The monument you refer to is called Monas (Monumen Nasional/National Monument) It is established in 1961 but open to public in 1975. On top of the monument it is a 23 tons of gold mixed with bronze to described as fire symbolized the spirit of Indonesia. You can get to the top of the monument and view the panorama of Jakarta. I was born in this city and am proud of it :)
