This happened by my house. An 18 year old girl hit a Freightliner left front to left front. It sheired the left side of the car off and ripped her out of the car. She was wearing her seatbelt but it didn't matter. The impact severed her left arm and took off part of her head. Now all that is left of her, is a memorial of flowers and teddy bears on the side of the road.
It cannot be said better than that.... This video PSA should be shown on TV here in the USA, not just Great Britain. Thanks for posting the whole PSA. I had only seen bits of it on the news here.
omfg.... i just watched this and i bought my first car the other day, my phone will definetely be on silent while im driving.... this ad definetely worked on me, it even made me tear up cause it shocked me so much.
great example of what has happened where I live and a great reason to have extremely high fines or loss of driving privilege if caught "texting" or talking on a cell phone while driving.
As a former Police officer, I can tell you that this video is the most realistic of what happens in a crash. I have personally witnessed scenes like this, and if is terrible. Hopefully people will watch and learn.
This is a GREAT MESSAGE! Obviously the little fine and ticket that you can recieve by doing this is not phasing anyone. This video surpasses the ignorance of teen and older texting drivers and implants a message of the consequences into thier head.
I'm very proud of my 17 yr old daughter, she won't answer the phone at all when she's driving, I know for a fact because I've tried to call her when I've sent her to the store and she'll call me back when she gets there. Thank god she listened to something I said. Plus she watched videos in Drivers Ed before she got her drivers license and it really shook her up. I've almost been in wrecks before because of fools texting. Unfortunately it's not banned in my state yet.
Some of my tips for good driving Awareness - always look at the road the signs the traffic lights and the rear view and side view mirrors of your car. Concentration - keeping focus on what is going on and what is going to happen. Confidence - dont panic if you've done something wrong like missing a turn or an exit just go to the next turn or safely try to go back if possible. Anticipation - think what can possibly happen so you'll be prepared.
Congratulations to the British Government for having the balls to put together this ad. If it saves just one life it is worth it no matter how graphic; life is graphic and so is death.
Watching this film should be mandatory for all drivers, not just texting but makeup queens, radio kings, foodaholics, reading fools, writing jesters, new and current drivers...
i like how the girl has to live with what she has done, and she'll either have to admit what happened, or live with a lie since there are no witnesses.
My friend wasn't texting but he was answering a call on his phone,& in that split second,he swerved the steering wheel, hit the car next to him at speed,&spun out of control.Multiple collisions occurred one person died from the horrible accident. My friend is too distraught to get in a car,let alone drive.& is now in depression This is a good lesson to anyone.Unfortunately it takes an accident such as this before ppl learn not to do stupid things like using a phone whilst driving Just dont do it
The really sad thing is that in real life these girls lost three friends in a crash due to inattention two years ago. The teenage male driver survived.
This is the sad and depressing truth about text-driving ... yet it is depressing to find some CHILDREN laughing and LOLing at this video. It is apparent that they still think they're invincible, and everything happens to everyone else but them. This ad should be played everyday, in every country.
Teens really need to see this. Now a days, some teens just think that life is a game and that it can't happen to them. Newsflash:This is the real world, not some Hollywood Studio. I hope it does air here in the U.S.
Im a bit older than these girls, with 3 kids (all under 5), and seeing the baby like that made me fell sick. Shame it doesnt affect most of the young ones that you see doing this everyday on the way to work.
Omg that made me cry alittle. Very graphic and people have to make it like that to open peoples eyes!! I don't text or even talk on the phone while driving, and alot of stupid teenagers think they are invincible, so they do whatever they want.
Atleast they gave it a shot. And I think they did a pretty good job, it was very convincing. Believe or not, there are people out there that needs to be reminded not to be stupid.
So many times people need to show that using a cell while driving is bad. But no one around here remembers. It's as if the car = office to most people. Office= gotta use the phone
I'm 19 and I text all the time. But it pisses me off when I see people texting/talking while driving. Not only does their driving suck even more, but they aren't focusing on something that has the power to kill.
i cant believe half these comments. its not over exaggerated, this happens. and it wont stop because people are selfish. its alright saying 'oh i dont text while driving anyway' its everyone else out there who does who can become involved. adverts like this are needed to shock those immature people out there, and im guessing its mostly teenagers.
The red car swerved to avoid the blue car (0:06 and 0:39) that overshot and was coming straight at him. Three counts of negligence here: Cassie texting, Jules not wearing belt, and blue car driving too close or not looking.
IIRC, the Ka has a push-button volume control. The music gets louder after the first impact, and stops immediately on the second. One of the girls may have hit the radio during the collisions.
In the first collision, someone flails against the radio volume control, turning it up. The second collision breaks the connection and the radio goes off.
