• Maximum Breath Hold - ... (this video your watching now)
OK, so this is a tip on how to get a longer dry static. A dry static is holding your breath on dry land as apposed to the water.
Myself and a friend (who has never freedived before) both used this method to hold our breaths over 4 minutes.
1. Get a relaxing song you like that is similar in length to your target breath hold time.
2. Do a breathup for atleast 2 mins. If you dont know how to do the breath up, watch this video: • Freediving Breathe Up ...
3. Exhale all air, Finial deep breath to 95%-99% of your lung capacity
4. HOLD
5. 0- 2 minute period, visualize yourself diving down, and focus on the music.
6. Relax through your first contractions, dropping your chin when they occur.
7. 2-3 minute period, Yours feeling more uncomfortable now, so don't think about your breath hold, focus on the music and imagine yourself diving perfectly.
8. 3-4 minute period, focus on the end of the song, imagine you are returning to the surface from your dive. Wait till the song ends before breathing.
9. Recovery breathing
10. Repeat this process at least 3 times, focus on your 3rd attempt to be your MAX
Songs I often use: Blank and Jones - Chilled Cream, Orbital - Halcyon

I did ~2:30 at start, but in few weeks went up to 4:30 in dry static by following your tips in your videos. This was 2 years ago. Now I do regularly more than 5 minutes in water. :)

Nothing special about that. I take 2-3 deep breaths with slow exhalations before the breath hold. Key to 5 minutes is purely in CO2 tolerance and relaxation, which you can train.

Arent you afraid of blacking out under water for the 5 minute hold? I.ve been hearing more and more of this lately 😩 :(

Third attempt using this technique in dry: 3:31. I have been training freediving about 3 months in a pool. Before today, the best result in wet static in a pool was 3:15. Today's result really surprising me... Thank you.

This method is incredible! I tried to hold my breath many times I could reach about 2 minutes. But doing this according your suggestion I've reached 3 minutes at first attempt! Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm double happy as I've got asthma, so 3 minutes is a really good score for me.

Thanks mate - Great videos!! I'm just getting into freediving and signed up for an intro class that I'll be taking on an upcoming trip to Bonaire. After watching your video my first try got me 1:35 (sitting in a chair) - After the fourth attempt (with breathups) I got 3:15! You have a new subscriber!! Cheers and kindest regards from the USA!

Hey Cyberris - thanks so much feedback. Keep trying man, I know you should be able to get 3:30 or even 4 minutes with a week or 2 of practice. Have a look through my videos on youtube - there is a new video on some smart phone apps for training. New videos are added all the time, a mix of tips and tricks as well as some diving - so subscribe if you wanna see more in the future!

Thank you so much. This really worked. I just did 2:15 fairly easy. I have held my breath before but almost every time around 1:15 mark, sometimes earlier, I would start losing my motivation and give up because it seemed it was impossible for me to continue. I'd like to add that maybe the cause was partially fear that I might be more prone to blacking out. I have Diabetes Type 1 and I am insulin dependant and since I haven't had a chance to meet any freedivers with the same condition, it is really hard to find any valid information if people with diabetes are more likely to BO or experience BOs earlier. So I have no other option but really experience with my own body and try to see what feels comfortable and right.I didnt have any motivation problems on this try and it seemed incredibly easy until 1:45 and I was still able to push through until 2:15!!! Yay!!! I will keep doing everything exactly as described in your videos and can't wait to see if I can improve my breath hold even more. Also important to add is that I am new to freediving and have only done one Basic Freedivng course, several open water dives but no dives deeper than 10m. I am however getting ready for AIDA 2 Star Freediver course and all your videos have helped me immensely. Keep up the good work. You are a great freediver but also a very good youtube freediving instructor. :-)

Thank you for the video! My husband and his brother have been scuba diving and I'm intimidated by all the equipment, this (free diving) feels much more natural. I take suggestion VERY well. You have provided a suggestion so I will be able to put in action whatever you say, so I appreciate how you've not put limits (only suggested minimums) on how long one should start with and aim for. You are gifted. I see You.

I don't have any other youtube channel. Im worried if i put advanced topics here, beginners might try them and put themselves in danger. But If you have any topics of questions about diving you can ask me here, I might do a video on it if its safe for everyone to try. I'm also thinking to do a video with all the freediving questions I have received over the month.

