Inglewood is a city in southwestern Los Angeles County, California, in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. It was incorporated on February 14, 1908. The city is in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County and the city is near Los Angeles International Airport. The neighboring communities are Athens, Chesterfield Square, Gramercy Park, Hawthorne, Hyde Park, Ladera Heights, Lennox, Manchester Square, View Park-Windsor Hills, Westchester and Westmont.
Downtown Inglewood, once the heart of the City and commercial center of activity for the community, is now actively in the process of returning to its former self. The City recently adopted a transit oriented development (TOD) plan for the neighborhood which modified zoning and parking regulations to encourage the construction of new pedestrian-friendly and economically robust mixed-use development. The plan focuses on transforming Downtown Inglewood into a pedestrian friendly hub for diners and shoppers. As part of this effort, the City has also awarded developer Thomas Safran & Associates the rights to construct a new mixed-use retail and residential development at the southeast corner of Florence and La Brea Avenues. The City is also partnering with the Los Angeles Philharmonic to relocate their Youth Orchestra of LA (YOLA) headquarters to the corner of Manchester Boulevard and La Brea Avenue, designed by world renowned architect Frank Gehry.

Mid 1950's Inglewood kid, nice to see some of the old buildings are still up. The blue and White striped building was a J.C. Penny and the building on the corner was a bank, I went to a meeting with my mom and brother there when I was maybe 5. It was about Civil Defense, the meeting was held in the bomb shelter. I hope they are saving the interior of the old Fox theater. One of those ornate 20's or 30's "movie palaces." Glad you showed a bit of Centinela Park, right turn, left turn, the commercial building on the right was where I had my first job. H. Salt Esquire, Fish and Chips. CIty Hall still looks pretty modern though it was built in the early 70's. Used to hang on in the park on Grevilla in front of the high school. War monument is still there. Beyond that used to be (I believe) a Carnegie library building, which obviously was torn down to make room for the parking lot... Such a loss. Great town to grow up in.

I lived in Inglewood from 1963-1967, during the summer, I used hang out downtown, meet with my friends & just be teens. We’d drink sodas at Woolworths, or go to one of the theaters downtown, or hang on the corner by the Save-On drug store. I watched this video to relive some of my wayward youth, but of course after 57 years there is absolutely nothing I recognize.

Inglewood will look a lot different with the Crenshaw train Line at La Brea & Florence connecting to the Airport, SoFi Stadium, the Kia Forum & the new Clippers arena on Century & Prairie next year.
