I got an opportunity to drive from Madurai to Mysore and it became one of my best travel memories ,enjoying each moment of it. As I was embarking on the journey, one of my friend advised me to to route through Annaikatti instead of straight forward route through Highway.
So , here down below i got some details about Anaikatti.
Anaikatti, meaning a group of elephants, offers you to experience the natural beauty of the Western Ghats. The village is also home to the Siruvani river, which UNESCO has certified to have the second sweetest water in the world. You can embark on a night safari through Anaikatti forest where animals like elephants, mongooses and the Indian bison can be spotted. It is advisable to maintain silence during the trip as the sound may disturb the animals. Also, during the day, you can enjoy the beauty of rainforests. The silent valley national park in the village is one of the last explored rainforests in the country. It also has a mythological connection as it is believed that Pandavas during their exile had visited the forest and it is also known by the name Sairandhri Vanam, another name of Draupadi and the river nearby is called Kunthipuzha, named after Kunthi.
Obviously, the above input was not known fully to me except that anai implies Elephant. Passing through the hairpin bends which were 27 in total was again and exhilarating and challenging feeling. Though I have done 52 hairpin bends road of Zuluk Road ( an ancient silk route)in East Sikkim which lies at an altitude of 9,000 to 11,000 feet.
Another, landmark which I liked was Bhavanisagar reservoir dam.Bhavanisagar Dam or Lower Bhavani Dam, is located in Erode District, Tamilnadu, India. The dam is constructed on the Bhavani River. It is one of the world's largest Earthen Dams. The Lower Bhavani Project was the first major irrigation project initiated in India, after independence, in 1948. It was completed by 1955 and opened for use in 1956. The dam was constructed at a cost of ₹210 million.
As I neared Mysore I found this resturant Macaw which had a great ambience and food where I had my pit stop .
thereafter I reached my destination Radisson Blu mysore
Hope you like my attempt to capture my car travel ....
