Aaah the chattering classes and expertologists have arrived. This horse is, very obviously, beautifully cared for and healthy. He is very relaxed, displaying none of the tension indicators (strained flat ears, raised head, tense neck, weight on all four feet, etc). The drums are attached to fittings on the saddle, not onto the horse. Pretty sure he has sound baffles in his ears. But a complete ignorance of anything about it, does not stop the smartypants. Get a life! Take up a hobby!
Actually,Thanks for the explanation on the drums, was wondering how they were held on to,and good to hear that the horses have ear protection and yes the horse looks well cared for( Beautiful horse) Thanks from California 💕
Pretty dumb to be securing drums after attaching multiple reins on the horse-and if you’re going to attach them to your feet maybe be mindful to keep them still instead of constantly putting pressure on the horse from all sides. Would make more sense to secure all of your belongings before putting all of that unnecessary pressure on the horse’s face and in addition to the added pressure of securing the drums.
Seriously, being a drum horse, he is accustomed to being controlled by foot reins. In fact, those reins are slack most of the time. The horse isn't showing signs of distress. He is cooperating with the soldier by leaning against the tension of the strap holding the drum. These horses appear to enjoy their work. In all the parades that I have watched, I have only once seen a drum horse get spooked or behave badly. In Ihat instance a mounted police officer immediately assisted the drummer in taking the horse into the side street near Clarence House. Usually they plod along, setting the pace, and looking very much at ease.
Su Moody, I am trying to see where they are torturing the horse, so far all I can see they are tightening the kettle drums securely. You need to go to spec savers I think or get a hobby.
Harcode PETA-level vegans think that any domestic usage of animals is torture. Even keeping pets is akin to slavery in their eyes, and euthanising them (after illegally snatching them from outside of people's homes) is "setting them free". Never mind that if a working animal doesn't want to work, they will let you know that in no uncertain terms, and if you're mounted at the time you've got a good chance of ending up in the dirt.
These huge horses only survive through the dedication of people who breed them for work. If they were simply turned loos into the remaining unfarmed land in the UK, they would not survive. Some of the smaller breeds of ponies can survive wild, but the major work horses, Shires, Clydesdales and Suffolk Punches cannot. Suffolk Punches are endangered. Clydies are rare....
Su moody, you don't know what you are talking about. These horses are the most pampered ever. The soldiers love these horse's care for them 24/7 vet on call 24 hours. The horse's even go on holiday to Norfolk were they swim in the sea gallop in fields. Would never ever torture them if they did the horse would cower, did you see any of that. Shame on you for even thinking that.
