We travel from Bimini to Highbourne Cay, with stops in Chub Cay and Nassau. We send a diver down to retrieve lost sunglasses and all six of our air conditioners stop working. But hey, we are in the Exumas!

Our Story:
My name is Ed, I am an ex-muscian, turned politician, turned tax account, who now imagines himself a sea-captain. Lyn, is an ex-model, turned photographer and the love of my life.
We have spent the last three years traveling on our 65' Hatteras Yacht and it has been terrifying. We have faced down storms, been stranded at sea, towed off shoals and run aground by careless boaters.
But it has been magical as well. We have explored places known only by those who travel by water, met incredible people along the way, and learned so much about boating - and even more about ourselves.
And to think - until three years ago, Lyn, and I, never even owned a boat.
We met when we were 21. I was a starving musician, on my way To Los Angeles to starve some more. Lyn was a model, waitressing tables and dreaming of adventure. We went on our first date to the Jersey Shore, and spent the night on a boat her father was restoring. That date has never ended.
We traveled the country together, and settled for a few years in Hollywood, where she discovered her love for photography, and I discovered that music was not going to be my career. We put down roots in Bucks County Pennsylvania. We built a house together, raised three children and became your typical American family. She opened a photography business and I opened an accounting firm.
On a vacation to Key West, we met a woman who lived on her boat. She had been an emergency room nurse for many years but decided she had had enough. She sold everything, bought a boat and sailed to Florida. We were fascinated. It seemed so romantic, so us. The seed was planted.
Flash forward a few years and the children are grown. Lyn retired from photography and sold her business. And me, well, I was only working three months out of the year and looking for a new adventure.
So, we bought our first boat. A Carver 355. No experience, and completely clueless. We hired a captain to bring us to our local marina and we were determined to learn how to operate her. We practiced in an empty marina for a couple of days and then, we just went for it! We figured, if we liked boating as much as we imagined, we would trade up to our dream boat. Two years later we did just that.
This video vlog is our story. Boating has become our passion. We invite you to share this journey with us, as we explore the waterways of the Atlantic and Caribbean, having the time of our lives, while "Trying Not To Sink."
Cheers!
Ed and Lyn.

You showed the two super yachts the Lonian and the Hodor at 19:30. Both of those ships have been anchored off the coast of Newport Beach Ca. for the last 2 weeks. Amazing how far some of these ships travel. Their launches are 55ft..

I never thought the Bahamian entry fees were unreasonable for a 3 or 6 month stay. But, they flat out killed the weekend traffic to Bimini. I was living in South Florida when they changed over to that system, and even with just a 32-ft boat, it was just too expensive to go over for a weekend anymore.

I've got a 63MY, the engine room is much larger, and the AC's are in the genny room, but plagued by the same issues. We stayed at Hurricane Hole last time in Nassau, and hung out at Atlantis way too much. I've got an override switch on my cruisair pump relay box. So I can see the water flow without running the AC's.

Dude... Ed, I just want to say I love your vlog. I found it as I was looking for a Hatteras 56 to 70 Motor Yacht. My wife and I have a 67 Marinette 32 twin engine Flybridge Express (small by what you have). We have been looking to getting bigger since we spend ALL of our non work time on the water. My wife Jennifer loves being on the water and well I have 3+ years floating in the Indian ocean on the USS Independence. I have digressed but I want to thank you for the information that I have gained from you. I hope to see you as I am cruising on my 56-70 Hatteras Motor Yacht. It may be a couple of years since I have to get to 62 without crippling retirement but if I find something before then with good economics and hardware I may see you sooner.

It only takes 1 boat to cross a sea grass bed where their prop cuts a bunch of grass to have a whole lot of boats getting sea strainers blocked with it. While cruising in areas with shallow bottoms I would add checking the strainer frequently to the regular checks list, just to avoid the potential damage to the systems that can't get the water they need to work properly. ( air-con, engines, generators )
@tryingnottosink9107
@tryingnottosink9107 2 года назад
We check them periodically but it seems the AC strainer is the only one the gets clogged frequently. Next time we get pulled I plan to check the outside and see if something is wrong.

Question, what length boat would have problems with on a short time slip rental during your travels.
@tryingnottosink9107
@tryingnottosink9107 Год назад
We have no problem finding slips for our 65 foot boat. Bigger than that would limit you choice of marinas but we see people with 70+ foots along the way. The 100+ boats have very limited options.

Does your boat have something like a slip oil tank? It’s a tank that holds used motor oil and other oily waste. Basically I’m curious as to what you would do with the fuel that had leaked into the bilge?
@tryingnottosink9107
@tryingnottosink9107 10 месяцев назад
We keep several 5 gallon pails on board that we use if we need to clean the bilges. We store the used fuel/oil in one of the heads that we are not using until we can find a place to take to.
