Kokichi just had trust issues. If he were to trust Saihara or if Saihara were to see through his mask, he woudlve been saved or atleast had a less painfull death.

I view Kokichi’s character as a chaotic neutral and seemingly neutral evil. Komaeda’s is more like a mix between chaotic good and chaotic neutral. Komaeda has a misguided sense of justice and while that does not justify him, it’s understandable why he did it. His morality is just kind of blurred and he has an inferiority complex and is sort of a hypocrite. He treats Hinata like trash because the latter wasn’t special but he feels that he himself isn’t special but still holds himself above Hinata until much later. Kokichi on the other hand is a different kind of complex. He KNOWS what he’s doing is wrong and he’s supposed to be the logic and the lie. He’s supposed to be morally ambiguous. The thing about him is that he lies because he can and because that’s the only way he thinks he can survive. He has the morals of a normal person, but goes on to use reason to justify going beyond the limits of his feelings. Again, he is not in the right but you can understand his point of view. He never wished to kill anyone, but he never cared enough to not use other people to play his game. In chapter 4 for example, using Gonta was basically a last resort and he found it necessary to hatch an evil plan. He’s STILL morally gray but would rather not use people unless it was something he had to do. He only truly cared for survival, but would rather not have the others die because he’s still a person, just one that takes things to the extremes. At least that’s my interpretation. Neither of them did anything we should justify, but they had their reasons for it.

If I could change chapter 5 in any way- kokichi actually drank the antidote, and kaito died. I love maki but I think it would have been really despair inducing to have her accidentally kill kaito. Kokichi probably ends up feeling bad about it, and combining that with what he did to gonta(which I believe he was genuinely guilty about, otherwise he wouldn’t have offered to get punished too) He reveals he isn’t the mastermind and gets rightly pissed about tsumugi being the mastermind and the world he knows being fake. That’s how I’d change it. Kokichi is bae

Lasange I knew Kokichi was bound to die but if I were to change it I’d say he’d be a blackened and no one believed him because he says that all the time but yeah whatever him DYING LIKE THAT was fine I GUESS.

I thought maybe a good death for him would be he survives till the last trial, doesn't vote, but the outside world wanted the survivors to die and for more danganronpa, so kokichi, wanting to end this, grabs hold of keebo and aims the blast at tsumugi and monokuma instead. Keebo self destructs, killing kokichi in the blast. I dunno, but I love him so much I hate how he had to die urgh
