Yeah he is wrong but RT reaction can be carried out with Phenol, Furan, Pyrrole etc. Even with aniline CHCl₃/KOH would give phenyl isonitrile via carbene intermediate like RT reaction.

Reimer tiemann rexn is basically used for the synthesis of lots of functional group not only aldehyde,other groups can be created I. The reason chloroform with a strong base is used ... basically the base help to create a carbene from chloroform which then undergo cycloaddition reaction and so on...
