Drummer Reacts To - Kanade Sato Drum Solo FIRST TIME HEARING 

I've followed Kanade since she was 9 years old, and she is one of the most technical drummer out there. She's 22 years old now, and she just gets better and better. She used to have solo show, where she played songs made by her dad. If you check out her drumso from October 2023, you can hear her use the cowbell more advanced than what you expect. She's not as fast as el stephario or what he's called, but man, she's so much more technical can him. I've been s technical drummer myself for over 40 years, and this girl has impressed me more than any other drummers. You can also check out Junna. A crazy drummer from Japan. She's so fun to watch and she can play almost anything you give her.

She's an amazing drummer, and just joined Koiai, a band formed by Lisa-X, Hazuki (of Nemo), and Kotono on vocals. This is a crazy talented band of musicians, so I hope they are patient and - now that they are together - find their own sound. They released some songs, and a couple are really great to my ears.

She is about 21 when she played this solo. She is NOT self-thought, she has a very strict education. Her father is a composer and drummer. Her band calls "MUSES". Kanade is an extraordinary drummer. She has been performing in public since age 6. When she was 9 Roland hired her to go around japan and demonstrate their electronic drums. Her video Girl Fools Crowd at Japanese Shopping Mall has had had around 50 million views in its various versions, and has played with many of Japan's top musicians. Kanade also played the role of Lunetta on the tv show Musica Piccolina for 6 years. Another amazing young female Japanese drummer is 14 yo Yoyoka Soma. She was added to the Drummerworld list of the greatest drummers who ever lived when she was only 11, the youngest ever.

Kanade Sato was born in November 2002, so she is almost 21, but she has been playing drums since she was 3 years old. She did a Dave Weckl cover during her 16th anniversary show, which you can find on her youtube channel. She is currently in 2 Japanese Jazz Fusion bands, "Ear Candy Jazz Factory" (I believe she was 15 or so when she started in that band) and more recently "Muses". The bass player on stage in this one is also from Muses. Funny thing is that there is an other fantastic Japanese drummer on the stage here in Senri Kawaguchi (who is also worth checking out). She is a bit older (27 I believe), but Senri was the youngest drummer in the drummerworld top 500 list until Yoyoka (an other Japanese drummer who is 13 now) beat her a couple of years ago. She released her first drum DVD when she was 11 years old and was somewhat of a youtube phenomenon apparently back when she was really young (I missed that). Both Kanade Sato and Senri Kawaguchi are incredible drummers, but there are a lot of great Japanese drummers. I don't know if it's related as I haven't watched the anime, but there used to be an anime about a female band called K-On and I know Senri covered songs of that show when she was young and I have seen other recent young drummers do the same thing. So they might have gotten inspiration from that show to learn the drums. For Senri Kawaguchi, I would recommend "Wupatki / SENRI KAWAGUCHI TRIANGLE LIVE" from her channel or one of the videos she did on Drumeo (either one of the solos or one of the playthroughs she did over there eg. "Senri Kawaguchi “Adventure” Drum Performance", which is from one of the bands she is in called "Kiyo*Sen".

Kanade plays in an up and coming band with Li-sa X and some other very good musicians in a great band called 'Koiai'. At 1:35, you can see another great drummer (Senri Kawaguchi) watching her on the left side of the stage. They may have been doing some dual drum performance. Also of note is Juna Serita on bass, whom is also a much beloved musician. Re: pronunciation, her name is pronounced 'Kahn-a-Dey Say-toe'.

I’ve been following her for many years, as she won the International Hits Like A Girl Contest at age eleven. Superb. Check out Gergo Borlai and Arkady Kornev sometime. Also Aron Mellergård of Dirty Loops. Some of the best on the planet, they will blow you away! (Arkady plays with Valeriy Stepanov, Gergo plays for European Mantra).

Hi from France: During this superb evening, there was a duo of drummers, Kanade Sato, of course, but also, standing on the left of the stage, the Japanese drumming prodigy, namely Senri Kawaguchi, who left his post behind his kit to listen to and encourage her cadet. The two drummers have often played together and respect each other. Kanade Sato is primarily a session drummer and has played with the biggest Jazz, Jazz-fusion, but also rock and pop song groups in Japan...

I've seen her live when she was just 16, with the fusion band that became Muses. She is with them, and also with Koiai, which is more metal. There is a parade of insanely good young drummers, most of them girls/women, coming out of Japan. If I had to pick the top three, the icon of course is Senri, who is now 27 and has musicians all over the world lining up to play with her. Sato-san is now a fully established pro, and then there is Yoyoka Soma, who has the potential to be the best of them.

To be perfectly honest, I cant decide which I should focus on : Her playing the drums or her looks. Because both are exquisitely beautiful.

There is only one thing above Kanade : Senri Kawaguchi. YOu can see her smiling at the back, while Kanadae plays. They are the top, and, for our pleasure, they are friends and play regulary together. Noticed the bassist, JUna ? EVERYTHING she touches becomes GOLD. YOu just are witnessing the best musical microcosmos nowadays.

She can play Weckl. Enough said.

My favourite is her own and her father's composition "Drops" which she played when she was 11.

I personally love female drummers, who look very feminine and and have a technical understanding like a real badass...

It has less to do with the internet and more to do with the extensive music education that students receive in Japan.

Hell Yeah! she's solid! what i like is the world is growing as a whole in drumming.. again she is hella solid but her stuff has a different feel from most, maybe its a cultural thing.. kinda like El Estapario.. he has a different up bringing than say we Americans do in general, and you can 'feel' a difference in their style, fills, etc.. She has a killer pocket groove when she goes into it, along with everything else!!! Awesome work Kanade!! ..and reaction Colby! pe@ce. 😎🤙

Her father is a music producer and composer. She's not exactly self-taught, but definitely a prodigy.

Yeah - Kanade is great. She deserved plenty of the spotlight. She is a little unfortunate in that Senri Kawaguchi has come along at the same time. Kanade is brilliant. But raise her by a factor of about 10 - and you have Senri. Kanade is often genuine rock, while Senri is genuinely everything!

Good stuff When and if you can fit in another (f) Japanese drummer, Natsumi playing in Bridear is phenomenal. I'm partial to their song Brave New World Revisited along with Ghoul and Bloody Bride.
