As a Ford mechanic when these were new, I always replaced the stator in the distributor along with the tfi module. One went bad the other is soon to follow. Easy job, just mark the rotor, pull the distributor, knock out the gear pin, pull the gear off, replace the stator, repeat, and good to go for another 50,000 miles. Trust me, you want to replace stator.
@gadget73
@gadget73 Год назад
the other annoying thing, they can have similar symptoms so a dead stator could be diagnosed as a TFI or vise-versa. Change both, done. I do wish Ford stators didn't need the distributor taken apart to change the stator though, makes road-side swapping a bit less practical.

Ford got sued over the bad design of having the distributor placed right by the coolant pipes. Their "fix" is to put a heat shield on it

I can 100% agree with you, I just went through this whole fiasco with my 89 f150, I feel sorry for the previous owner because they through the entire parts canon at it to no avail thus selling it dirt cheap, I get the truck see how it acts change the whole distributor and that wonderful module bolted to it and surprise surprise truck runs perfect now.
@gadget73

@@19explorersport96 my previous 91 Mark VII died on me while driving. No spark. Thought it was TFI, called a friend and he brought me a spare distributor. Got home, went to spin mine and it was jammed. Magnet fell out of the stator causing the no spark. Rattling around in the trunk the magnet got jammed in something. Put it back together with a new stator and TFI, ran perfect until I wrecked the car.

I’m so happy that the kid was able to get a great deal on the Mustang and I think it’s really cool seeing you help him out with fixing some of its issues and teaching him some things along the way.It may not seem like a big deal to some people,but they don’t realize that just by you taking a little bit of your time to help someone else out is sometimes enough to help push that person in a direction that they might have never thought they would be able to do before and I think the world could definitely use more people like yourself.

Good job guys. Next i would remove the rubber on the shifter stick and replace with washers. Then get a brass shifter ball cup. That would improve the feel of your shifts. Replace the steering shaft with a borges unit that gets rid of the rag joint, upgrade the clutch quadrant with a 2 position aluminum quadrant, adjustable clutch cable and sub-frame connectors. That would be a good start to improving the feel of the car. 💪

I'm loving this series! I have an 88 GT that I built in high school (25 years ago). I went through this same fuel system replacement scenario a few years ago. Parts are cheap and easy to find. One of the most impressive things, that you found tires for it! I'm in the middle of a 5 lug conversion because the 15" turbine wheels are nearly impossible to find performance tires for. I'm going to have 2003 brakes, 2003 cobra 17"s with 245/45r17s in the front and 275/40r17s in the back. I just got the wheels back from powder coat. They are 17x9 front and 17x10.5 rear.

I had a 97 Chevy Blazer and was on a road trip from Philadelphia, to NY, and while on the turnpike doing about 80, I started to loose power, in fact, the harder you hit the pedal the more power you would loose, and the check engine light came on and flashing. while driving I grabbed my trusty OBD-II scanner and managed to get it plugged in. and started to pull the codes, at this point I'm now doing about 50, and still slowing, and decided to reset the codes and see if it helps, well it did, and the truck came back to normal and didn't have the issues the rest of the trip

This series makes me miss my old fox body. In high school I had the same exact car down to the color but no T tops. I bought it from a Mexican mechanic who was getting deported. He had added a secondary in line fuel pump, added a fancy ignition along with some other bits. The most obvious was it had no cats or mufflers. I think it had a cam but I can't confirm that. I used to take it to the drag strip on weekends, raced anything at a red light and basically tokyo drift every corner in 2nd gear. Man that car was a total vibe. The dirty interior had been stripped out, it would shake vigorously at a stop and smelled like fuel. It didn't have a radio because it was so loud you couldn't barely hold a conversation in there. My friends and I hit it a few times on the wall and I hit a tree on the street. Lol. It went thru some fenders and bumpers but the engine and trans we're the real MVPs, they asked for nothing. In the end I was convinced it was just an expensive hobby for me at the time. I do regret letting that car go. I'm excited to see how this turns out.

$200 fuel tank is awesome, I look fwd to Sundays every week for another Alex adventure! Peter has turned into the ultimate sidekick, seems like such a cool guy to be around. I run a contracting business (concrete treatments and waterproofing), I also have a car buying company. Long story short I was at the doctor the other day and she was explaining to me that she had car issues, her engine was kaput! Skoda Superb Wagon 1.8tsi (like a long wheel base VW passat) she had bought it new. Mechanic told her the motor had skipped timing and essentially blown up, $10,000 for a new engine. Skoda sat at the mechanic with no plan, 1 owner 160,000km car. Owner asked me if I wanted it, I said why not, paid her and got it towed to my warehouse. I was planning on stripping it for parts. One of my waterproofing applicators is a mechanic from a former life and took a look under the bonnet, timing cover was still on etc, only thing missing were the oily plugs. Engine oil was also over filled by 4 litres (fouling the plugs)....you can guess what happened next. New plugs, drained some of the oil and it started right up. Thing drives beautifully. Sometimes you can't see the forrest for the trees!

Man this brings back memories! I had an 89 Fox Body 5.0 LX! It was built though! It had a cam, headers, straight cat back exhaust, cold air intake & a B&M slap shifter. She was fun to drive!

Not a mustang guy, but I like this series. It's so clean underneath, I really hope it is kept in a garage for the winter months, or it will rust out in no time.

Really enjoying this series and looking forward to seeing what's under all that dirt. Your videos are just getting better and better. Also, what was the rust converter you used, I could really use that at the moment

Man such a joy seeing such scary failures being fixed affordability by finding the actual culprit. Most of us will be death in the water accepting our fade with the shop’s recommendations for a new engine. You definitely give hope to the car world !!! Great series saying that as a corvette guy😂

Past 2 videos I’ve thought “nice, finally get to see what that paint is lookin like, and how far a resto detail will take this thing.” But sadly, nope haha then the ending was such a tease 😂😩 I already know this foxbody is going to make such a massive turnaround after that initial scrub clean/sand/buff/&polish

Love the look and sound of a foxbody..been a fan of the exhaust..but doubtful to own one..but its pretty wild how you've already done so much and made it all look too too easy..good luck hero and wishing success and will wait to see how she turns out
