The short version of the drone confrontation with original sound and captions to make it easier to follow along - The Case: A local real estate agent asked me to drone film a property, but it has turned out to be challenging as the private property is located in a blue zone (no-fly zone). Therefore, permission for flight must be obtained from the Defense Command §13 BEK 1649. But that's not the only problem. As you can see in the video, the biggest challenge is avoiding confrontation with the neighbor and being allowed to carry out the task.

To be honest this guy has no authority to ask for any papers or even if you have permission. You should have just told him you have permission from the home owner and the castle. You were under no obligation to explain any further to him.

You handled this professionally and with permission papers. You were very curtious Henrik 👍💯🙂. I think some people just don't like drones and they somehow think we are out to cause problems or etc. 😢. I have had a couple of times with people giving me some problems,but I stayed calm and was very careful and with permission, flight logs to prove where my drone had been. I would had done the same as you did 👍🙂. Having a body cam and permits,etc. is a great idea to keep you safe and legal. I have a friend of my wife over in Spain who were having to sell their villa due to advancing years. They wanted to have a video showing the villa and grounds as a memento. While I was flying at a decent height to get all the property in Police arrived and spoke to my Mrs and the couple who owned the villa. They said that they could see that nothing was wrong with what we were doing, but the complainant said that they had nearly been hit in the face, which of course was impossible as once I'd taken off to a height of twenty metres and just flown around the boundary, their statement was completely false. I wonder what it is that brings out this aggression. I bet they don't shut their eyes when a nice scene is in a film taken with a drone, like the start of Downton Abbey. Best Dave

@@russtee This was a good few years ago and I'd only just got the Mavic Air and this was its first real flight. At the time I was not sure what the rules were in Spain with this drone. Now after many different ones, I have a lot more idea, but still like to fly under the radar. Best Dave

I had a person complain to the cops I almost hit them when I flew over. I showed the police the video with it showing I was at 83ft in the air.

I have to give you props my friend for the way you handled that guy. I've had some similar situations happening to me and I be honest. One of those times I almost blacked out and don't know how it came to a stop, but yeah that can be very stressful. People will always feel like they have the right solution but in the end, it's always better to stay quiet and have them call the police themselves. Thanks for sharing my friend and blue skies. 👍👍👍

I fly over my property quite often but i find it annoying when my neighbour flys over my property to film their property on a regular basis without even informing me and they are using an aspire type drone. I complained to them about this but was told that they needed to to get the right angle shot for their 3d mapping. They usally fly at about a 100 ft. They did this to my other neighbour who is a farmer and made one of his cows have a miscarrige. They did pay compensation to him. This all went on for a couple of years once a month but has recently stopped.

Don't be nice to bullies. Tell them to call the police if you think the law is being infringed. If they refuse threaten them with the same police action. I do this all the time and they leave quickly. 😅

Well handled Henrik, just a thought when dealing with someone being aggressive though, I don't think I'd have been leaving my drone on the ground next to someone with that attitude and going to the car to get papers or your business card. There's some angry people out there who once the opertunaty presented itself would have probably stamped on it or kicked it. Probably worth picking up the drone to make sure it's safe from these sort of people first.

I live in Bulgaria and never have been engaged in any type of drone confrontation in my life, I have been flying for a year now and have more than 100 hours of footage over all type of neighbourhoods, lawns, forests, yards, villas and etc, even near the port of Varna's control tower and never ever had any confrontation from any member of the public. I guess people here just accept the mere reality that drones are the future and will be soon everywhere anyway so they didn't bother take interest in people flying drones :))))

I guess that in some countries there are a lot of nagging people. From Denmark it is said that they are one of the happiest people in the world, but as far as I can see nagging is a sport there. Tech Drone Media is my absolute favorite source of drone info as it covers all aspects of drone flying.

When I am going to fly (and I mostly fly "recreational") I try to inform everyone in the area, what is going to happen. I tell them my goal, roughly where I will be flying and what I will be filming. I never had any problems till now. (Of course I only tell people that I can see from the starting point, i wont walk through a whole neighborhood and ring every bell :D)

Make NO mistake about it, he is NOT harassing you over the drone. There is something he sees in you. The drone was just the excuse to come over to you. Sometimes also remember, people are lonely and really just want to have a conversation with fellow dude, but dont know how to initiate. (Like in your other video).

I commented the prev vid already. But sure, it's a matter of balance.... waste time vs. getting the shots. My last job two weeks ago was doing shots for a company on their yard... My contact informed the hell whole company.... and as there are some private houses in close quarter I just called the local police in case there is someone doing the dance. The police were absolute cool dudes... they just said: "We may come around just to see it, as that sounds interesting.". Nothing special happened except that my contact detected more workers walking around than usual, which finally helped to get cool action shots. Hehe.😅

It's always odd to me that a person can film anything with a smartphone or vlog camera, but as soon as its a drone it becomes a privacy issue. Even though there is very little "personal" (GDPR) information captured by a drone.

I had a similar situation a few days ago, the neighbour was complaining that i was flying above his house, i was above his house to get the right angle for the house i was photographing. i explained that the drone wasn't looking at his house, if i were to take a picture of you i wouldn't be standing on your head with the camera pointing straight down i would be standing at a distance away from you with the camera pointing at you. i was certain i wasn't doing anything illegal but checked with my drone instructor to confirm this, i was doing everything correctly. Why not create a small plastic sign saying something like ... (do not talk to the pilot while flying... work in progress .. ) and then place the sign on top of your car with magnets underneath... perhaps even mentioning the law article.. and then as answer to their comments or questions just point towards the sign.

Only the police would see these papers from me. They're just incredibly nosy and try to get information whats going on. And yes i see that you didnt want to come another day.
