Take a good look at 29:00, I thought he was going to bite you then. His ears were fully pinned back and walking relatively fast at you. That was his (their) signal. When ever you see horses, burros, donkeys, mules and some dogs (german shepherds, etc.) with ears pinned just back off and watch out. BTW, I've had as many as 60 horses at one time. That's what happens with the wild ones.
Fun leg of Route 66 😎 To answer your question 🙋♂️ the cars had gravity fed gas tanks and if you were low on fuel it would flow to the back of the tank and the engine would run dry
I'm watching this a 2nd time, I'm finally making my video about my trip there (I already commented below last year) and I just kinda wanted a revamp of the trip...but I just gotta say...my cat is literally sitting here watching it with me and when Glen got out to stop when the burros were in the road my cat was absolutely MESMERIZED! haha! He didn't know WHAT those were! I told him what they were and he just looked at me and looked back at them lol...funniest thing I've seen today...and way cute!
Looking forward to a video on Olive Oatman, her story has always called to me. Glad you weren't hurt badly! The shock was maybe the worst of it?!! Yes too many people milling around in Oatman, like you i prefer the hinterlands!
Oatman has always been one of my favorite Route 66 stops. When I was a kid we had some family that lived in Kingman so every time we visited we ended up in Oatman and it looks the same now as it did then.
I don't doubt that it will look the same in decades to come as well. 😅 It's a really cool little place. In many ways similar to Tombstone and in so many ways completely different. Seligman is another of our favorite stops too.
Any of them could bite or kick. They are wild. If their ears are pinned back they’re angry. Great job on the video. I want to check it out. I hope you’re all healed.
Early automobiles had gas tanks between placed between the front seat and the engine so gravity was great for getting gasoline to the old carburetors of that time.
Wow you caught some rare trains! In your train shot in Kingman!! The last two engines still have the classic Santa Fe Warbonnet paint scheme. Kingman has a beautiful old Mission Revival style train station building. Built back in 1907 by the Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railway! That sidewinder drive is beautiful! The burros are adorable! What a great adventure.
I made the mistake on my first journey along a segment of rte 66 of not STOPPING in Oatman! I drove through it but it was summer and so hot out plus I was kind've trying to make it to Flagstaff before dark. It's such a cute place....I definitely will go there again and then up to Kingman again....loved that drive but it did scare me a little after Oatman and once I was down the mountain area...took so long to get back to the freeway! I thought google might have been wrong!
Yeah, stopping to do anything in Arizona during the heat of summer can just be draining and zap a bit of fun out of exploring. I don't blame you one bit. Hopefully the next time you pass through, you're able to stop and the weather will be nicer. 😄
They are cute, aren't they? Not as polite as some we've seen in the past 😅 but one still can't help but feel it necessary to give them a treat or two. 😊
😂 I THINK I might have done it once before but man .. I could make an entire reel of bleeping just from some of the GoPro footage while driving. Both of us are guilty there. 😅
Aww! That sounds awesome! I imagine they make lovely companions when gentle. Thankfully the bite proved to be nothing major. Mostly just shock and a bit of soreness. 😄
I haven’t taken that road from east to west. Always west to east. We found out last time that the donkeys don’t like dogs. One burro attacked our dog when we got too close. It tried to kick our small dog.
@@CactusAtlas In Oatman. It was a slow day. Not many people. After the attack a shop owner told us to keep our dog away from the donkeys. They don’t like dogs. My wife had never been to Oatman before.
Oatman is a fantastic day trip but…make no mistake, the burro’s are pushy and can and will bite. I took my mom several years ago and when we ran out of biscuits, one bit her arm. I believe it was food aggression and because several were crowding around it just happened. Worth the trip just be careful when feeding them. The people in the town are so kind.
OUCH!!!! Dad gummit, Glenn! Did nobody told ya that them there jackasses are there to take a big ol' hunk out of any tourists who mispronounce "Route 66"??? 🤣 I'm still trying to catch up with all your back vids! This was fun, for US VIEWERS! Glad he didn't break the skin! I def knew when he came at your camera with his ears back, he was NOT happy being filmed!😵😠
Lol. Take it from an old horseman: That's what happens when you feed feral equines. I don't like hand feeding even trained equines because they can get pushy & obnoxious with even experienced handlers.
Yeeaaah, lesson definitely learned. I guess that's what you get when you have two people with soft hearts for animals and a hate of wasting money/food. 😅
Please don’t feed the Burros on the road because they will get hit by car! Only in Oatman and you can buy appropriate health food for them. They drove backwards before gas pumps and the gas was gravity fed and if the tank wasn’t full it ran out so they drove backwards to fix that. I love Oatman and I’m trying to persuade my wife we need to move to Golden Valley but she doesn’t want to leave her kids behind 🤷♂️
Donkey is the original animal. Burro is merely Spanish for donkey. A mule is a cross between a donkey and a horse. Carrots work well for horses, probably for donkeys, too. The carrots give you a "safe " handle to hang onto while you feed them. I had a woman give me crap for feeding carrots to the donkeys, but they are good for them, according to info on google.
