Thanks for this video, it confirms my thinking exactly regarding overflying railway lines. Network rail seem to think they own the airspace above their lines!

I know this particular crossing very well :)

Great common sense advice. I often fly from my garden which is quite large. My neighbour on one side is the West Coast mainline complete with electrification. In fact we bought the house from Network Rail.

Common sense, many thanks, I have a minor rail track 40m from my back garden, I always climb to 40m straight up then cross the line quickly, it’s all about being sensible.

Perfectly legal to fly a sub 250g drone both near and over rail lines, including train stations (as long as there are no crowds or groups of people present). However, I don't recommend anyone fly directly above, over or alongside a moving train. Remember, article 241 of the Air Navigation Order: "A person must not recklessly or negligently cause or permit an aircraft to endanger any person or property". Fly Safe Folks!

I just had a visit drom the police as someone reported me for flying my drone over the railway line near Swindon it is an electrified line but I was 200 feet plus in the air and I fly a mini 2. Some ppl just don't know the law.

and the Police could not do a thing - they need to go around visiting people have been burgled and not wasting time on drones legally flying

@@allaboutdrones8070 It seems I have attracted a drone hater on my channel, if only they knew the law then perhaps they would not waste police time.

@@MadDogsandEnglishman lol I have a few haters here as well. However the Police should start to learn your not an issue and next time ask them how come they can come out for a legal drone flight but not attend people who have been burgled. :)

@@allaboutdrones8070 Hopefully the policeman will knock at my door, I will film the conversation, I will say to them if you think it's illegal to fly a 249 gram drone over a Railway line then you best ban pigeons and large birds flying over them plus thet crap all over the place and my drone don't! 🤣😂👌

Do you have a drone that is marked as 'C2', I didn't think that had been introduced yet? Also, I understood that you have to maintain a 50M horizontal separation for that weight and were unable to overfly a structure?
@allaboutdrones8070
@allaboutdrones8070 3 года назад
I flew that with a mini but an Mavic 2 pro or P4 pro would be able to do it - its now uninvolved people and the C2 mentioning was when they arrive and therefore an example

Do you have this in writing on any official documentation? I have always understood that if you wish to fly within 50mtrs of active railways, that you must notify Network Rail, and that there have been prosecutions in the past for not doing so. I have done a few roof inspections on houses close to active railway lines, and normally use Dronecloud to submit my application / risk assessment / method statement etc, and they have always approved my applications. I don't have a problem doing this, however it is a lot of additional hoops to jump through if I don't need to do this.

See CAP 722 those are the Rules - Not made up ones by Network Rail - You follow the Law then CAP 722 is what you follow and don't forget its 30m for take off and landing if you use a CAA Operation authorisation

@@allaboutdrones8070 Is there something in CAP722 that I may have missed, that supersedes Network Rail GUIDANCE-NR-L3-OPS-251-Unmanned-Aircraft-System-Drone-UAS-Operations-ISS-2-28-01-19 ?

@@sky-highaerialvideophotography Railway is guidance - We Follow CAP 722 UA rules - if working on the railway network thats a different ball game - This is Not about Working on railways - If you want you can email the CAA and they will tell you to keep the separation distances depending on aircraft you fly. CAP 722 is our rule set to follow NOT Network Rails - You work in this arena this is basic stuff - no Council controls airspace - No National Trust Does - No Port Authority does - The Regulator that defines the use of UA and separation distances is the CAA - It IS that simple
@allaboutdrones8070
@allaboutdrones8070 3 года назад
@@sky-highaerialvideophotography CAP 722 covers unmanned Aircraft and Airspace its that simple - CAP 722c on airspace if you need to read it and Network Rail cannot stop you flying within 50m or over the railway line without notifying them - Its NOT a Law in the UK to contact Network Rail for the final time
