infact the 2nd phase was not the full version i believe, bcs the official hasn't post anything yet. that's why it was played on loop. but i love how the ost in 2nd phase really capture the alien feeling of the creature we're facing XD
Whale thumps, whale heart beat, whale noise underwater and most importantly,SONAR.they've taken everything that is associated with underwater and whale😂😂
The overall sound to me feels fairly different from what you'd normally hear with genshin tracks, but that 2nd phase was (no pun intended) out of this world! The first time I heard it, I pretty much thought to myself, "WTF am I listening to???"
yep, that's the point all right, its not from teyvat, a whole otherworldly creature, when we're fighting it its almost like we are trying to survive rather than actually defeat it, there's no phase where it falls down so we can do dmg properly
I love it... I usually play genshin in silent because of my moan-er characters..but I never keep it silent during that theme...damn .it has to be one of my favourite boss theme
4:36 man, i wasn't spoiled for this, thankfully, and was just doing yhe Archon quest and fighting the narwhal. Then all of a sudden this giant guy with a huge sword comes out of nowhere with the base drop. And i just remember squealing and running around trying not to die while also being happily overwhelmed by the hype AF music. Hoyo Mix had NO right to go THAT hard with that bass drop.
If I had a nickel for every time narwhal sounds were used in a song from a gacha game, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but its weird it happened twice.
That second phase glitched me so bad, man, i was not in a happy place dhdjdjf the first one actually kind of reminds me of ludwig the accursed/the holy blade from bloodborne!!! Like the trombones and the pomp, and the sense of enormity, which itself borrows a lot from beethoven's more dark works, its really cool. Captain Ahab wishes his soundtrack was this cool gddhhfjfjfjf
It's even a 90 sec loop like Honkai ost instead of the usual 4 min songs with beginning and end Genshin has. The whole "abyss" sequence of this quest is just Honkai design made by Genshin team.
@@kuroh0241 pretty sure that since sumeru, Genshin got a new writing team that had a few honkai devs in it, hence why there was a big step up in quality with sumeru and Fontaine and why Fontaine in particular has a honkai vibe in some parts
were used to more classical and orchestral sounds from hoyomix. this track -despite sounding haunted- is very playful. love how diverse the music gets with each passing year
Funny you mention Star Rail cause this boss is actually SPOILER not from this game world. And its associated with a character that has a similar design vibe to Star Rail
This is a great boss theme, the first part is when you’re fighting it while it’s going in and out of the battlefield, the second is when it swallows you and you fight a creature inside of it to get out
So dubstep lives on through boss battles... appropriate considering how listening to dubstep is a battle on its own. :P By the way, those pings at the start sound like whale calls that were modified.
Couldn't be farther from the truth. The later parts of Sumeru didn't involve him, and neither did any of Fontaine's OST. Music direction in Genshin is still top notch!
Can you please check out Reverse 1999? Any song is amazing, and I think you will appreciate the character EPs. The EPs sound like real music from the 60s and the 1920s.
Bro the freaking whale dubstep sounds had me TERRIFIED LMAOOOO 😭 I remember doing this boss in a dark room and as if the first phase wasn't threatening enough, now I got haunting dubstep loud as heck in my room while I'm fighting some giant abyssal knight like???? This soundtrack was brilliant
For me the second phase just skyrocketed to my top 1 genshin impact OST. It just screams of honkai impact's bizarre dubsteps and eldritch horror vibes. And that honestly fits perfectly as this whale should not be from teyvat but a different world. Skirk herself looks like a mix of jingliu from honkai star rail and Benares human form from honkai impact. Even her hands and feet look similar to herrscher of Finality Kiana from honkai impact.
