Literally just thought about getting this and couldn't find a decent informative video until I came across yours, very easy to watch and answered all my questions well done bud. Great video and Subscribed.
Chris, Brilliant review you covered every aspect of this 522 Dash Cam. Only minor criticism if I may please, Night time filming demo quality would have nailed it. Appreciate your effort. Best Regards from UK
Your video is one of the clearest quality I've seen of the multitude of 522GW's I've watched! I have not seen one regarding in cab view at night and also have same question of can it be turned slightly to view cop at your window on traffic stop. Close to purchasing this one...
The rear camera which sticks to rear window has one minor fault the cable out rear is quite solid and can effect the position on magnetic mount.every time I unload from rear of my jeep I have to check the camera is still, pointing correctly that I did not accidently knock of the rear cable from the camera. Ithsr than that the rear window camera works well
Depends on you.. your vehicle your road quality. I have mine set on medium. Every speed bump triggers the g force sensor.. I drive a gen 3 jimny on uk roads
I was confused about your description of the picture in picture.. to change views of front to rear in main screen you just put your finger on the smaller screen and it automatically changes to the other view in main screen view
I'm in AZ myself, I dont think you have had it long enough to know this answer. How is this camera with our heat? I was told it's best to go with a capacitor style dash cam.
Adam Weatherbee just been watching another reviewer based in the US and he specifically mentioned how well the 522 handled the heat(I think he said 110 degrees). Here’s the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vfN0Hrt-eKw.html
No you can't wire all three camera to record. Camera only set up to take two inputs at once so you could technically wire three up but camera will only record and view from two. Some sort of micro switch on the USB into the camera feed might work but as mentioned you won't be able to record or stream from the three sources.
Hi Chris, lovely relaxed and informative video, many thanks! When I start up my car, do I have to press the record button each time or does the camera just start recording as I drive away? thanks, Tommy
Unfortunately for me my 522 does not recognise my Apple Mac laptop or my Nokia phone for bluetooth or wifi . Yes it is a nice 2 ch camera . I set the screen saver to MPH .
If each video is maximum 3min then how did you recorded such a long recoding. Because I just installed the 522 gw but I don’t know how to make long videos
Thank you....good review, i like it, and the cam....considering it. You mentioned how you stitch the video together piece by piece, would be great if u could do a tutorial on how....for dummies like me? I am looking for a camera to use for long scenic car drives.....which camera? All i get on internet is dash cameras. But as u pointed out, these run so many min at a time and you then have to stitch them up together. Surely there is a camera that does the job? Which camera, anyone please, ineed one asp....please someone advise. I had advise re action cameras, but it does not seem right....
You can run 3 minutes at a time, and they playback seamlessly. I used IMovie on my Mac for this video and if you load the clips in order and play it, it runs like one single movie.
Word of advice some who install a dash and switches off the speed setting can be considered suspicious by law inforcement should you ever submit your video as evidence and some insurance companies think the same..they can work both ways for you or against in an accident.
Excellent video. When the camera is recording on cabin view, is it also recording front and rear when both are connected, or only recording on the lens that is selected? Also, could the cabin view be turned to wards the driver side if yo were stopped and talking with a police officer?
Are you visible in the cab at night? Doesn't have to be perfect clarity, but can you distinguish what's happening inside at night especially with the driver?
The camera has 4 total options: forward, in cab, reverse from in the cab, and reverse from the rear window. You can only plug one additional module in at a time, so it records two simultaneously.
Hey! I'm looking into this, but I have one question: is it easy to hide the wires? I'm new to dashcams and don't really want a wire hanging down my windshield.
I don’t know of a Dashcam setup that is witless that has the functionality and clarity of the Nextbase system. Honestly, the tiny bit of wire from the headliner to the mounting base is obscured by the rear view mirror and is unnoticed. Depending on your car and mounting location, the wire can easily be hidden in the top, side or bottom of the dash.
2 questions: a) How is the night vision when recording videos? Is it quite clear? b) I heard that the cabin rear camera doesn't have infrared. How's the video at night? Thanks in advance!!
522w has enhance night vision software it light sensor reacts to ambient light outside streetlights moonlight there is no infra red..I have one it works well obviously in total darkness rear view will be close to nil a soon as any light source come the filter software picks it up thus you can see images
This is the cabin view module. There’s a rearview module that has more of a zoom all the way through the back window, and a true rear view that actually attaches to the back window and only shows what’s out the back.
Hey Chris, I have two issues with using the dashcam. Can you help? I’m unable to change the date. I can’t find the option to change the date within the dashcam. 2.The shadows of my dashboard keeps appearing in the videos. Although the videos provide clear views of the road, I can see items I’ve mounted on my dashboard that are reflected through the shadows that are seen in the videos
Ok I’ll try to answer everything. First, to change the date, touch the settings gear, then on the next screen tap “setup” and you will have the option for time/date. Second, I have a Jeep with a fairly straight up windshield. Yes, it makes a difference where it is mounted. The further down and toward the front, the less reflections but you see more of the good. I would just go and find a spot where the sun is reflecting the gear on your dash and expireiment with a few different spots. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer any more questions.
I can see that you are driving on the San Tan freeway. With that being said, how well does it work in the AZ heat? With this camera has a battery instead of a capacitor does it overheat on you? Any updates now that its been about 7 months?
I use it every day, and have had zero overheating issues. It’s been over 110° this week and it’s working great. All of our desert driving videos are filmed on it, and it hasn’t even hinted at failing. There’s been a few times that it was parked outside and probably gotten to 150° inside, and haven’t seen any issues.
The on board battery is tiny it's only real use is to save the last video and power down the camera. If you were to use it as its only power source it last about ten mins on 1080p 99 % of power to run and record is on external power source. Ie cigarette light plug or hardwire kit.
It does, but it just depends on the field of view you are looking for. Center and high is probably the best position, but with reflections from the dash, you can lower it a bit.
Ok until someone breaks your window and steals the camera because you won’t see the footage on your phone because it needs to be close to the phone to connect to the camera??
That is true, but no matter how secure you try to make something, of a thief wants it bad enough, it will get stolen. The primary function of this cam is security on the roads. The anti-tampering safety measures are a deterrent to crime, but obviously don’t make it crime-proof.
It really depends on what you use it for. On long trips I like having the rear view running just for safety recording, but on our adventures we usually run the cabin view for video commentary
You can use the rear view module in any direction you can point it. We use it out the side of the Jeep pretty often. There will be side footage in upcoming videos. Other than that, it’s not really designed to be a body cam or door cam.
@@BoldCanyonOutdoors - I think he’s talking about the the in cabin camera. It’s my understanding that the lens does adjust, but I haven’t seen whether it adjusts enough to get someone at your driver window.