The driver of the red Fiesta was trying to avoid the blue car that was too close to the back of the Mondeo and swerved into his path. See that car stop at 0:38. He hoped to get through the gap, but couldn't. He braked hard, skidded and hit the Ka. The pattern is probably that a Ford dealer supplied the cars at a reasonable price, or perhaps they were a job lot of ex-fleet cars. In any case, there are a lot of Fords on the road. They tend to last well these days.
Its pathetic how comfortable we get when nothing happens to us and we get an "it wont happen to me" attitude or just completely FORGET the risk. I'm a firefighter/emergency medical responder, THIS HAPPENS IN REAL LIFE. I still have nightmares from car crashes where i went to where people died and the ones at fault lived. We were watching this at the station and someone said the girl driver was lucky to live. But is she really? Would you want to live with all those deaths on your conscious?
This looks like some of Michael Bay's early student film work. I like how they're cruising along at like 40mph and then when they crash it looks like they're doing 837 million miles per second. I would also add more to the crash, like a school-bus full of nuns, a semi-truck full of liquid nitrogen, a submarine, and a train that falls out of the sky. And snipers in the rescue helicopters. and maybe Bruce Willis shows up and spits some witty lines at the end. Then the credits roll.
it should be graphic so people can understand the real possible trageties in driving while texting so if you flag this you won't let other people see the dangers of this movie should be for all teens!!!
The driver of the red car was trying to avoid the blue car coming straight at him. That car screeches to a halt at 0:38, having overshot the crash because it was too close behind the Mondeo. Red car man had nowhere to go but into the side of Cassie's Ka.
This Is the Best Thing I have Ever Seen. I Love It. I really Hope it opens Teens Eyes as it did mine. Obviously, this isnt real, there only actors, but its a real thing tht happens. the baby dead, is the most shocking
This is why here in the colonies we drive big, safe cars that weigh enough to keep us safe. At the end, they should have had a slogan: "The Labour Party, saving murderers one texter at a time." It is true, though, even someone under heavy influence(smashed, wasted, hammered) reacts faster.
It's about time they came out with a video like this. In fact, maybe we need an actual video which is even more graphic! I'm all out for getting through to people, that texting and driving will sooner or later=DEATH AND OR CRITICAL INJURY TO ALL INVOLVED!!!! Thats just the way it is!! Those who do it need to see a real accident and understand what it's all about. I WATCHED my dad killed by a drunk driver back in 1991! Killed instantly in another vehicle right in front of me and my wife.
A guy was driving the red Fiesta. Look at0:39 and you'll see why he was on the wrong side; the blue car screeching to a halt had been too close behind the Mondeo and had swerved around the wreck. With another car coming straight at him, the Fiesta driver had nowhere to go. It's all there if you look, but you seem to be about as observant as a texting teenager!
that's why you should always have the phone right in front of you and use your peripheral vision to see where you're going. and really, they should have those bumpy things between lanes so you know when you're crossing over into the other lane. that's what i call braille driving.
the truth is, don't drive tiny ass cars that fold up like an accordian...get an SUV with a big ass brush guard on the front and put yourself at the top of the food chain
this is really good even for being graphic and i've actually saw when something like this happen and if you thing that is over exaggerated i have seen worse and saying that it only happen to them since they're idiots it could happen to anyone we all make mistakes and texting makes it more likely.
The windows are down to poor continuity (they didn't have the use of the busy Tredegar Bypass for long), but the red Fiesta swerved to avoid the blue car that overshot the crash. You see that car stopping in the wrong lane with a screech of brakes at 0:39. The red Fiesta couldn't get through the gap, braked, and skidded into the Ka. Perhaps the film will be re-edited before it's shown on TV.
i watched this video on my iphone while driving on the highway, and no babies are dying my friends are all alive and i didnt need to be air lifted. both my parents can wake up. maybe next time i wont be so lucky. muahaha
As your example shows, sadly there are a great many people out there who DO need to be shown very clearly and in simple terms (or pictures) what the consequences of their ill thought out actions may be. All too tragic.
It's astounding to me that laws actually have to be written to try to keep people from distracting themselves when driving. There is just no more common sense, I guess.
I guess these posters on here do NOT get it. They think they are invinsible nowadays. Then go ahead and keep texting on your stupid cell phones (that we grew up LIVING without) and see what happens to you. Such a shame that some of YOU do NOT get it...........
please LADIES and gentlemen don't text, or better yet don't multi-task and drive.. I drive trucks and i can't even count the crash's i see every single day.
well first he put a "?" at the end like I was wrong, then he put "kid" on the end, implying that I'm immature and he's better than me. Perhaps I'm being to sensitive, but that's how I took it
Im driving home from wrk right now n just watchd this on my phone. Wow. Don't text whiel driving!!! Shout out to my peeps!!!! =D --sent from my crackberry device.
