It’s because a human being can’t possibly play the “what she actually played” part, since it’s MIDI drum samples clumsily overlaid. I wish he’d actually perform the “real” versions, because they always end up as this impossible “popcorn drumming” that only MIDI can do, lol

Well not an animated series, but I heard there was a car commercial where they auditioned many young string instrument performers to play. Not telling them they would be dubbed over with badly played music so that they can advertise the car’s soundproofing.

@@TY-df7fg oh yeah, I heard about that too. caused quite a lot of controversy. I believe TwoSetViolin made a couple videos as well talking about that. They even recieved an email from one of the music students in that commercial giving their story. Turns out the musicians had to do multiple auditions, which made them even more devastated when infinity dubbed over them without their knowledge

I love how the people complaining about these types of videos say things like the creator(s) doesn't/don't know that animating things correctly would take more time. Meanwhile, I'm just taking interest in what sounds the animation would really make. It's fun stuff, basically.

The people complaining are stupid too. Unless they are just copying the audio from a song, and making up animation, then they have a drummer in a sound booth and still have to animate it anyway so how much harder is it to animate it correctly vs incorrectly?

@@StevenTLawson I believe that although for spoken lines, people record first, sound effects are recorded after the animation is finished. Also,it's not like animators can animate quickly, they'd need to take a video recording of the drummer, which may not be in the drummer's contract, and may require them to pay the drummer more, and then they'd have to play it back more slowly because drumming is fast and hard to follow with your eyes so they'd get the beats correct, and then try to animate it at the correct speed while still adding in stylistic elements like what we see in this clip---all for a brief sequence that the majority of the viewers wouldn't recognize if it's wrong

@@flyingsky1559 Okay... but then you need to know how to produce those notes on an instrument. I can look at a song indicating to hit a G-flat but if I don't know how to play the drums, I don't know what this translates to. So, sure, you can do some research on where to make that note, and do the same for all other notes in the song... But then you have to worry about tempo, because you can't animate the notes to be too slow or too fast, it'll be incorrect, so you need to get that right, also. And all of this takes time and therefore costs money, and the time spent perfectly animating the drums is less time taken to animate something else. Also, an important thing to remember is: sometimes they don't know exactly what song is going to be there until after it's animated. Sometimes a script calls for a specific song, but not always, sometimes it's just "drumline" or "guitar riff" and it's not up to the animators to decide what song will eventually go there. And, sometimes the song chosen in the script ends up not being used because the composer says no, or the rights are too expensive, or the studio executives demand to use a different song, so they use a different song, and then the animators wasted their time perfectly animating the wrong song.

What I always find weird is usually for these things they get someone to play it so like if they recorded it then used the footage as reference would make it easier to know where it is as well, but animating is hard so idk

What you just said is exactly what they did when making a current anime called Bocchi the Rock. They recorded real musicians playing the songs and then used the footage as reference.

Time and money. Doing that would be several episodes of budget and animators not going home, bathing, and two hours of sleep for a month or two. Or... Screw it. Make it look decent. Only one autistic RU-vidr will notice and care.

As an animator, I would say that they rarely provide any references to the animators because they don't think about It. You would be surprise how often this happen. How they Say: insert dance here. I'm no choegrapher and yet here I am, improvising something, checking youtube videos to figure It out by myself. Big movies might provide references but tv shows? No Time, no thoughts. Unless the director cares a lot about that moment and the producers agrees on spending that money, animators has to improvise most of the time. XD

In episode 2F09 when Itchy plays Scratchy’s skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of a magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

Being an Irl quads player, and watching this episode, I felt true pain. She makes playing the quads look so easy, when they are the hardest instrument to play on in drumline. The heavy weight, plus having to manage 5 or 6 drums at a time, is very challenging, and requires much practice.

Back in highschool I considered quads but landed on pit percussion because I simply didn't have the strength to carry those drums all the time. I did have the musical talent to take all the mallet percussion parts I could though.

I used to play the quads in high school. I wasn't a really big guy. When I first started it was really hard wearing them for a time and I had to rest a lot. By the end of the school I could walk around for hours with them and never get a strain. Really helped my back strength I guess.

Actually this animation just may be correct... If you take into account that fact that these tenors could be tuned differently than the typical set, then this might be possible. You also have to accept the fact that she could be beatboxing at the same time she's playing, which would explain the sounds that occur when no drums are struck. All in all, this animation could very well be flawless. I am positively appalled at your ignorance on this subject, Eric! All factors MUST be considered when discussing such objective rankings as the one displayed in this performance. I expect you to improve your judgments by the time you release "Drums are Never Animated Correctly... Right? Ep. 69" I wish you the best in your future endeavors regarding this topic, good sir!
