Leprous is Norways finest🥳 Living here I get to see this world class band pretty much every year. And they always floor me completly with their amazing live show. Go see them live when you can. I got a double concert at Notodden a couple of weeks ago. They played the albums Bilateral and Coal. It was GLORIOUS,!

I was almost upset that it took this long for another Baard reaction video, but the interview you mentioned has me excited. Bless you!

To be fair, the end of the song is more atmosphere than anything technical. I don’t think you missed a ton. But I was thrilled to see this! The album is Pitfalls, by the way. 😊 Excited to see the interview!

I think their best album to date, there are for sure stand out tracks on other albums (Slave, The Price, Illuminate, etc.) but top to 'Bottom' this one is the place to start.

@@TwoandaHater Malina is my favorite album, but that’s entirely subjective of course. Bilateral holds a special place in my heart though. It’s the first time I heard them. They haven’t released a bad album.

I totally disagree. The ending is the complete deconstruction of the main rhythm we hear throughout. It sounds simple but to actually write that with the hi hat always hitting a 4/4 over 11/8 is just insane. As a drummer that's one of the peak moments of the song for me, without a doubt. Great bit of insight in this video however.
@scosstard3542
@scosstard3542 3 года назад
The end is extremely epic. Yes it is atmospheric and repetitive, but the polyrhythm is insane, he is basically playing 4 rhythms as once and besides the 4 over 11 he is playing, I have not figured out the rest. If we add the space in the groove + the dynamics and the way the drum part is composed over a simple loop, he did in fact miss a lot by not listening to the rest of the song... And it is very technical.

Man, you stopped just before one of his most incredible fills. A standing up fill it was so intense. I’m with you on the record this is from. It’s awesome. My son sent me this video to watch. I was sold straight away. Fantastic. Can’t wait to see your interview with him. Do the rest of the song. The build at the end is strange but brilliant.

Dude, this playthrough is a treatise and the end is something you really should cover. I like your technical analysis and I loved how you were totally geeking out about the half time shuffle and other stuff on Illuminate. You actually stopped me from overlooking that song. So yeah, I'd love if you did the full video review.

Been following Leprous for years and finally got to see them live a few weeks ago playing with The Ocean. There were fewer than 200 people there so I can't imagine they made any money (show was in Charlotte, NC) but it was great. People ranging in age from prob 18 to 60, no mosh pits or anything wild, just some people that loved some good music. They sound just as good live as on record too which was a pleasant surprise. They actually played this song and one of the guitarists actually puts down his guitar and goes to help with the drums. The band is really fun like that though; literally every single member (they are a six piece) played keyboards more than once except for Baard of course. And a lot of times there would be two people playing keys at once. Dude is one of the busiest drummers I've ever seen and you can see it when he takes his shirt off, he's like 1% body fight

If you want to hear a good proggy drummer who likes to take risks, check out a band called BATS. They're a post-hardcore/mathrock/prog outfit from Dublin who are CRIMINALLY underrated and unknown. Check out tracks like "Gamma Ray Burst," "These Ones Lay Eggs," "Thomas Midgley Jr.," "Heat Death," "The Sleep of Reason Brings Forth Monsters, "In the Court of the C-R-I-S-P-R King," and "Creatures Collecting."

I’m not a drummer so I don’t know what the problem is with a loose grip, but it looks like he is able to get like a whipping action to the stick allowing him to add a more dynamic and accented drum groove. I’m not drummer though that might be an ignorant observation.

Please react to Knights of Cydonia by MUSE live at Rome Olympic Stadium. Dominic Howard is such a beast. The way he keeps the galloping beat between his kick and gong drum whilst keeping time on the snare and hats is awesome. Then his dum fills right before the instrumental are tasty.