You are amazing! I love snorkeling and did some scuba diving myself. I really got into free diving because it's inexpensive and more challenging than scuba diving (much like the way I enjoyed rock climbing over mountain climbing). I never thought I could hold my breath for 2 minutes until I saw your video! I will definitely send you videos of me doing 4 minutes underwater. SOON! Thanks! Come to Apo Island, Philippines!

Drew Harper 1 second ago So I went from a dry static of 1:45 to 3:40 within two days using your techniques. Ive realized that my largest obstacle is dealing with contractions and learning to stay calm through them and know that I can still hold my breath well past when the contractions become more rapid. Thanks for all the advise! My song is If It Means A Lot To You by A Day To Remember.

I came across your channel watching some videos of a spot I'm hitting this weekend, and I must say, thanks for posting! I just got my PADI Open Water, and haven't had the time/energy/money to pull scuba gear and find a buddy every weekend. I have been out snorkeling a few times in the last few weeks. With your videos tonight alone, I've hit 3:00 holding my breath on statics! I'll definitely take a class before I push myself to the limit, but I'll for sure play in the ocean a bit this weekend!

hunterboudreaux7, thanks for you comment. You cannot use this method to breath-up - I recommend you discontinue doing it. Using this method is the main way freedivers die, you have already mentioned your light headed feeling. My explanation why this is dangerous is in my "Breath up" video. There is only 1 way to breath-up - all freedivers from beginners to the most advanced use this method. Please do not try anything else. Anyway Good luck with freediving - let me know your progress

Well... for someone who could barely hold their breath under water for 20 seconds... Maybe less kicking and swimming around... I sure have noticed a huge improvement after these videos. Was able to stay under water in the pool for about a minute... my body doesn't feel like it needs to breath air or panic like it used to. Feel way more relaxed underwater following these tips. I just found these videos today, went out and tried it in the back yard in the pool and... I was pretty impressed with myself even if it was just a minute lol. Like I said, I struggled to do 20 seconds before.... Thanks =)

Keep going arcadetown - I think you need to focus more on your breath-up.. do your breathup for atleast 3 minutes. I assume the reason you are not going beyong 1:10 is because you are simply not relaxed - please go and find my "Freediving Breath up" video in my youtube channel. And subscribe man, im going to be doing more video's on breath hold early next year.

congratulations David. An increasing number of people are doing longer dry statics these days - I think its because people are practicing dry statics much more - so im not suprised. I will say this, my very first wet static on the very first day learned freediving was 4:20, no previous practice or training. I have still not beaten that on dry land.

Really helpfull. Years after setting my record @ ~3' on my own and then have stopped training and lost all my capacity, I've been able to reach 2' 44" and 3' 16" on my 1st and 2nd consecutive attempts. Try to fill your lungs as much as you can then take short breaths till 100% and hold for 5" repeat 4-5 times, then hiperventilate for 30-60" and then breath up for 1-2'. Relax, listen to the music (I use caribbean blue-Enya) and imagine you're diving. Worked great for me

Don't worry about others man. Just focus on yourself - i have found that very useful in freediving. if you are concerned about others - one of 2 things might happen - you get frustrated that others are better than you, and give upi. Or you beat the others and you get a big head. ((both have happened to me)). Your personal best is your target - its your body - its unique to you - focus on yourself. Good luck man - I know you will do well!

Thanks for your advice. I just started with freediving two months ago and could improve my breath hold in dry static from 1:16 to 5:32 so far. The imagination of a relaxed freedive and the music seems to help me a lot in relaxation, especially in comfort phase. If you like, take a look at my PB attempt which you can find on my channel. Btw, I feel that I can hold longer if I fill my lungs with 100%, not just 95%.

First attempt 2 min. Second attempt 3 mins. Both with a breath up of 3 mins like you showed. Going to try the third attempt method tomorrow and see how it goes. Though I'm hyped about this. Thanks for the tutorials.

Hey dude, been swimming heaps in my pool just doing as much as i can underwater. did a build up to my max attempt (still waiting on your video to see how i should prepare for a max wet static properly :) ) on 3rd attempt i didn't bother doing a proper breathe up because i was short on time. So i was relaxed and found myself counting dots on the bottom of the pool, when i finally realised i had counted to quite a high number i looked at my stopwatch 4:08. couldn't believe it. Absolutely stoked!

Really awesome advice! I am just getting into free diving but have been spear fishing for years but my breath hold has always let me down. My max was 1:30 before this video and on the first go after the video I got 2:33. Still a lot of training to do but this was a great help!
