Being drunk and being tired both are basically the same thing, it's just being drunk is much quicker way of achieving that end. Drinking two full glasses of red wine is something like the equivalent of not sleeping for 3 days. In effect, if someone says they're tired, it could either mean that, or they're trying to deflect the fact they're drunk.
