehicle I have ever owned.
Glad you made it safely. Thanks for stopping to get some rest! Cool “homecoming”! Our stock JL is nowhere as cool, or capable, but, we rarely let a week go by without taking the “Gray Panzer” up into our mountains. Our version of “Old Folks Boogie!” - stay safe, and Thank You - great stuff
Epic road trip! Welcome to Indiana! The toll road isn't too far from me! I'll admit I did chuckle at the toll both struggles! Haha! Can't wait for the next video of the wheeling!
YJ's are nice and it seems like most of the serious wheelers in your neck of the woods drive them or the like. Not too many newer Jeeps out on the trails.
Do you have a build sheet for your build with regards to your suspension, wheels, tire offset, driveshaft/drivetrain changes? Thank You!~. Great Build! - I want 40's but I want it done properly like yours.
Please check out our main channel page and you'll see that we have a series on our build. Suspension is EVO long arm with DTD, wheels are KMC Machetes with 3.5" of back spacing, tires are Nitto Trail Grapplers, axles are Dana Ultimate UD60's and drive shafts are JE Reel.
If you’re hungry and drive by New York City say so in your videos and I’ll bring you some of my Mother’s great Italian spaghetti and meatballs or anything you want. She’s a wonderful cook and would love to make you anything!!!!!
Great video of your journey. One thing I have always liked about you and your videos is you stay humble and the quality is excellent. Yes You make upgrades to your Jeeps that most of us can’t afford but you are humble about it and are not flashily like look what I have now. That is refreshing as I have dropped so many channels because they have become all about look what I have and can buy. Good channels should be about content and quality and not showing off. You have that and then some. Thanks Eddie and Cindy. I look forward to all your videos.
Wow what an adventure, if you need a 100,000 dollar "Jeep" to have a trip there may be an issue. Get in an old cj and do an adventure. That adventure will be a real long lasting memory. No cruise control no A/c etc.
Wow, what a road trip. Sorry, I had to laugh over the EZ Pass. If you have a transponder, there typically is either a special lane or you can drive right through the toll booth (at a safe speed) without having to stop and play the ticket game. The money is debited out of your account, and typically you are charged less than someone paying cash with a ticket.
I think I may have caught some of the Lobster 🦞 Quest group inadvertently at the Tom Edison rest area Saturday morning August 28th around 8 am ish. Lots of cool jeeps 🚙. Anyhoo we shall see! Great Video!
Stop at a grocery store man on the toll road and get yourself an ez pass. So much easier. Works all over the NE as well. Cheaper tolls too. I have one I bring to the NE when I travel.
I can't wait to see if people like the Diesel, I thought the I pass you can drive through and just pay online up to 12 days later via your license plate.
Originally, we were hoping to post up where we would be just so that we could meet people like you but things came up and we got a late start. Once we were on the road, it was a mad dash to the east.
We can see that around the 5:00 minute mark, you are doing 3,300 rpm at 83 mph and, shortly thereafter, 3,900-4,000 rpm as the tranny downshifts at essentially the same vehicle speed. The 3.6L, with its hp rating, needs this rotational velocity to maintain the heavy JT at that speed. A Gen 5 non-blown LT (like an LT1) coupled to a 8L90 can easily push your vehicle down the road at, say, 70 mph at 1,800-2,200 rpm and deliver improved mpg in the process. I also note the ambient temp at 39 degrees F is doubtless delivering pretty high Manifold Air Density. I suspect the wind, as is typical at that latitude in Wyoming, is from the West, aiding your speed and relieving your engine a bit. Your gearing is probably right for your 3.6. 5.13 gears would probably suffice if you had an LT. With the V8, you will have better low end torque, won’t need to wind out the engine at high highway speeds, and will get significantly improved gas mileage, not only because of the characteristics of the engine itself, but because the engine will allow you to change out the gears. Great machine, great build, terrible mileage. I predict you’ll have a different power unit by next summer.
