If you're a new or beginning drummer - (after the rolls around the toms bit - something every young drummer dreamed of doing in the 1970s-80s when setups like this were popular) this drum solo is very, very simple: LRLRLRLR etc. No double strokes, no ghost notes, no flams or other fancy stuff.
The feet are also LRLR, and the left hand and left foot on the hi-hats play together, likewise right hand & bass drum. The only variations are accents - dynamics - and which drum is hit.
I don't find it easy to keep this going with the feet and hands locked together, and you can hear that it drifts off in places. Start slowly and keep it locked. Lately I've tried introducing some double strokes with the hands while keeping the LRLR pattern going down below, which breaks up the simple pattern and makes it harder to hold together.
Been meaning to set this up for a while as I put new Remo CS clear head on all the concert toms. 22"/8"/10"/13"/14"/15"/16" + 16"/18" floor toms. And there are 12" & 13" conventional toms left over! (You can see them reflected in the bass drum head.)
OK there are a few rattles in this (one is the bass drum pedal, which I've since swapped out) and the toms aren't tuned perfectly, but I was keen to have a play.
Man, it's hard to reach the 16" concert tom (left of screen). It's further around than the 2nd floor tom and farther away!
I had to reduce the kit to a 4-piece for band practice this afternoon so just had time for this one take. Sloppy, but you get the idea. Ha ha.
Snare is a 6.5" deep 10-lug Acrolite, which seems to work well with this kit.
Room sound only, and the 13" & 14" concert toms are projecting towards the field recorder (which is close to the camera position) so picking up too strongly. They're more directional than conventional 2-headed drums.
