Great video George. You are right on about the LL series from Sage. I have a 389 LL graphite III and in my opinion it's still the best dry fly rod Sage ever made.

G'Day George, Always enjoy watching and learning from your videos. My favourite small stream fly rod is a 6'6" 3/4wt--cant recall the make. It is perfect for getting into tight spots with roll and other tricky dickey casts. Merry Christmas and Cheers Steve.

Hiya, just wanted to say im really enjoying your fishing tips and what a peach of a trout at dusk!! I fish the river Kelvin in Glasgow and dusk is my favourite time and also when the river is low. The bigger fish seem to move into shallower water at dusk I find. Well done Sir!!

Your opinion please, was fishing a small size 18 silver sedge last night, must have had 8 or so takes but never connected with one. So trying to figure out the problem as i was quick enough on the lift with these upstream fish. i tied these myself and wondering could the problem be too much hackle? or in other words should i cut away more hackle underneath to help with better hook up or just go up to size 14 instead? Just found it very strange not to even hook up on one. Thank you.
@springerspanielful
@springerspanielful 2 года назад
I think given what you've described you have already diagnosed the problem,most likely too much hackle covering the hook,give them a trim and let us know how it goes.

Great video george, quick question when they break off the fly is it cause the leader isnt strong enough or a bad knot or is it something else??
@springerspanielful
@springerspanielful 2 года назад
Great question John, it can be either or all of the above at times, but mostly caused by big powerful fish either reaching weeds or not getting them onto the reel in time to utilise the drag system.
@jctralee
@jctralee 2 года назад
@@springerspanielful one other quick question, you will be sick of me, is there a difference using the reel or landing a fish by hand, i always go by hand, just wondering if there is a difference i never use the reel, just wondering , i love the feel of a fish bringing him in by hand, but i regularly see guys in nz and the us using reels to land monsters , just curious
@springerspanielful
@springerspanielful 2 года назад
@@jctralee It's always preferable to get the fish on the reel, especially if it's a fish of any size, otherwise a strong fish making a sudden run will likely break you if you are handlining as demonstrated in this video.

What's your opinion on the greenwells glory?
@springerspanielful
@springerspanielful 2 года назад
The Greenwells is a tried and well tested pattern that has produced millions of trout in both it's dry and wet fly guises,however I would venture that there are newly developed patterns that are even more productive,eg the Sparkle Dun.
@tiernanwearen8096
@tiernanwearen8096 2 года назад
@@springerspanielful would you recommend it for lake trout?
@springerspanielful
@springerspanielful 2 года назад
@@tiernanwearen8096 Yes,it will often produce when standard lake flies fail.