LOL - you're talking to a guy who has an LS in his JK. That said, I get what you're trying to say but the shifting you're seeing is from the fact that we were in Wyoming as in, there are hills. Some big but a lot are small. If I drove slower, my mpg was a lot better. Sure, mpg can be a bit better with a V8 but it's just a bit or at least, from what I have personally seen. The benefit of NOT going V8 is that I don't have any of the overheating or programming issues that are common with them. Of course, I may still do it by next year just has you say - who knows :)
Wayalife All good, Eddie. Unless I’m mistaken, your LS in Moby doesn’t have continuously variable valve timing, but I may be wrong. The General has improved engine efficiencies in its Gen 5 motors and improved transmission mapping. Also, the programming issues you experience in Moby (great video, by the way, of you guys in the Inyo Mountains near Saline Valley - I first drove the Inyo range 50 years ago in a CJ5) may be due to not having separate management units for the vehicle itself (the JK) and the engine (the LS) - again, I’m not sure of your set-up there. One thing I do know is having more than 50% of rated torque available at a ridiculously low 500-700 rpm in the new LT engines is hard to ignore. Be safe back East and keep the camera “rolling”!
What Size of Gas cans are those on the rack? sorry I am new to the Jeep family and I am looking into doing plenty of upgrades. I have the 2020 Gladiator Rubicon, I am sure its the exact same XD mine doesn't have the Red dash though, but does have red accent stitching all over the inside. Thank you in advance
love to see the vlog environment. loving to see how well the 3.6 is doing with everything else for highway use. also love hearing the tires dont need balancing, i agree with this!
Awesome video and great choice for getting a Rubicon I agree with you. You still get the Rubicon Goodies with it rather than having to go after market. I’m still waiting to see how the reviews on the diesel go but still want a Rubicon Edition.
Wayalife you do your thing and what you want. People online tend to have elitist attitudes and when it’s all said and done it’s about what you want not somebody else. It’s your money and by now you know what’s right for you.
Very cool Truck, not counting the cost of the stock vehicle how much was all the upgrades cost in total? if you don't mind me asking....Thanx Toledo, Ohio...I hope you stopped at Tony Packos restaurant !!
I really like your videos & the Gladiator is sick! 👍🏻 It would be helpful to have stared this video with something like “we are in Carson City _______ & we’re going to the JX/JT.... in CITY, STATE. This event is all about _______”. Just a suggestion for future videos. Thanks
That was hilarious 😂🤣😂 I suggest you get an EZ Pass if you guys are planning on doing these trips often 🤙🏼and it will cut down on those dangerous crossovers 😫 I heard a driver plow his air horn and we sometimes haul pretty heavy. Be Safe And Be Blessed 🙏
LOL - I'm sure it'd be real helpful to have, that and know what you're doing. For better or for worse, I can't see us heading out that way again anytime soon.
10-4 😁🤙🏼 Roger That 🤙🏼🤙🏼 I live on the East Coast and sometimes can't stand it, but can't take the quietness either, so I guess I'm stuck here 😜 Maybe one day I'll visit the West. Would love to do the Rubicon one day 💪🏼 That's one of the trails on my 🗑📋 I know that's a trash can. It was the closest I can find to a bucket 😫 Don't judge me 😂🤣😂
LOL, I can't believe you were trying to insert your cash into the slot for the credit card. you should have looked up, there is what looked like a cash slot was at eye level above you...
Sorry wayalife, the video doesn't show exactly where you're trying to put the money but your eyes look like they are focused down. The cash slot is most certainly just above eye level... I only bring this up bc I love your content but have witnessed you get a little defensive in comments... in this case I have to agree with original post... it's okay, like you said, you aren't familiar wwith tells and were probably feeling pressed bc of the line forming behind you. Stay humble. We all make mistakes and should be able to laugh at ourselves.. now maybe you were just looking down but were actually trying the slot at the top... in which case there is video evidence that just did not make final edit 🤷♂️
@@wayalife no worries, keep making great videos and all is forgiven! Would be cool to wheel with you in Maine sometime if a big event ever came this far east.
