No more slingshots! A video demonstrating how I used my drone to deploy my wire HF antenna over a tree in my backyard. I gave up the traditional slingshot method in favor of using more modern technology. For my antenna, I'm using an Icom AH-4 antenna tuner matching a 72-foot length of 14 gauge wire for my Icom IC-7300 radio. The drone is a DJI Mavic 2 Pro, with a Hanatora payload release device I bought off of Amazon. I've seen similar devices for the original Mavic Pro as well. I also have an Autel Evo 2 drone, but unfortunately I have not seen any drop mechanisms for this drone.

Very cool. I have been thinking, lately, of using my drone to deploy some antennas. Gotta “wake up “ the batteries first! What a pain! dji wants people to buy new ones! But it’s just programming they did in the batteries themselves. There IS a way to clear it if anyone needs to know. God Bless and have fun!

Well done ! This combines two of my favorite hobbies - drones & ham radio. Currently own a Mavic 3 & Mini 3 Pro bu think about a Air 2S as I've seen release mechainism on Amazon for that drone. Thank you for sharing !

Great setup. I have a DGI drone but it' too small to do this. I use my pneumatic antenna launcher and usually can get the line over whatever I want in 1 or 2 shots.

Very nice. I've tried this a couple times with my Mavic Air and it works really well. There is something to be said for the simplicity of the slingshot though.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. The one thing the drone gives you is accuracy. With the camera pointing down I can drop the weight pretty much right where I want it.

Does anyone know how to find the DCR Rules for use of Drones for Ham Radio in our Massachusetts Parks?

@@gregorykenley5997 you will have to research each jurisdiction for their drone rules. So, for a State park you would have to search the state regs. For a city park, you would have to search local ordinances. They normally only regulate take off and landing, as for the most part once in the air the flights are controlled by the FAA.
