Steve Gadd’s drumming in Aja by Steely Dan is life changing. No pop song had a solo like that ever.

First heard of him in college in the 70’s. As a guitar affectionado I never really listened to the drums until I heard Lenore on the Chick Corea Leprechaun album. Gadd carved such a deep groove I couldn’t help but listen to it over and over. It taught me to pay attention to drums. His playing on that song is my favorite Gadd drumming ever.

Thanks for this reaction! Not a drummer here, but I am a music enthusiast and love learning more new things about great musicians and instruments. My intro to Steve Gadd was the same as a lot of people's: the title track from Steely Dan's watershed album, AJA. I haven't really delved that much into his catalog or his playing with other great artists, but I'm trying to change that now!

Garey, another fantastic reaction. As a total Non-Drummer I haven't the slightest idea what's happening - only that I like it! But to have you breaking down the sections helps me understand the complex timing and technique. The BONUS - your enthusiasm. The first time I watched one of your analysis videos I thought it was kind of a fluke, like maybe you just really enjoyed that particular drummer. I believe that first video was your reaction to Neil Peart. But your level of intensity and enjoyment is no fluke - I enjoy your enjoyment as much as I do your technical know how. Thanks and as always I look forward to more from you. From a guitarist who might've been a drummer if only I'd lived in a house that could have handled a drum kit!

Have a listen to this and enjoy: Steve Gadd killer solo with Blicher Hemmer Gadd 2019. The solo's, (sticks and brushes), are great. But the groove on the last tune....oh yea. I think it would make a great reaction video.

Love the commentary. Great insights on the drumming techniques. One suggestion: the audio quality on the videos you're watching is really bad because we are just hearing what your mic pics up through your computer speakers. No bass at all. The kick is basically inaudible. It would be preferable if you could wear headphones during your commentary and then overdub the audio from the video directly.

Great video! Love your enthusiasm and quick dissections of what is happening. Just a little nitpicking, you confused wurlitzers with a leslie amp. A wurlitzer is one of the first electronic pianos, similar to the Fender Rhodes. The leslie amplifier is the amplifier with the rotating speaker.

I really enjoy watching your videos I have one question though, do you have a high pass filter on your sound because the kick drum doesn’t really come through and I’m on a system with a subwoofer. I found this video on RU-vid and there’s plenty of kick drum almost too much. I’ve noticed this on all of your videos, so I’m just curious are you doing something intentional? Or is it just happening when using the video software? Or ?

You absolutely need to check out some Mike Portnoy stuff from Dream Theater. Check out Dance of Eternity, some really great and complicated drumming/rhythms. If you check out some more metal drummers I'll happily follow your channel. Here's a good link to it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RppQTB2IknE.html, I think you'll be really impressed, the guy is a machine/human metronome. One of the best drummers of all time in my opinion.

Oh and since this is my day for complaining a little bit when you show examples of your right hand and hold a whole sticks it’s right behind the video of the artist so we can’t see what you’re doing so maybe help us out be be mindful of that I guess hate to complain because everybody gets so mad about complainers but in a selfish aspect I want to see what you’re doing as a student of the drums I so much love drums as a bass player I wish I was a drummer but I can’t do it but I want to know how to do it so I watch it all the time.
